Avatar m tn Welcome back to the forum. However, you are asking a question that really should have been directed to the doctor who is treating you. It seems likely you caught nongonococcal urethritis (NGU) or perhaps gonorrhea fromt he oral sex event. Your doctor has correctly treated you for both of these -- cefixime against gonorrhea, docycycline against NGU (using American spellings).
Avatar m tn When you failed treatment, did you have a positive test for chlamydia and how long following treatment was it? Studies have shown that the debris from dead chlamydia can remain present for up to 3 weeks, causing falsely positive tests. I ask to try to determine if you clearly failed treatment or whether something else might be going on. 2. Having taken both azithromycin and doxycycline, there are no STDs that ciprofloxacin would be reliably expected to take care of.
Avatar m tn The treatment you received would be good for a bladder infection but not for the STDs most likely to be present, nongonococcal urethritis (NGU) or chlamydia. If your symptoms are still present, I would suggest you request a swab test to look for white blood cells (this would indicate NGU) and a test for gonorrhea and chlamydia. If any of these are present, the treatment is pretty straightforward and highly effective.
Avatar m tn I think that with no improvement at all following treatment combined with the fact that your symptoms are not suggestive of classical prostatitis (and, I presume are not similar to your prior prostatitis symptoms) you need to either have an in-depth discussion with your doctor or get a second opinion. It is time for more tests and/or a different stratgy. While a dose of metronidazole is worth a try, presuming that it does not help, I think you need further evaluation.
Avatar m tn Now that I have started metronidazole should I just stop on the 4th day, and wait for the new doxycycline plus metronidazole regime? That is, will taking another 3 days of it without the doxycycline make me build up a resistance to it or should I stay the course and see if another 3 days helps. I'm concerned about the testing I'm receiving (and confusing results) and it perhaps has alot to do with communicating with non-native English speakers( us not understanding each other).
Avatar m tn after 2 weeks, i just thought that i have some symptoms for a STD. so i went to the doctor, test the specimen and positive in cocobacilli virus and had a few epithelial cells in the result. my dr told me that i have a gonorrhea. as a treatment, he gave me some antibiotics and had it one time intake; 2 capsules of 200 mg Tergecef(CEFIXIME) and 2 tablets of 500mg Zithromax(AZITHROMYCIN Dihydrate).
Avatar f tn Metronidazole is typically used to treat vaginosis, specifically BV and trich. It's also used to treat other gram negative rods. But in terms of STD treatment, it's really not used for anything except trich, which could cause the itchiness you're talking about, but it also is accompanied by discharge. So to answer you question, Metro should not have caused any false negatives, unless it was Trich and even then they could probably see dead cells in a scope.
Avatar n tn Thank you! But one more query: I went and saw sexual clinit today, they took my blood, sperm, and urine samples and asked me to wait for a while. In next 10 minutes they were up with result that I have NSU. I learnt what NSU is on internet. But, I am not satisfied with the medicine they have provided, this is what I got from them: 1. Doxycycline 2.
Avatar f tn actually you should've had 8 pills to take - for a total of 2 grams of medication. give the clinic a call and ask them to please check the pdr and call you in the right dose if that is all you were given. remember no alcohol at all for a few days either!
Avatar n tn For the past ten days I have been taking Metronidazole (Two 250mg oral tablets, twice daily). I took my last pills lastnight around 10:30 pm. My question is, would it be okay for me to consume alcohol on Saturday night? I know my pharmacist told me to absolutely stay away from alcohol while I was taking the pills because I would vomit alot, and he said most people wait a couple of days after they've finished before they drink. Im just wondering if two days is enough time?
Avatar n tn Mid December my wife started experiencing itching again and went back to the GP who prescribe Difflucan for both of us + Metronidazole 250mg three days for my wife. All went fine. Mid January 2008 we both started having same symptoms and this time the GP prescribed Metronidazole to both of us 500mg per day for 10 days. During the course of the treatment I experienced tenderness in my testicles and some night sweats, dry mouth but no fever.
Avatar f tn Treatment is by antibiotics and you can use metronidazole gel or clindamycin cream for local application on vagina. They have fewer side effects. But inform your gynecologist before talking them. I hope it helps. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar m tn Hi, are you saying that your wife has been taking metronidazole? It is commonly used for an infection known as gardnerella or BV (bacterial vaginosis), which can cause the vagina to get a bad smell and is very irritating to the woman.
