Avatar m tn My dog has had giardia. My vet doesn't believe in fenbendazole as a treatment for it. He says, based on some research that was being done at LSU when he was in vet school there, that fenbendazole for giardia just doesn't work. He uses metronidazole (Flagyl). We treated my dog with that, and she hasn't had a recurrence. The Merck Veterinary Manual states that "Metronidazole (25 mg/kg, PO, bid for 5-7 days) is ~65% effective in eliminating Giardia spp from infected dogs.
Avatar m tn Another thing that really concerned me was that just 6 days ago all my 4 dogs had their yearly vaccine/booster shots. She gave the 4-in-1 and rabbies vaccines at the same time along with the dewormer! I asked her about it and she said it was fine as long as the dog is healthy (very skeptical about this). (FYI: she's not our regular vet. Our trusted vet is actually her uncle, who is currently out of the country.
7219853 tn?1389289076 My 20mo old female pitbull mix has been dealing with some tummy issues for months now. It started off very random, but has now became a weekly, sometimes daily problem. Her primary symptoms are: gurgling bowels, diarrhea and vomiting, loss of appetite. I have switched her food a few times, with no help, and she's now on a sensitive stomach grain free formula. Her vomit is usually clear or foamy, with grass if she's eaten some, and on two occasions, had fresh blood in it.

187316 tn?1386356682 Macrobid I was told wasn't good in the first trimester. Though I'm not sure how any of them could really be considered "good". Metronidazole pretty much kills all negative cells in your body. It's so harsh that it kills the good and bad bacteria in your whoha. I'm just so concerned that it will have messed something up. I still can't even get over the fact I'm pregnant.
1472764 tn?1287588186 Has anyone ever used oral metronidazole for a vaginal bacterial infection? I'm on my 5th of 7th day and have developed a very thick clear to cloudy mucousy discharge. Is this normal. I know the gel form will pull everything out in a thick white chunky discharge but does the oral pill.
Avatar n tn perhaps i can go to my doctor after 2 to 3 mos because still dont have a job right now/.. in case you didnt know, i live in the philippines.. here, people are always having a hard time looking for a job.. anyway ill keep you posted.. i still have a yellow discharge and i do frequent urination esp during the night.. can i ask u what fruits and veggies do i have to eat to lessen or to prevent this sickness from being severe.. thank u so much doctor..
Avatar f tn Metronidazole can cause diarrhea as a side effect. But it may be also working on the infective cause of your dog's illness in the first place, so don't stop it without speaking to your vet. Meanwhile keep your dog hydrated. If you can find an unflavoured electrolyte drink like Pedialyte that would be great. Plain water would do for a short time but Pedialyte would be better.
Avatar n tn For the past ten days I have been taking Metronidazole (Two 250mg oral tablets, twice daily). I took my last pills lastnight around 10:30 pm. My question is, would it be okay for me to consume alcohol on Saturday night? I know my pharmacist told me to absolutely stay away from alcohol while I was taking the pills because I would vomit alot, and he said most people wait a couple of days after they've finished before they drink. Im just wondering if two days is enough time?
Avatar f tn I was prescribed it last week for a bacterial infection. Took it 4 times and my face started to break out in a rash. Called the pharmacist and then the doctor. Both said i was having an allergic reaction to the medicine. Both said to stop taking it. I go to the doctor next week to ddiscuss other options. So just watch out for that.....
Avatar m tn My heart beat is erratic most of the time anyway but when I tried taking flagyl for campylobacter, it didn't affect my heart at all. I just got extremely sick and intestinal issues worsened. They had to switch me.
Avatar n tn Anyways .. My doctor prescribed me metronidazole 4 pills 500 mg each to take all at once.. So me and him ate and then took them this morning/afternoon around mabey 130 or 2 pm.. Well I have been feeling real nauseous and having diharea.. Long story short I three up what looked like everything I've ate today.. Does this mean the meds won't work or did they have enough time to disolve and work its way into my system whenre throwing up wouldn't matter?

Avatar m tn In our clinic, given your recurrent symptoms, you would have been treated with the alternate medication recommended for chlamydial infection (doxycycline) plus metronidazole, not just metronidazole alone because of the (unproven) possibility that you might have failed your recent treatment. Several additional thoughts arise however. First, your testing sounds unusual.
Avatar n tn The doctors at hospital did cbc work up. Lyme was positive, however, we live in tick area where most dogs test positive so they weren't sure if she had Lyme disease or not OR if joint stiffness was rare reaction to metronidazole antibiotic. They took her off "m" antibiotic and are treating her for Lyme & giving pain pills too. This was last night. This morning she woke up. She couldn't even sit up. I had to carry her down steps and outside. She hobbled to couch.
