A bit more detail if needed - doctor told me I had BV and prescribed the Metronidazole gel for 5 days. I finished using the gel on Sunday Oct 2. My symptoms seemed to be going away. However, starting yesterday morning, I have been experiencing some itching as well as thick, cottage-cheese like discharge. I understand it is common to develop a yeast infection after metronidazole.
The doctor told me I had bacterial vaginosis and a yeast infection I think that's why she prescribed metronidazole and she also prescribed a cream (miconazole nitrate) I just wasn't sure if metronidazole was ok to take while pregnant. THANKS GIRLS!
For yeast infections I was always given either monistat or fluconazole. A bacterial infection like BV would require metronidazole (flagyl).
I'm 25 weeks pregnant my doctor prescribed me Metronidazole Vaginal Gel for a bacteria that I have, has anyone else taken this during a pregnancy ? I'm really scared I've read about women who've lost their baby by taking this gel I'm really scared I called my OB and I asked him if its safe for the baby and he said it is but I'm really concerned about this, its my first baby too. I need Help anyone ??
so maybe two weeks ago i was on amoxicillin finished that and started itching so i was worried i had something, went to get checked they said i had bv and traces of yeast in my discharge so i finished my antibiotics for the bv and just started on saturday night my monistat 3 treatment, im on day two and the stuff that comes out is a yellow greenish discharge. is that normal?
What can u take for bv. I'm so sick and tired of going to the doctors and getting charged so muxh for it. Ita lime 500 $ just for them to swab me down there.
I took metronidazole pills and cream and they both did not work. So I tried testing my ph and it read normal. So I figured it must be a yeast infection. I tried monistat 7 day treatment. It did not work. Still have discharge and itching. I then tested my ph again and it is still reading 4.5 normal. What could this be?
That Friday he called saying I needed antibiotics and prescribed metronidazole two tables a day for 7 days. Over the weekend, the itchiness got worse and there came the swelling. Monday of this week I went to his office again but saw his colleague since my doctor wasn't in. She decided to test for herpes and gave me valtrex since she almost guranteed it was herpes. I explained the blisters were due to all the scratching.

Antibiotics can cause yeast infections in some women as well so have your doc prescribe flucanazole (spell check) to take after the metronidazole. It will most likely be a 7 day treatment. Mine got so bad this third trimester my va jay jay was swollen for a week. I am due with twins on Monday by c section.
i have treted my self using metronidazole, canesten viginal tablet and cream. i also notice for some month that the ovulation mucus during ovulation is dirty brown.and my menstration flow is dirty brown.i menstrurate for 3days and the forth and fifth day i see dirth brown discharge.iam not feeling any pain at all in my abdomen and i don't have any itching in my vigina.

However, at the same time i was diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis which I have never had before. I was given metronidazole and it went away, a week later, when I learned about the hsv results and went back to ther doctor. She said that the bv went away but I now had a yeast infection which I also had never had before. I was given diflucan I think its called, the one dose pill and the acyclovir for anymore hsv outbreaks. I also began takikng ortho tricyclen lo at this time.
I called my ob and told her over the phone that I thought I had a yeast infection and that I had tried monistat, she called in nystatin and triamcinolone acetonide cream that I used the same as the monostat. Still no help but it did help with the itching and swelling a little. So when called back week later she said I need to come in. So I went. I saw their infection dr. She did a few test on me and came back said I have trichomoniasis. She gave me metronidazole signal dose.
No burning just feeling of very full bladder and a lot of pressure and frequent urination. I was taking probiotics, cranberry pills and colodal silver and it seemed to be getting better. But after a few days came back and I also started having yellow discharge. So I saw the doctor and he diagnosed me with bacterial vaginosis even though my discharge has no odor.
It is diagnosed by pelvic examination, swabs of the discharge and their culture sensitivity. Treatment is by metronidazole (oral and pessaries).
I sincerely suggest you to discuss this possibility with a gynecologist.

Now I am pregnant and my OB thought I had yeast infection and prescribed metronidazole vaginal gel .75% for 5 days. (no testing to confirm what type of infection-just visual examination) I got better then got worse with itching, pain and she prescribed monostat....but then I examined myself closer and realized it was my first re-outbreak of the HSV2. I had minor spotting and went to see my OB and she confirmed what I already knew. She told me to double my valtrex for 10 days.
I had bv and a kidney infection with my son which sent me into preterm labor at 25weeks after 4 days in the hospital on iv antibiotics they sent me home and they had me take macrobid twice a day for two weeks then once a day for the rest of my pregnancy. I delivered at 35w.
I had protected vagina sex and unprotected vagina oral sex with a guy couple days later I started having a itching, burning sensation in my vagina area also I had thick white discharge, I peeped down there and noticed a rash so I used the one day monistat and it went away but my vagina in the inside was swollen so I went to the health department and they looked and tested me and I came back positive for BV I was given Flagyl and after taking the flagyl the rash appeared again with cottage cheese
My husband and I have the same thing going on, its more then likely the discharge, the meds for the yeast infection will help her with the itching and burning but it will help alot if you both wash before and after sex.
Is monistat safe? I'm really pissed because I've called my doctor two days in a row and no call back but its getting unbearable so has anyone used it I'm 27 weeks my DH is at the store now buying the monistat 7.
I visited the doctor Monday with a vaginal infection and was given Metronidazole to start taking. I went back for results Wednesday and I was confirmed to have BV. My doctor then gave me Erythromycin to take (2, twice a day)... as well as the Metronidazole (3, three times a day). This seems like an awful lot of antibiotics. Why was I given Erythromycin, when from as far as I can tell, Metronidazole alone is the recommended treatment for BV?

I went back to the ER and after 6 hours they told me it was a yeast infection and gave me medications(metronidazole and diflucan) for BV and Trich and YI. I took the medications as prescribed and cleared within 5 days just to have the same symptoms linger on. I visited planned parenthood and the doctor took swabs and cultures and looked at each one with a microscope and saw trichomonas and gave me more metronidazole to give to my partner as well.
I have burning with and without monistat. It suks!! I almost don't want to do it anymore, but I know I have too. This is my 3rd pregnancy and I've never had one before. I will try the yogurt like u suggested, I've read about it but wasn't too sure about doing it. I've also emailed my dr in hopes that she can maybe prescribe something..?
