Avatar n tn The 2 cats do fine on the Metronidazole, but the symptoms can recur in 2 months time which has me baffled. I have not tested for wet FIP, but that had crossed my mind. I don't believe it to be a toxin due to the fact that the first time in showed in the first kitten they were living in my barn and the second kitten showed it when living in my house. We did look at a blood smear from the mother cat that died to see if there could be babesia or any foreign signs - clear.
72351 tn?1281992542 I would like to know what would be the best drug to treat oral infections in possible fiv possitive cats. I have tried Metronidazole without success, mostly because it is virtually impossible to give them tablets due to their mouths being so sore. I tried crushing the tablets and diluting with water to give orally but that is an even worse option lol! I heard it comes in liquid forms but my vet has not been able to locate it to purchase for me.
Avatar f tn When I found out that I had trich, I bought Metronidazole and took 2grams (1 dosage) of it. Metronidazole made me feel really sick! Anyway, after a week I realized that I still had trich. Exactly the same symptoms were still there. So, I took Tinidazole.. a 2g dose. When will this take effect? I took tinidazole after I had dinner and went to sleep right away so that I won't feel the side effects of which I had when I took Metronidazole.
Avatar m tn I had to have a root canal redone as my previous dentist did not get the whole nerve and it became infected. The Dentist put me on amoxicillin 875mg twice a day, after 6 days I called him as it was having no effect. he then put me on clyndamycin 300mg twice a day, this is day two, it seemed better this morning and by this afternoon it isswelling slightly the tissue above my tooth is spongie again and I can tell it's filling with pus.
Avatar f tn Many tests and procedures later and her vet diagnosed her with inflammatory bowel disease and put her on Metronidazole and prescribed cat foods with duck, rabbit and deer. Well, both of my cats reaction to the new food was to try to bury it. The Metronidazole made Pixel sick and she stopped eating and her weight fell to under six pounds and the vet then put her on steroids. During this time I bought brand after brand of cat food, hoping to get her to eat anything.
926651 tn?1244140366 I have been on Coumadin for most of the last two years following two episodes of clots in my right leg. My INR varied between 1.8 and 2.4 and most often was between 2.0 and 2.2. In those two years may other medications, my diet, and level of exercise remained mostly the same. My Coumadin dose was 5mg four days a week and 7.5mg three days a week for most of the two years. Now my INR has suddenly jumped up. Yesterday it tested at 4.9, so my doctor had me retested today and it was 4.3.
Avatar n tn I think you are doing your best and about all you can do. From my perspective, cats, despite OUR best intentions, don't have the understandiong as to why we even take them to the vets let alone put them through surgery, except for broken legs and open wound type of thing where they can see and feel the immediate relief.
Avatar n tn what is the half life of oxycodone in cats? I've heard it works well for pain in cats. I'm trying to get more information on what may help my 12 year old cat. I'd like to have my questions in order before I pay my/her vet?
Avatar f tn Do you know what the source of your cats pain is? Human meds especially pain have to be given in precise doses (vet should help with this) Cats and dogs can be unintentialy overdosed. They all react differently. Fentanyl is an extremely strong opiate! I have been on it personally. I fell asleep standing up! I believe in some cases they also use Morphine. I have to look up metacam must be new.
Avatar f tn I just had my two cats spayed and neutered, as well as rabies vaccine, on Tuesday, Luna and Max, 6-7 months old. When I brought them home, Max seemed to be great, he ate, and drank, and was doing fine. Luna I was worried about, I gave her tramadol, and she did fine. Then on Thursday night I gave it to Max, thinking he was in pain as he wasn't acting himself. He scratched me, and spit out the 1/4 of the 50 mg tablet, then he frothed from the mouth. I just decided not to try that again.
681148 tn?1437661591 //www.petplace.com/cats/metronidazole-flagyl-toxicity-in-cats/page1.aspx have you tried Slippery Elm Bark? this is a wonderful supplement for GI upsets it soothes the GI tract and reduces inflamation...and none of the serious side effects of the Metr. drug. also how about ginger and digestive enzymes???? these are all good for gastritis issues. what brand of grain free food do you feed her?
