Metronidazole for yeast infection

Common Questions and Answers about Metronidazole for yeast infection

Avatar f tn I visited the doctor Monday with a vaginal infection and was given Metronidazole to start taking. I went back for results Wednesday and I was confirmed to have BV. My doctor then gave me Erythromycin to take (2, twice a day)... as well as the Metronidazole (3, three times a day). This seems like an awful lot of antibiotics. Why was I given Erythromycin, when from as far as I can tell, Metronidazole alone is the recommended treatment for BV? Hope someone can shed some light on this. Thanks!
Avatar n tn My doctor prescribed me metronidazole because of my yeast infection but I'm really "iffy" about taking it because I don't want to harm my baby. Have any of u guys taken metronidazole while pregnant ?
Avatar m tn My question is, I think I have a yeast infection after taking metronidazole to treat BV. Is it safe for me to take Monistat without a doctor's diagnosis of a yeast infection? A bit more detail if needed - doctor told me I had BV and prescribed the Metronidazole gel for 5 days. I finished using the gel on Sunday Oct 2. My symptoms seemed to be going away. However, starting yesterday morning, I have been experiencing some itching as well as thick, cottage-cheese like discharge.
Avatar n tn My Dr has treated me with Metronidazole- brand name used was flagyl Nylstatin for yeast, clamycin, spandnox (for yeast), and recently had some relief with Augmentin(which was prescribed for a chest infection). When i was on augmentin all the above symptoms went away however came back 1 or 2 days after i came off the anti biotic.

Avatar f tn the brownish/or blood discharge went away, but now I'm not sure if I have a yeast infection or if it is still the bv? there seems to be alot of discharge still its not brownish or blood anymore it's yellowish-clear but it itches down there. My period is late and it is NEVER late. I have always had regular on time periods, never late or early, never spotting except 4 when I had something wrong. Doesn't the BV medicine can cause yeast infections right?
Avatar f tn I'm 38 weeks and I've had a yeast infection for awhile. They gave me a 7 day cream 2 weeks ago. That didn't get rid of it. A week ago at my last appointment they gave me 2 pills. I took 1 and then I took the other 3 days later (like it said to do) but I'm 99% sure I still have a yeast infection. I see my Dr again tomorrow. Has anyone else had an infection that wouldn't go away?
Avatar m tn can you two share a genital yeast infection? You can .

Avatar f tn m only 7w4d and when I saw my ob last week she cultured me and told me today that I have a bacterial and yeast infection. Typically I can tell, this time I had no idea. She has me on metronidazole tablets for the bv, and gyne-lotrimin for the yi. I've always done monistat in the past, I don't know why she changed it this time...
1308690 tn?1273696411 As for the yeast infection they have a pill called Flagyl its extermely potent and will kill the yeast infection. The monostat in my opinion don't help too much. Also my Dr told me its not recommended to have sex during BV and yeast infection . IT can be transmitted to your male partner if you use a condom and it breaks.
Avatar f tn Hi there does a yeast and a bacterial infection happen a lot to pregnant women.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had to take metronidazole twice ? Cause the infection didn't clear up the first time ?
1054108 tn?1314298660 My OB has prescribed me fluconazole 150 mg (one tablet only) for yeast infection and metronidazole 500 mg (to take for seven days) to treat bacterial vagnosis infection. She said it is safe however I am still hesitating. Please I need your advices.
Avatar f tn Sounds like a yeast infection. Was it antibiotics that you were on? I never got yeast infections until i got pregnant and took antibiotics.
Avatar m tn Has anyone cured this red meatus problem yet? I'm really desperate. Been having this red meatus lips (especially after masturbation) for 1.5 years now. All tests negative (tested urine twice; even once after a prostate massage; put a swab in my glans and brought it to the hospital... ALL negative.)Tried Azitromycin, itraconazole with miconazole, daktarin, ... Nothing seems te help. Has anyone tried metronidazole combined with miconazole cream? Thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn The Bactrim worked great and my face has cleared up amazingly, but, about two weeks ago, I started having symptoms of what I thought was a vaginal yeast infection. I have never had a yeast infection before, but I understand they are common with antibiotics. My primary symptoms were a burning irritation of the vagina and increased frequency of urination. I called my dermatologist and he prescribed 150mg Fluconizole. I took it later that morning.
1420263 tn?1282352796 If you have had a yeast infection for 2 months, go to the doctor, because obviously you have a more serious yeast infection that needs different medicine, or it could be a yeast infection that reached your bladder, which is not good. You won't die, and I know you won't want to go, but do it because you could have a bladder infection as well, and those can go to the kidneys which is very dangerous.
385161 tn?1270081218 One week later I had my last visit with the fertility specialist (yep my babies were concieved via invitro) Ok so the doctor took some cultures and said its not bacterial vaginosis, its a common yeast infection (he prescribed monastat) so I took the monastat for 3 days as directed and still had the discharge (yellowish, brownish, slight odor and yuck) anyways went back to the regular doctor who says no way you had a yeast infection, it was BV.
Avatar f tn She tested me for BV, Trich, Claymidia, and Gonoreaha. She said she saw the Yeast Infection, but said there was another Infection. All the Test came back Negative, she put me on Cipro before she knew the Results. Today Was my Last day on The Cipro and I woke up to the same green/yellow discharge I have been having. I told her and she prescribed Flagyl 3x a day for 7 days @ 500mg a dose. My Questions are: Could it really be Trich even though she said she didn't see it on the Microscope?
Avatar m tn So here's the deal, I have had a yeast infection for about 2 years. i have been given Gynazole (sp), miconazole, metronidazole, flagyl, fluconazole, and have also tried tioconazole, to no avail. So I stopped going to doctors for it. But now I want to get an IUD, and I am wondering if the IUD can be inserted during the presence of a yeast infection? I know certain infections are contraindications, but are yeast infections? I don't think they can spread to the cervix/uterus.
Avatar n tn OMG!!!! I've been reading post after post, and I think you just answered my question!! I'm sensitive to antibiotics, etc. and got a yeast infection.... I've been through this before, but after getting rid of the yeast infection without using and sepositories (monistat, etc) by using vagisil, and azo yeast pills, , I started noticing an odor along with thick lumpy discharge!
Avatar f tn What type of anitbiotic is good for a bacterial vaginal infection? I have had greenish discharge and recurrent yeast infections for about 9 mos.
Avatar f tn For the bv, doctor prescribed metronidazole gel and for the yeast infection, he prescribed terconazole cream
37251 tn?1236526586 It could still be thrush. Have that checked at least. Or it could be bacterial vaginosis (BV). It's not an STD but rather an imbalance in the naturally occurring bacterial flora. It's not thrush (fungal/yeast infection). Treatment for BV requires an antibiotic (normally something like metronidazole).
