Avatar n tn The 2 cats do fine on the Metronidazole, but the symptoms can recur in 2 months time which has me baffled. I have not tested for wet FIP, but that had crossed my mind. I don't believe it to be a toxin due to the fact that the first time in showed in the first kitten they were living in my barn and the second kitten showed it when living in my house. We did look at a blood smear from the mother cat that died to see if there could be babesia or any foreign signs - clear.
72351 tn?1281992542 I would like to know what would be the best drug to treat oral infections in possible fiv possitive cats. I have tried Metronidazole without success, mostly because it is virtually impossible to give them tablets due to their mouths being so sore. I tried crushing the tablets and diluting with water to give orally but that is an even worse option lol! I heard it comes in liquid forms but my vet has not been able to locate it to purchase for me.
Avatar n tn what is the half life of oxycodone in cats? I've heard it works well for pain in cats. I'm trying to get more information on what may help my 12 year old cat. I'd like to have my questions in order before I pay my/her vet?
Avatar f tn I totally agree with Opus88's comments. You should not be dosing your kitty. Dosing should always be left to the vet who, after all, is an animal doctor.
Avatar f tn Many tests and procedures later and her vet diagnosed her with inflammatory bowel disease and put her on Metronidazole and prescribed cat foods with duck, rabbit and deer. Well, both of my cats reaction to the new food was to try to bury it. The Metronidazole made Pixel sick and she stopped eating and her weight fell to under six pounds and the vet then put her on steroids. During this time I bought brand after brand of cat food, hoping to get her to eat anything.
Avatar n tn I think you are doing your best and about all you can do. From my perspective, cats, despite OUR best intentions, don't have the understandiong as to why we even take them to the vets let alone put them through surgery, except for broken legs and open wound type of thing where they can see and feel the immediate relief.
Avatar m tn Trichomoniasis can usually be cured with prescription drugs, either metronidazole or tinidazole, given by mouth in a single dose. The symptoms of trichomoniasis in infected men may disappear within a few weeks without treatment. However, an infected man, even a man who has never had symptoms or whose symptoms have stopped, can continue to infect or re-infect a female partner until he has been treated. Above is the treatment recommendation by the CDC. I would suggest following up with your Dr.
Avatar f tn My cat had an abscess on his back - which I have enough experience with to treat myself. I have owned cats for 30 years. I have been able to clear and heal the wound and have been dosing him with amoxicillin. He seems to have an allergy to this antibiotic as I have discovered hes been throwing up in the basement. This is the usual drug I use to treat abscess-type infections and I want to make sure the interior infection clears up.
Avatar f tn I just had my two cats spayed and neutered, as well as rabies vaccine, on Tuesday, Luna and Max, 6-7 months old. When I brought them home, Max seemed to be great, he ate, and drank, and was doing fine. Luna I was worried about, I gave her tramadol, and she did fine. Then on Thursday night I gave it to Max, thinking he was in pain as he wasn't acting himself. He scratched me, and spit out the 1/4 of the 50 mg tablet, then he frothed from the mouth. I just decided not to try that again.
681148 tn?1437661591 //www.petplace.com/cats/metronidazole-flagyl-toxicity-in-cats/page1.aspx have you tried Slippery Elm Bark? this is a wonderful supplement for GI upsets it soothes the GI tract and reduces inflamation...and none of the serious side effects of the Metr. drug. also how about ginger and digestive enzymes???? these are all good for gastritis issues. what brand of grain free food do you feed her?
1442483 tn?1284210716 Later that afternoon we received prescriptions for Amoxicillin, Metronidazole, and Omeprazole. After the weekend the nurse phoned me the pathology results, but couldn't see any answer as to what the cause of his gastritis was. However it did state Moderately Acute Gastritis H. Pylori not detected. I already had scheduled an allergy test for Wed. He tested allergic to yeast (and carrots, but no worries there for sure!). At the initial consultation with the Dr.
Avatar f tn took the baby to the vet on saturday she put her & her mama(she has it also)on metronidazole suspension. vet told me that if they didnt improve by mon. to call back & try 2 get a stool sample. well its monday & there was no change so i took both cats in today and she put them on belladonna tablets. the stool sample came back ok. so now its a waiting game. thank you so much to everyone with comments they sure do help out alot.
187316 tn?1386356682 Macrobid I was told wasn't good in the first trimester. Though I'm not sure how any of them could really be considered "good". Metronidazole pretty much kills all negative cells in your body. It's so harsh that it kills the good and bad bacteria in your whoha. I'm just so concerned that it will have messed something up. I still can't even get over the fact I'm pregnant.
Avatar n tn yes it is very safe for rabbits as well as cats....I will look up all the dosing info for you within the hour...
Avatar f tn t just go giving any medication without even knowing what you are treating....prednisone use in cats often leads to diabetes. Please describe what's wrong and I will try and help with some suggestions, I know yr only trying to help them but inappropriate use of meds can be fatal...
1472764 tn?1287588186 Has anyone ever used oral metronidazole for a vaginal bacterial infection? I'm on my 5th of 7th day and have developed a very thick clear to cloudy mucousy discharge. Is this normal. I know the gel form will pull everything out in a thick white chunky discharge but does the oral pill.
Avatar n tn perhaps i can go to my doctor after 2 to 3 mos because still dont have a job right now/.. in case you didnt know, i live in the philippines.. here, people are always having a hard time looking for a job.. anyway ill keep you posted.. i still have a yellow discharge and i do frequent urination esp during the night.. can i ask u what fruits and veggies do i have to eat to lessen or to prevent this sickness from being severe.. thank u so much doctor..
Avatar f tn Metronidazole can cause diarrhea as a side effect. But it may be also working on the infective cause of your dog's illness in the first place, so don't stop it without speaking to your vet. Meanwhile keep your dog hydrated. If you can find an unflavoured electrolyte drink like Pedialyte that would be great. Plain water would do for a short time but Pedialyte would be better.
Avatar n tn For the past ten days I have been taking Metronidazole (Two 250mg oral tablets, twice daily). I took my last pills lastnight around 10:30 pm. My question is, would it be okay for me to consume alcohol on Saturday night? I know my pharmacist told me to absolutely stay away from alcohol while I was taking the pills because I would vomit alot, and he said most people wait a couple of days after they've finished before they drink. Im just wondering if two days is enough time?
Avatar f tn I was prescribed it last week for a bacterial infection. Took it 4 times and my face started to break out in a rash. Called the pharmacist and then the doctor. Both said i was having an allergic reaction to the medicine. Both said to stop taking it. I go to the doctor next week to ddiscuss other options. So just watch out for that.....
