Metronidazole and monistat

Common Questions and Answers about Metronidazole and monistat

so maybe two weeks ago i was on amoxicillin finished that and started itching so i was worried i had something, went to get checked they said i had bv and traces of yeast in my discharge so i finished my antibiotics for the bv and just started on saturday night my monistat 3 treatment, im on day two and the stuff that comes out is a yellow greenish discharge. is that normal?
No burning just feeling of very full bladder and a lot of pressure and frequent urination. I was taking probiotics, cranberry pills and colodal silver and it seemed to be getting better. But after a few days came back and I also started having yellow discharge. So I saw the doctor and he diagnosed me with bacterial vaginosis even though my discharge has no odor.
For yeast infections I was always given either monistat or fluconazole. A bacterial infection like BV would require metronidazole (flagyl).
I am struggling to get rid of this yeast infection, I've been diabetic for 10 years now and never had one before, I was treated with antibiotics for bacterial vaginosis a month ago, the smelly discharge disappeared but I got a yeast infection from the metronidazole. I've tried Monistat 7 and 1 in the last 2 weeks but the swelling and itching is still there, all the way to my anus. I just got my period and am very tired and stressed which does not help at all.
I have a question the doctor gave me metronidazole and im done with the 5 day treatment but now im discharging chunks of white that looks like cottage cheese. I know this medication takes away good bacteria that fights Frm yeast i think i have that right but now i have a yeast could i take miconazole to treat it??
I had one a year earlier, so I just went to the store and got the Monistat and it seemed to do the trick at the time. It came back, but not as bad. I went to the gyno for the first time to get birth control pills. The did the normal pap smear and the culture came back with yeast, so they prescribed me flucanazole. I took the pill that day and it seemed to go away for the time, but came back shortly after. My doctor just called in another pill, so I took it again.
However, at the same time i was diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis which I have never had before. I was given metronidazole and it went away, a week later, when I learned about the hsv results and went back to ther doctor. She said that the bv went away but I now had a yeast infection which I also had never had before. I was given diflucan I think its called, the one dose pill and the acyclovir for anymore hsv outbreaks. I also began takikng ortho tricyclen lo at this time.

on march 3, i stupidly had unprotected vaginal and oral sex with someone who the next day informed me that they had hepatitis C and genital herpes. The sex was pretty rough and i believe i got my period during the act because there was some bleeding that night and the next day only (believe short period due to taking birth control pills). He stated that he was in the past treated for his hepatitis C and his recent testing was negative for it.
If it is yeast, do I need to go get a prescription? I have heard of vinegar and monistat, but not sure how to mix and how to get it in the urethra. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Are there any 800 lines I could speak with a physican about this? Thanks.
I left the office and came back in 1 hour. She took out the tampon and there was no blue dye. So she said no fistula between the colon and vagina. So I went home and went to the bathroom. Well there was blue dye in my urine. So I went back into the office where they drew some urine with a catherer. There was blue tint to it. So she said that it was between my colon and bladder. So I went to the Cleveland Clinic and was checked and they could not find anything. They even did a coloscopy.
I took metronidazole pills and cream and they both did not work. So I tried testing my ph and it read normal. So I figured it must be a yeast infection. I tried monistat 7 day treatment. It did not work. Still have discharge and itching. I then tested my ph again and it is still reading 4.5 normal. What could this be?
So I recently began to start having sex again and I'm allergic to latex but I still wear them I recently had a yeast infection and I used monistat the seven day treatment waited a week after all the symptoms were gon had intercourse Saturday night after going to the water park and today I woke up with a yellow discharge that doesn't smell nor itch or burn.
That Friday he called saying I needed antibiotics and prescribed metronidazole two tables a day for 7 days. Over the weekend, the itchiness got worse and there came the swelling. Monday of this week I went to his office again but saw his colleague since my doctor wasn't in. She decided to test for herpes and gave me valtrex since she almost guranteed it was herpes. I explained the blisters were due to all the scratching.
So, she put me on Metronidazole pills 2x a day for 7 days and Metronidazole gel every night injected into the vagina. Then the side effects started. Constant headache, dizziness and feeling terrible. Went off the pills after 3 days since these side effects are listed on the paperwork. But continued with the gel. One more night to go and today the burning is back again. It's never been terrible burning, just uncomfortable.
For the last 6 months I have been getting tearing (look like paper cuts) in my vaginal area (1/4 to 1/2 inch long). I get the tears at least once or twice a week and they last from 2-4 days, go away for a few days and then come back. They continue to occur in the same locations; 1. Inside the vaginal lips on the sides almost always in the crease (between the labia minora and majora?) 2. Between the anus and vaginal opening (perineum) 3. Above the clitoris in the "hood" area.
Now I am pregnant and my OB thought I had yeast infection and prescribed metronidazole vaginal gel .75% for 5 days. (no testing to confirm what type of infection-just visual examination) I got better then got worse with itching, pain and she prescribed monostat....but then I examined myself closer and realized it was my first re-outbreak of the HSV2. I had minor spotting and went to see my OB and she confirmed what I already knew. She told me to double my valtrex for 10 days.

