Avatar f tn Metronidazole can cause diarrhea as a side effect. But it may be also working on the infective cause of your dog's illness in the first place, so don't stop it without speaking to your vet. Meanwhile keep your dog hydrated. If you can find an unflavoured electrolyte drink like Pedialyte that would be great. Plain water would do for a short time but Pedialyte would be better.
Avatar n tn My dog was throwing up (looked like human food- I hve no idea where he got it from) and having diarrhea. The vet gave him amforol among penicillin and steroid injection. We took x-rays and the vet said he had imflammatory bowel disease. Since then he's stopped vomitting but still having diarrhea. Now he's on metronidazole. I've read around that metro will help only temporary and that it could cause liver damage. Has anyone had this problem and will metronidazole fix his problem?
Avatar n tn He also started the temp spike, lethargy, off food and bloody diarrhea - but when put on Metronidazole would clear up for about a month or so. I brought the 2 kittens in the house after the mom died. We then found a 4 week old kitten about 4 months later. He was kept in the barn. Doing great. But we decided to keep him and brought him into the house. Had him wormed with drontal etc. Well this new kitten started showing the bloody diarrhea, temp & lethargy.
Avatar m tn t eat. Doctor gave me Metronidazole 2 years ago for a tummy bout. Does anyone know if there are any contraindications between those 2 meds?
Avatar n tn Hello Athena, I would advise you to take the kitten to a vet. If she's been having diarrhea for three days so will be dehydrated and may need to be on an IV. I'm not sure, but the vet will be able to advise you. You may have given her too much metronidazole . 500 mg per day sounds like a lot for a kitten's tiny body. This is not a professional medical opinion, but I strongly urge you to go and seek a professional vet to help the kitten. Otherwise she may not survive.
7205189 tn?1447794738 This caused diarrhea and vomiting which the vet then prescribed metronidazole for. Immediately she began pooping twice a day with meals and it was normal. When the medication ended she went a few days normal, then slowly started increasing frequency of pooping and then started having diarrhea again. The vet immediately prescribed the Metronidazole again, this time just half a pill for a dose. She went back to normal immediately.
Avatar f tn I have taken the metronidazole for 2weeks and I notice it works but after 3 to 4 days I stop taking it since I notice it was cleared ..now It came back again and I now starting to take again a metronidazole.. please help what must I do?
Avatar n tn After my hospital stay, I was sent home with Clindamycin and Ampicillin capsules to take for 5 days. I had diarrhea for 4 days straight and called the Dr. She told me to stop taking the medicines immediately. About 4 days later, I was stricken with severe abdominal cramping, nausea and watery diarrhea. I was rushed to the emergency room and had CT scans, abdominal XRays, and stool samples taken. I was diagnosed with C. diff.

Avatar m tn Metronidazole is usually used to treat the disorder and for diarrhea electrolyte solution may be given. Consult a doctor for more queries and assistance. Keep me posted. Best luck and regards!
Avatar f tn most cats like the taste of this and it is very good fiber for them, fiber works well for bulking up the stools and helping with diarrhea, it also can work good for SOME types of constipation...but be careful when using for constipation b/c it can bulk up the stool so much it will be difficult to pass and lead to megacolon. but for now for her diarrhea use a tiny amount and mix it in her food, I don't know how much you are feeding her at one time?
Avatar f tn Ended up taking her to the vet this morning and her diagnosis was that shes an old dog with diarrhea. What a surprise. Vet said this time of the year she sees it a lot, maybe because the snow melts and the dog eats something she finds, she doesn't know why, her own dog even has it. She gave her Endosorb tablets for the diarrhea, and Metronidazole antibiotics,( I don't know why she gave that.
Avatar n tn talk to your doc for probiotic. its very effective dear.
Avatar f tn May 29 2015 we went for a full blood test as Louie ( my dog) was due for a dental. Blood test came back Saturday that he was perfect. He also had a blood panel taken so he can take his heart worm. This tested also tested for Lime disease which he did not have. That Saturday night he began acting weird. Very tired, I blamed it on the vet appointment stressing him out. He had diarrhea once but it had no mucus or blood. It was also not liquid.
Avatar f tn A month ago around April 10 I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend and 5 days later I started to feel sick he says he’s fine but I became very nauseous, dehydrated, depressed, lightheaded, diarrhea, extremely fatigue, had fever, couldn’t sleep, was weak, loss of appetite I was very thirsty though, stomach gurgles, gas I’ve also had oral thrush and neck pains.
Avatar m tn I had a total gastrectomy about 7 weeks ago due to a stomach cancer diagnosis. Subsequently I developed a C diff infection for which I took Metronidazole for 3 weeks. During the third week the doctor took the test 3 times and they were all negative. My diarrhea symptoms subsided considerably after 2 weeks of medication but they seem to have returned today although not very severely. I am concerned that I may have a relapse.
Avatar m tn I got Giardia (intestinal parasite) from river water and was prescribed first Cipro for "travelers diarrhea" and when that didn't work I was prescribed Metronidazole for Giardia. I took Cipro for 5 days then Metronidazole for 10. During the course of Metro I started having chest pain. I dismissed them because I was having muscle pains in virtually all my muscles off an on. I became more concerned after I began waking up with my chest vibrating like a cell phone!
Avatar m tn Hello! I took Bystolic 15 months ago for 1 week. It made me nauseas in 5 hours after first pill. At 14 hours after first pill the diarrhea started. Doctor insisted I stay on it. At 3 days I was so tired I didnot want to move, but had to, I had Diarrhea & Nauseasness. Constantly going to the bathroom for one reason or the other. Stopped after 1 week against my doctors orders. Nausea and tiredness is gone. I still have Diarrhea and it's been 15 months.
Avatar f tn I have had blood tests for celiacs, hormone tests for endocrine tumors, and a colonoscopy and endoscopy. All showed normal results. I have tried 3 different antibiotics (metronidazole, Xifaxan, and another that I can't remember), none of which worked. I have tried cholestyramine, i have tried eliminating dairy, and am now eating only rics, lentils, oats, and steamed vegetables. None of these have worked so far - diet seems to have no effect on my symptoms.
Avatar m tn She had parasites a few weeks ago. Was given medication to get rid of them. Also metronidazole for the diarrhea. It hasn't helped. She then started having seizures a week ago. Now on phenobarbital. Controlling the seizures. Still has Diarrhea. Vet prescribed metronidazole again. She is now shaking and not feeling well and still has diarrhea. She only weighs 2 lbs or so. She doesn't like Pumpkin. Tried that for the diarrhea. Taking her off the Metronidazole.
Avatar f tn my 3yr old daughter was just released from the hospital. she had diarrhea for 6 days straight. and im not talking a few times a day... totalling well over 250 times in the 6 days span. anyways, she tested positive for c diff. how did she get this and what exactly is it? her dr is not giving too much info and speaks in terminology that i cant understand. is it contagious?
Avatar m tn Have they ran any tests? Did they say what they are treating him for? Keep him hydrated with the diarrhea, and call your doctor and ask about this.
Avatar n tn thank you very much for this information. but nothing new for me, I knew already all this. I need to know if there is even more recent drugs or different ones than what I have already knew. i am a pharmacist.
Avatar n tn The forth day i began having severe diarrhea that continued for 3 weeks. I drank juice with active bacteria and the diarrhea stoped immediatelly. But it is 7 weeks i have abdominal cramps and alot of gas from the stomach. I have been to the doctor again. she gave me a medicine to reduce the gas, one talbet per day for one month. She said is Irritated bowel syndrome. I have never had any kind of problems with health, is it possible that this antibiotic has caused IBS?
