Common Questions and Answers about Metronidazole and milk

I know that metronidazole is excreted in breast milk and is harmfull for the baby but how much is the resorbtion through vagina? Is it the same like intestinal absorption? Does somebody used this medication during breastfeeding?
My doc prescribed Metronidazole for that, and two days later I had a horrible fever and chills all night long (which I thought was a side effect of the Metronidazole) and my right breast was horribly red and really sore! I also had a cramp in the right side ovary. I went back to the doc, for the ovary pain (thinking the breast thing would resolve itself I stupidly didn't mention it to him).
I know I didn't mention the metronidazole in the first posting, and I apologize. I took the metronidazole after the doxy was completed as she suggested. Everything seemed to be fine for a while, but then I began milking my penis repeatedly, like a lot, throughout the day to check and make sure there was nothing there. After a couple of weeks of this, I began to notice the presence of mucus, which eventually began to become cloudy. Still no pain or spontaneous discharge.
Typically a concentrated stool sample is used. Metronidazole, furazolidone, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (TMP-SMX), quinacrine and pentamidine are used to treat this parasite and may be considered if the Cipro is ineffective. The fact that the eosinophils are elevated may be suggestive of a parasite. If the infectious route is a dead end, then it is time to consider endoscopy - either a colonoscopy or flexible sigmoidoscopy.
It seems that since I cut back on my protein shakes w/ milk it has not been as bad. I do eat a South Beach bar that is high in fiber and protein and take vitamins on the days I work so I am not sure if that causes the symptoms. The days that I stay away from the South Beach bar and vitamins, I seem to not have issues. This is so frustrating that no one has received an answer yet. This is the only site I even found doing a ton of searches that even talks about this issues.
For the last 6 months I have been getting tearing (look like paper cuts) in my vaginal area (1/4 to 1/2 inch long). I get the tears at least once or twice a week and they last from 2-4 days, go away for a few days and then come back. They continue to occur in the same locations; 1. Inside the vaginal lips on the sides almost always in the crease (between the labia minora and majora?) 2. Between the anus and vaginal opening (perineum) 3. Above the clitoris in the "hood" area.
librax, skelaxin, oxycodone, fentanyl patches, and topical metronidazole also. Still the pain is unbearable at times! My colon/rectal dr.is stumped, says my fissure has healed, so he has referred me to a dr. at Rush Presbytarian Hospital in chicago where I am to have a colonoscopy sept. 8th with Dr. Theodore Saclarides.Do you think the procedure will be able to determine the problem I am having? Do you have any ideas or suggestions as to my problem?
Wednesday morning I went to a clinic in my town and saw a nurse practictioner. I had a temp. of 99 and they did blood work and said it looked like a bacteria infection. Since I have been bitten by several ticks over the summer they also sent off some blood to test for lyme disease but said it would take 4-5 days for the results. Any way she gave me diphenoxy/atrop 2.5 mg for diarrhea and promethazine 25 mg for nausea, which i really hadn't experienced.
I'm pretty certain she has overgrowth because she is abnormally gassy - burps and farts like you wouldn't believe, can feel milk fermenting in her even, has pain on feeding and is distressed and cries a lot, and doesn't gain weight despite vast amounts of calories (more than enough for catch-up growth, she's under a dietician). Obviously i stopped the lansoprazole.
The probiotics mentioned can be utilized immediately from the grocery store, Acidophilus milk. But I would print out the whole article and forthwith take it to a gastroenterologist, see can he take over the case, as it takes careful handling. http://www.mayoclinic.
I put my finger inside TMI, sorry, and what I pulled out was nasty, was chunky like sour milk AND was alot so I don't know if that's the discharge once taking the gel-metronidazole-Anyone can help?

He was on antibiotics for FOUR MONTHS straight before he got better - a high dose of Doxycycline, as well as Flagyl, which is a brand name for Metronidazole, and anti-biotic found useful against anaerobic infections such as clostridium tetani (the bacteria that causes the disease tetanus). I'm going to try this approach.

i went back to my GP and he gave me another round of azithromycin 1g, 2g metronidazole and a 10-day course of doxycycline, 200mg a day in a single dose. again i finished the course, but the symptoms won't go away. he gave me another round of azithromycin 1g. after that i had another 10-day doxycycline course together with 2g metronidazole. still the symptoms are there. i had urinalysis again and they found 1-2hpf of RBC in my urine.
I wanted to clarify the treatment I have had (esp the azithromycin and metronidazole) and the past diagnosis of prostatitis. I'm not sure why prostatitis, if that's what it is, would flare up after the levaquin which has always helped it in the past. And its never caused this split stream. Though its only once or twice a day and never first thing in the morning. Maybe I sit too much now and its sweat?
i ve completed a full course of metronidazole yet i smell some funny scent and it very itchy around my liba mijora sometimes wn i scratch it forms little spots.
I think everything is over and I clean up. I walk out of the toilet and in about 2 minutes time the stomach cramp and the fainting sensation comes back (I've fainted only once to date from this and was out for about 15-20 minutes). 6. When I get back to the toilet I have a really violent Diarrhoea episode in pure liquid state.
Thank you for your response! I have purchased some pro-biotics (acidophilus) a while ago but haven't taken them consistently, just now trying it out. I know the shelf-stable brand I have works because I did the "milk test" and it curdled the milk overnight, plus it's upsetting my stomach a little bit which I read is typical in the beginning of treatment. I've been meaning to try the boric acid.

I had a cystoscopy in Dec 2004, and the urologist noticed all this white debris in my bladder, and put me on Norfloxacin, doxyclcline, and metronidazole. Now my urethra is sore.... Any suggestions?
This will lessen the muscle spasms. Low salt diet and all, I weaned myself off the diurectics. I started taking MILK THISTLE. All liver function tests are normal, no ascites or any other symptons of liver disease, only the liver biopsy to confirm cirrhosis. The doctors do not believe in herbal remedies. They work! I take the brand NOW, Liver Detoxifier & Regenerator, daily along with Traditional Medicinals Every Day Detox Tea. All suffering, please try this. I am now fine!
got a lot of the same symptoms as others on this forum. have increased my consumption of whole milk and seem to be doing better. wondering if i am lacking some vitamin deficiency. Going back to doctor tomorrow. almost 1 yr now and problem still comes and go. nothing major just that sm discomfort every now and then.
well, i made sure to take at LEAST once a day, they were making me quite sick, even when i ate and/or drank milk with them like i was supposed to and the few times i took them as i was supposed to, they made me sick to the point of puking.. and the last time i took them twice a day, the next morning i was so sick, i couldn't keep anything down and ended up puking 6 times before 10 AM.. I had to leave school, and I canNOT be missing school.. So, I stopped taking them after that.
the spores that the C.diff produces can survive on many surfaces and then contamination can occur. Metronidazole or Vancocin are the main antibiotics used to cure this nasty illness. Make sure your son sees a reputable GI. Good luck!
It does not seem to be related to exercise since I can go for a run and feel nothing... but then I can be sitting and all of a sudden my calves (always both at the same time) start to ache and feel tight. Sometimes they feel so sore that I can almost not walk. Water seems to help on occasions. I can't understand why all of a sudden I may be becoming dehydrated so that doesn't seem logical... The aches come and go without warning and sometimes it's much worse than other times.
As rosacea progresses, other symptoms can develop such as semi-permanent erythema( redness), telangiectasia (dilation of superficial blood vessels on the face), red domed papules (small bumps) and pustules, red gritty eyes, burning and stinging sensations. The disorder can be confused with, and co-exist with acne vulgaris and/or seborrhoeic dermatitis.