Avatar m tn 5 months ago), I started observing small amounts of yellowish, rather on the thicker side, discharge from my penis. Also, there was an tingly-itching, and slightly burning sensation in my urethra, closer to the end of the shaft of the penis, right where it connects with the head. There was no other symptoms present: no swelling or pain in the testes, no redness of the tip of the penis, etc.
Avatar n tn i gave my dog the frontline plus for cats by mistake.
Avatar m tn Trichomoniasis can usually be cured with prescription drugs, either metronidazole or tinidazole, given by mouth in a single dose. The symptoms of trichomoniasis in infected men may disappear within a few weeks without treatment. However, an infected man, even a man who has never had symptoms or whose symptoms have stopped, can continue to infect or re-infect a female partner until he has been treated. Above is the treatment recommendation by the CDC. I would suggest following up with your Dr.
1474611 tn?1416632958 Another thing to consider is making sure the dosage was correct. Often they are weight dosed, even for cats, which also are kitten vs. adult cat dosed. If the dosage was too much, that could have caused irritation. Lastly, if the medication was a "cheap" product like Hertz and similar...these products often have other ingredients that tend to be irritants. Also, they often aren't that effective (from what I've seen from clients who have tried them).
Avatar f tn took the baby to the vet on saturday she put her & her mama(she has it also)on metronidazole suspension. vet told me that if they didnt improve by mon. to call back & try 2 get a stool sample. well its monday & there was no change so i took both cats in today and she put them on belladonna tablets. the stool sample came back ok. so now its a waiting game. thank you so much to everyone with comments they sure do help out alot.
611067 tn?1458591483 My cat does the same thing. I've had her looked at and they kept saying it was probably allergies. She also gets a weepy eye from time to time and I have to get an ointment to put in her eye. This last time we decided to try antibiotics in case it was some sort of viral bacteria or something. I've heard herpes in cats can cause these type symptoms too. You might want to get that checked out. Otherwise, it's probably just allergies.
187316 tn?1386356682 Macrobid I was told wasn't good in the first trimester. Though I'm not sure how any of them could really be considered "good". Metronidazole pretty much kills all negative cells in your body. It's so harsh that it kills the good and bad bacteria in your whoha. I'm just so concerned that it will have messed something up. I still can't even get over the fact I'm pregnant.
Avatar m tn I feel that what you did was the right thing to do because I went to the clinic and was told I had trich and my doctor told me to tell my sex partner to go get treated fro trich because long as I have and he and I we sexually active he automatically have it to and it will not show up in men it only shows up in females
Avatar n tn Hi jjackson, you can give some people meds like tums to cats but antibiotics need to be prescribed from the vet only because the dosage and type of infections cats get are different from the types we get and it can be lethal to give people meds to cats especially a pregnant one. The antibiotic you mention is in the tetracycline family and can cause birth defects in humans so do not give it to your cat, take her to the vet.
Avatar f tn I looked through some drug formularies but could not find any information about side effects in cats because, as has been mentioned, using this medication in cats is an off-label use of the drug. I agree with Savas that Puddie should be seen again as soon as possible. You might also consider cross posting this question in the Ask A Vet section to see if any of our doctors there have had a similar experience with ponazuril.
1472764 tn?1287588186 Has anyone ever used oral metronidazole for a vaginal bacterial infection? I'm on my 5th of 7th day and have developed a very thick clear to cloudy mucousy discharge. Is this normal. I know the gel form will pull everything out in a thick white chunky discharge but does the oral pill.
Avatar f tn Now I am pregnant and my OB thought I had yeast infection and prescribed metronidazole vaginal gel .75% for 5 days. (no testing to confirm what type of infection-just visual examination) I got better then got worse with itching, pain and she prescribed monostat....but then I examined myself closer and realized it was my first re-outbreak of the HSV2. I had minor spotting and went to see my OB and she confirmed what I already knew. She told me to double my valtrex for 10 days.
Avatar f tn t just go giving any medication without even knowing what you are treating....prednisone use in cats often leads to diabetes. Please describe what's wrong and I will try and help with some suggestions, I know yr only trying to help them but inappropriate use of meds can be fatal...
