Yes, new research confirmed that bacterial vaginosis can give false positives for low-risk women who are tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia by NAAT (the urine test). It is recommended that those who are given the diagnosis of bacterial vaginosis and are then told they also have Chlamydia and Gonorrhea when they are low-risk (ie. have (-) partner and are in a monogamous relationship) should request a culture test.
In the US, I was treated witn Metronidazole 500 mg 2 x day for 7 days (I did not have any tests done), which supposedly is the drug for trichomoniasis, and that this drug did not do anytning to improve the condition; the symptoms are still present. The only difference in symptoms I am observing is sometimes clear discharge, more ofthen though, yellow, thick discharge, which is most observable in the morning, before the urination. Also, there is no odor of any kind.
So 10 days ago I cam back from Mexico on vacation two days later I started to have dysuria (painful urination). I went in to my PCP and he checked for all STD's and gave me Cipro. After 5 days it wasn't helping and the tests gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, HIV and others were all negative. I came back in and was tested Trichomoniasis gonorrhea, and chlamydia while being prescribed metronidazole and azithromycin as prophylactic.

I have had tests for Chlamydia, and Gonorrhea -which came back negative. I have no signs of herpes and was tested for that as well. My only symptom I've had is a mild discomfort at the tip of my penis. Buring during urination is very slight, not much to speak of. I recently masturbated just to see if there would be any pain - there wasn't. However, when I ejaculated, it first came out as very watery, followed by thicker semen that was yellowish in color.
Your doctor has correctly treated you for both of these -- cefixime against gonorrhea, docycycline against NGU (using American spellings). The metronidazole probably was not necessary; it is intended to treat trichomonas, but that infection is not likely from oral sex. However, it won't do any harm, and your doctor was probably just being careful.
Your doctor correctly told you how to take the drugs. The large single doses of cefixime and metronidazole are normal.
hi i went to a gyno to get tested for std and my result is positive for ghonorhea and she also said ghono comes along with chlamydia and also tested for positive trichomonas too so she gave me 1 single does of cefixime 400mg for ghono and azythromicyn 1000mg single dose also for chlamydia and metronidazole 500mg 2x daily for 10 days my symtoms seems to go away after 2 days so i am happy now i hope wont come back my partner also took same med even though his negative in all std test.
Usually, if they test you for gonorrhea, you are tested for chlamydia as well because it is not uncommon to have both at the same time. But doxycycline does not treat gonorrhea nor BV. That it is treatment for chlamydia.
Did you go to a gynecologist or a general practioner? I find it odd that you weren't prescribed flagyl or metronidazole for the BV. You need to ask your doctor some questions so you can get a better understanding of what happened.
The man I had intercourse with said he was tested for chlam and gonorrhea with negative results but was never tested for trich because he says he is symptoms free. I guess my question is, what are the chances of the culture to be false negative 5 times? Is it still possible that I don't have it and that is why I not only test negative but also am not getting better with the meds prescribed because of it not being trich? I'm going crazy and so depressed. Doctor please help !!!!!
m taking metronidazole 500mg for the BV for 7 days. I took the azithromycin on the evening of the 16th. I have to mention that today the discharge is almost nonexistant, whereas before it was obscene. My partner lives in another state, as soon as I received my results I told him to seek treatment.
I have another question. I missed my period which is very, very unusual. Could a missed period be due to the gonorrhea infection? My period is always early or right on time.
I was diagnosed with ngu took the medicine and mygirgirlfriend took the meds also. We waited over a week like the Dr said to have sex. Well again the pain and discharge are back so I went to see the Dr again. He gave me a shot and more meds for me and my girlfriend. We have been using protection condoms after that and waited 10 days before having sex. Now the pain and discharge is back again. She went to the clinic and came up negative for ngu but came up positive for bacterial vaginosis.
I also had a question for you. How long will you be taking the Metronidazole and what tests did your doctor run in diagnosing you with BV? The reason I ask is because I have symptoms very similar to BV however every Dr. I go to suggest that I don't have it.
I think that with no improvement at all following treatment combined with the fact that your symptoms are not suggestive of classical prostatitis (and, I presume are not similar to your prior prostatitis symptoms) you need to either have an in-depth discussion with your doctor or get a second opinion. It is time for more tests and/or a different stratgy. While a dose of metronidazole is worth a try, presuming that it does not help, I think you need further evaluation.
If you are currently taking doxycycline hyclate 100mg twice a day 2 weeks, fluconazole 200mg once a day for one week, metronidazole 500mg twice a day, will these medications treat anal oral and genital gonorrhea? Or are there different meds for each one?
I ask because my wbc has been 0-2, 2-4, 4-6 over the course of 4-5 months, wondering if you would expect it to be much higher if Chlamydia or Gonorrhea were the cause. I had Chlamydia and Gonorrhea tests but not sure if they were in the right time frame after courses of antibiotics.
and they prescribe me with two medicine one is levoflaxcin (lexzin) 750mg need to take 1pill for 10days and the other one is metronidazole (flagex) 500mg need to take 4pills/day for 5days... getting paranoid here if my std is worst or which stage is it? should i get a test after taking the medicine? and which test should i take...
Same negative result for all the above mentioned
Doctor has prescribed various antibiotics for the symptoms, including doxy, metronidazole, azithromycin. But all does not relieve the symptoms I mentioned above.
On 14/Sep, i did a culture test (urathral swab) and found klebsiella Spp. No gonorrhea found. Doctor gave me cefuraxime 1g to be taken everyday for 10 days. Sadly, no improvement at all after 10 days.