It is diagnosed by pelvic examination, swabs of the discharge and their culture sensitivity. Treatment is by metronidazole (oral and pessaries). I sincerely suggest you to discuss this possibility with a gynecologist. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts.
I have had yeast and bv infections my whole pregnancy. I just finished up another batch of metronidazole this week. Antibiotics can cause yeast infections in some women as well so have your doc prescribe flucanazole (spell check) to take after the metronidazole. It will most likely be a 7 day treatment. Mine got so bad this third trimester my va jay jay was swollen for a week. I am due with twins on Monday by c section.
yea my discharge is watery and has a white color to it...and ive been treated with "everything" metronidazole, diflucan, clindamycin, doxycycline, monistat, terazol gyne lotrimin you name it ive tryed it nothing has worked...
I got treated for it, but the itching was still there after it went away and came back again. My doctor told me to wait a few more days and see if it clears up otherwise call and they will do more tests to see if it went away or if I have a different type of an infection. I gave it about three days and it went away.
I had bv and a kidney infection with my son which sent me into preterm labor at 25weeks after 4 days in the hospital on iv antibiotics they sent me home and they had me take macrobid twice a day for two weeks then once a day for the rest of my pregnancy. I delivered at 35w.
he got treated with gentamicin sulfatecream and then just told him to use monistat we are both faithful and am also pregnant for first time and tested positive for gardnerElla but can't be treated till next trimester. so if you could ease my mind.
The second doctor said I still had BV (despite the antibiotic I was put on for BV) and a bladder infection. While using the Metronidazole gel, my discharge has changed to a cottage cheese type discharge. I'm so confused. If I have BV and not yeast, why is my discharge curdled?? My mother experienced BV throughout her 20s and I'm worried I will suffer the same fate. I don't sleep around. I have had only 2 sexual partners.
I called my ob and told her over the phone that I thought I had a yeast infection and that I had tried monistat, she called in nystatin and triamcinolone acetonide cream that I used the same as the monostat. Still no help but it did help with the itching and swelling a little. So when called back week later she said I need to come in. So I went. I saw their infection dr. She did a few test on me and came back said I have trichomoniasis. She gave me metronidazole signal dose.
i got my very first yeast infection for the first time this past weekend. monday, i started using monistat 3. after the final medication, the morning after, i used the bathroom and it burned a little, but that was the last of the burning. i was able to finally use the bathroom again without any burning, and there was no clumpy, smelly discharge. i'm also supposed to be ovulating soon, so i do see discharge that looks very normal and very healthy. but, here's the issue.
I went to the Dr and was prescribed medication she did not do a swab test bc the month that I got on the NuvaRing I had her check for any stds or any other type of infection and all the tests came back negative. Also, before I saw her for my appt I used Monistat bc the irritation was so bad and it worked to alleviate it some so my Dr thought that Fluconazole pill should take care of it since the Monistat was working. So she didn't run any tests then.