Avatar m tn It is rare for any STD to continue for more than a year after acquisition, other than the obvious ones like herpes, HPV, syphilis, HIV, none of which is consistent with the symptoms you describe. Your specific symptoms: Most are not consistent with any STD. The only exception is the more recent urethral discharge, etc. However, this could easily be due to prostate gland problems, which are common at your age.
Avatar n tn I believe typically in the UK treatment is a single, large dose of metronidazole but this appears to be for more "superficial" infections. Thanks.
Avatar f tn I always recommend waiting a full week after finishing treatment with metronidazole before being tested for yeast so you can get properly tested and not diagnosed based on the discharge. it's very easy to test for bv. if you are being accurately tested for bv and are told you don't have it, no reason to think that you do. if they are just visually looking at you and saying no bv, whole different story.
Avatar f tn I have not engaged in any high risk sexual behavior, and the only issue I have previously experienced in this region is a nasty yeast infection. Would it be advisable to pay out of pocket for a full panel STD test(last one was a year ago in the US), or should another course of medication be tried first?
Avatar f tn Treatment There is no over-the-counter treatment available. There are two treatment options with metronidazole (Flagyl) - an oral antibiotic or a topical antibiotic cream. Metronidazole can cause nausea and darkening of urine. Alcohol consumption should be avoided while on this medication, and for 48 hours after treatment, due to possible alcohol intolerance, which can result in nausea and vomiting. If you are using the vaginal antibiotic preparation, it must be used daily.
Avatar f tn i was given doxycycline and more metronidazole and finished these about three weeks ago. the tests results for stds and candida all came back negative, but the sympoms are still present. i am going back to the gum the next time i can get away from work, but no one has been able to tell me what kind of infection this is or what kind of treatment will work. i would think it was only bv but the doctor said that it was an infection of some kind.
Avatar m tn Well after still had same symptoms so put in for another treatment this time metronidazole and doxycycline hyclate. Had a pee test and came back negative after first treatment that was mind blowing cause i still had all symptoms. So getting another test tomorrow but definitely worried because gonereah and clap are easy to fix and here it is after two treatments I'm still having problems.
Avatar m tn What would be a possible course of treatment for the Metronidazole-resistant Trich? I read, that perhaps Tinidazole would be the next choice of drug? If yes, what dosage should be effective? Question 5: I tried to comb through the net to find anything about after how much time the symptoms of Trich should start disappearing when treated with drugs? (Non of the countless sites mention that at all). Thank you very much in advance for your help.
Avatar f tn If it had failed, the re-treatment with ceftriaxone plus doxycycline 100 mg twice daily, plus a single 2000 mg treatment with metronidazole is the recommended therapy for refractory urethritis. Given how unusual your situation is, I find myself wondering if something other than an STD could be going on. did any of the therapies you have taken make any difference in your symptoms? Once I hear a bit more detail form you , I suspect I will have further comments.
Avatar m tn Of nonchlamydial NGU cases, up to 20% recur after routine antibiotic treatment -- so that aspect also is quite common. The CDC recommendations for treatment, which I endorse, are that recurrent cases should be treated with a change in antibiotics. In particular, when the problem recurs after azithromycin, doxycycline should be used; and ideally metronidazole as well, to cover the possibility of trichomonas. (Trich is unlikely in gay men -- primarily a heterosexual problem.
Avatar n tn at first i didnt bother it but after my medication in soar throat and allergy(urcatitaria), my vagina started to became itchy and again, everyday i started having green discharged for `1 week. i went to a gynecologist and she prescribed me a metronidazole miconazole vaginal suppository and ive used that for `1 week.. now what my problem is, my white discharge had stop.. i am also currently taking up medice for my UTI and had experiexed sex but that was like long time ago...
Avatar m tn I am not sure if they manually examined his prostate or not but after each sexual encounter with me his symptoms reappear. His original testing came up negative. As did mine. I was beginning to wonder if I may have ureaplasma urealyticum or something like that. If he touched me and then himself, couldn't that cause him to have symptoms even if we did use a condom? His symptoms both times were painful urination and clear dishcharge.
