Avatar n tn For the past ten days I have been taking Metronidazole (Two 250mg oral tablets, twice daily). I took my last pills lastnight around 10:30 pm. My question is, would it be okay for me to consume alcohol on Saturday night? I know my pharmacist told me to absolutely stay away from alcohol while I was taking the pills because I would vomit alot, and he said most people wait a couple of days after they've finished before they drink. Im just wondering if two days is enough time?
Avatar m tn Welcome back to the forum. However, you are asking a question that really should have been directed to the doctor who is treating you. It seems likely you caught nongonococcal urethritis (NGU) or perhaps gonorrhea fromt he oral sex event. Your doctor has correctly treated you for both of these -- cefixime against gonorrhea, docycycline against NGU (using American spellings).
Avatar f tn i was checked 4 the stds like i had said be4 not too long before i started the flagyl. the one std i havent been checked for in a long time since my last pap is HPV, DO you think it is that does that cause brown discharge?? I am really starting to freak out now, because my periods are always normal and regular and never miss one. and i really am scared its an std or cancer or something horrible. Thanks!!!
Avatar m tn I've had Trich std for 6 years, I was given medications from health care providers twice but I still have the symptoms, discharge, urine smells bad and I even had blood in my urine once. I have only tested positive 6 years ago, when my ex wife gave it to me. After that one time, I never tested positive although I have the symptoms. What is the long term effects and what can I do to finally get rid of this std? Will a penicillin shot get rid of it?
Avatar m tn after 2 weeks, i just thought that i have some symptoms for a STD. so i went to the doctor, test the specimen and positive in cocobacilli virus and had a few epithelial cells in the result. my dr told me that i have a gonorrhea. as a treatment, he gave me some antibiotics and had it one time intake; 2 capsules of 200 mg Tergecef(CEFIXIME) and 2 tablets of 500mg Zithromax(AZITHROMYCIN Dihydrate).
Avatar f tn If the STD came back would mean it would have not been treated effectivly which means those original symptoms would have also come back. This is not an issue with Trich.
Avatar f tn I also had a question for you. How long will you be taking the Metronidazole and what tests did your doctor run in diagnosing you with BV? The reason I ask is because I have symptoms very similar to BV however every Dr. I go to suggest that I don't have it.
Avatar m tn Now that I have started metronidazole should I just stop on the 4th day, and wait for the new doxycycline plus metronidazole regime? That is, will taking another 3 days of it without the doxycycline make me build up a resistance to it or should I stay the course and see if another 3 days helps. I'm concerned about the testing I'm receiving (and confusing results) and it perhaps has alot to do with communicating with non-native English speakers( us not understanding each other).
Avatar m tn First of all, thank your partner for telling you. Unfortunately, some do not. If she had trich. metronidazole is highly effective. As for your continued discomfort, treatment without an examination is not such a good thing. The treatment you received would be good for a bladder infection but not for the STDs most likely to be present, nongonococcal urethritis (NGU) or chlamydia.
Avatar m tn I think that with no improvement at all following treatment combined with the fact that your symptoms are not suggestive of classical prostatitis (and, I presume are not similar to your prior prostatitis symptoms) you need to either have an in-depth discussion with your doctor or get a second opinion. It is time for more tests and/or a different stratgy. While a dose of metronidazole is worth a try, presuming that it does not help, I think you need further evaluation.
Avatar f tn I was recently diagnosed with trich and was prescribed by a nurse 500 mg 2 times a day for 5 days of metronidazole. I'm really cautious and worried about taking it because i searched and this pill has a lot of bad side effects, like making you really sick. It says that there is an alternative pill called azithromycin with less side effects. I talked to my OB about that and she said that she hasn't prescribed that to anyone who has trich.
Avatar f tn Hi only testing would confirm an std.
Avatar f tn Treatment is by antibiotics and you can use metronidazole gel or clindamycin cream for local application on vagina. They have fewer side effects. But inform your gynecologist before talking them. I hope it helps. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar f tn My antibiotics are docycline and metronidazole. Can i take probiotics with them?
Avatar n tn Mid December my wife started experiencing itching again and went back to the GP who prescribe Difflucan for both of us + Metronidazole 250mg three days for my wife. All went fine. Mid January 2008 we both started having same symptoms and this time the GP prescribed Metronidazole to both of us 500mg per day for 10 days. During the course of the treatment I experienced tenderness in my testicles and some night sweats, dry mouth but no fever.
Avatar f tn I visited the doctor Monday with a vaginal infection and was given Metronidazole to start taking. I went back for results Wednesday and I was confirmed to have BV. My doctor then gave me Erythromycin to take (2, twice a day)... as well as the Metronidazole (3, three times a day). This seems like an awful lot of antibiotics. Why was I given Erythromycin, when from as far as I can tell, Metronidazole alone is the recommended treatment for BV? Hope someone can shed some light on this. Thanks!
Avatar m tn But im not sure it was only that, becouse i had itchy urinating, red spots on penis and a white liquid. And now im understanding that i get Metronidazole for nothing becouse i thought i had only Gardnerella. And for this thing i get treated 2 times becouse i thought it was not cured very well.. And these final days when i finish the second treatment with metronidazole ( for nothing i think ) after 2 days i drinked beer and i had this things...
Avatar n tn Can only rule out trich with a test. It can be difficult to test in men. But are you still having all those symptoms?
Avatar f tn I was given metronidazole for the second time (same dosage). Its been just recently when I went to visit the same doct. And. He tested me again due to my persistent symptoms. Agan negative results of culture and this time I was given tinidazole 2 g one dose. The man I had intercourse with said he was tested for chlam and gonorrhea with negative results but was never tested for trich because he says he is symptoms free.
Avatar f tn i was given doxycycline and more metronidazole and finished these about three weeks ago. the tests results for stds and candida all came back negative, but the sympoms are still present. i am going back to the gum the next time i can get away from work, but no one has been able to tell me what kind of infection this is or what kind of treatment will work. i would think it was only bv but the doctor said that it was an infection of some kind.
Avatar n tn She used the Metronidale gel for 5 days and her symptoms disappeared. I took Metronidazole 500 mg PO q12h x 7 days. I thought I started to feel better toward the 6th day, but still with some urge to urinate and discomfort. Then, about 3-4 days later, my discomfort was even worse then before. The urge to urinate was constant, discomfort in the urethra, and I felt as if my perineum hurt (swollen Prostate?), & scrotum burning. The clinic prescribed Tinidazole 2g for 5 days as a follow-up.
Avatar m tn Hi, are you saying that your wife has been taking metronidazole? It is commonly used for an infection known as gardnerella or BV (bacterial vaginosis), which can cause the vagina to get a bad smell and is very irritating to the woman.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with ngu took the medicine and mygirgirlfriend took the meds also. We waited over a week like the Dr said to have sex. Well again the pain and discharge are back so I went to see the Dr again. He gave me a shot and more meds for me and my girlfriend. We have been using protection condoms after that and waited 10 days before having sex. Now the pain and discharge is back again. She went to the clinic and came up negative for ngu but came up positive for bacterial vaginosis.
