Metoprolol xl dose

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol xl dose

toprol

Avatar m tn When I made that same switch a few years ago, I went from 100mg Toprol XL once a day to 100mg metoprolol succinate once a day. Neither my doctor nor my pharmacist ever suggested that I would need to split the dose. My understanding is that metoprolol succinate is an extended release formuation that substitutes directly for Toprol XL. But ask your doc or a pharmacist to make sure. I'm off of the drug entirely now, so I don't worry with it anymore.
Avatar m tn re taking the time release version of Metoprolol, so the results of a dose are drawn out more so the the standard Metoprolol.
Avatar n tn I have taken Toprol xl 25 mg for about 5 years. My doctor switched me to metoprolol several months ago. When I filled my prescription this time, it was from a different mfg and I think I may be having problems with it as I just don't feel right. Could changing the mfg make a difference? ALSO, my doctor prescribed 50 mg to be cut in half for my prescribed 25 mg dose. Does cutting this tablet in half compromise the time release?
Avatar f tn I suggest you call the doctor or pharmacist. You are on a very low dose. I take 50mg of Toprol XL twice daily and that does not totally keep the SVT under control. It's possible you are not taking enough.
Avatar f tn Im already on 100 mg 1 time a day of extended release Metoprolol.....and I think, just to appease me, because ive had a couple really really bad days of almost nonstop palps..he said to increase my Metoprolol to 1 100mg tablet in the morning...and 1 100mg tablet at night. Anyone EVER been on such a huge dose before??? I trust him...but yet....Im scared to take that much!!! ANY info on SVC OR Metoprolol would be appreciated!
Avatar n tn I understand Metoprolol SR and Toprol XL are equivalent, the Metoprolol being the generic, and much lower in cost. I've taken both, albeit it has been at least 6 years since I last used the brand-name Toprol XL. I guess I'm 'lucky" as far as HR goes. If I take 100 mg twice a day of Metoprolol my rest HR goes into the 70s at rest. I have been trying lower dose to see if that reduces the dream problem I have.
Avatar m tn New cardio. was on atenolol 25 mg 2x daily for aortic valve disorder, but had issues of impotence and very very low heart rate, as well as numerous palpitations. Cardio swithced me to metoprolol xl 25mg 1x daily. my heart rate has gone from the high 50's to the high 80's from yesterday to today. Is this normal? I believed that the xl on the metoprolol was extended release, and that the dosage should do the same thing as far as hr and bp. by has gone from 116/68 to 138/89.
Avatar f tn Metoprolol Tartrate is meant to be taken USUALLY twice daily, or every 12 hours. It has a fairly short half life so you need to take as such. You could take 25mg every six hours, and it would probably benefit you by smoothing out the amount in your blood. The problem is that we're prone to forgetting to take the dose when scheduled. I supposed you could put an alarm on your phone to ring you every six hours as a reminder. Physicians seem to be ok with dosing every 12 hours.
Avatar f tn If you are good about taking medications, Metoprolol Tartrate is perhaps a quarter of the cost of the Toprolol XL, except you have to take it twice a day. I take mine every 12 hours, at dinner and upon rising; 5 and 5 is easy to remember.
214864 tn?1229715239 com report, consumers have experienced increased blood pressure, increased heart rate and ectopic beats, as well as side effects such as nausea, dizziness and headaches when switched from Toprol XL to Metoprolol Succinate ER. ConsumerLab.com noted that the Sandoz formulation of the product is different from Toprol XL and dissolves in a different manner.
Avatar n tn Went to ER two more times in Feb 2011 for deep chest aches, which turned out to be costochrondritis (chest wall inflammation), cause unknown. I asked my cardiologist about reducing the dose of metoprolol to help alleviate some of the side effects I was having, and so we knocked it back to 25 mg/day (one 1/2 tablet 12 hrs apart) over the past couple weeks.
Avatar m tn Hi again tom_h, Oh ok I see and it's really helping you? Apparently beta-blocker are not increasing the chance to survive after a heart attack and better antihypertensive drugs like the Ace inhibitor are better? Anyway, my cardiologist put me again on the Propranolol and increase my dose to 40 mg day. I was on 50 mg day of Metoprolol. I did 2 days on 40 mg of Propranolol and I had the same side-effects than on the metoprolol...
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm happy to hear that Metoprolol works for you. It's awesome to wake up and not have those little devils wake up with you!! I dont' think you'll have any problems. It sounds like you are taking the NON extended release form once a day and it's working and that's awesome. Beta Blockers as a whole are a wonder drug. They make things flow smoother. They have always worked for me...I just can't take the generics I guess.
Avatar m tn Metoprolol caused me hair loss....Bystolic has slowed it down somewhat....
Avatar n tn Many people report an increase in heart palpitations after switching from Toprol XL to its generic version, Metoprolol. My guess is that the generic version is ****, which is the case with many generics, despite what the FDA tells consumers.
Avatar n tn Also while ToprolXL is convenient, it comes with a price. Metoprolol Tartrate needs to be taken twice a day but is literally pennies per dose. I take mine at 5am and 5pm so it's hard to forget; upon rising and at dinner.
Avatar n tn I also have been competitively cycling and running since 1975 and now have been diagnosed with paroxymal atrial fibrillation. Resting pulse also 45. I have been on a low dose of Toprol XL-25mg which seems to help somewhat but I do notice that my heart rate is slow to come up while running and I still get some episodes of Afib which last about 24 hours. I tried a 50 mg dose of immediate acting metoprolol, the generic version of Toprol, and found running to be almost impossible.
687614 tn?1244197979 Hi, I was taken off of Bystolic and put back on Metoprolol XL 100 mg 1 times a day. I take it in the afternoon at about 2:00pm. But when I get up in the morning it tends to be around 98-100 and when I exert like take a shower it is around 130 range. BP is in the normal range finally. Cardiologist wants me to take this dose in the morning and now add 50 mg of the XL in the evening.
Avatar f tn Thanks for responding! I’m taking the Metoprolol succ er. Not sure what the difference is from the Tartrate. I am only taking it once a day. My bp read that low yesterday around 6 pm when I had taken it at 7am. I’m not sure if it helps too much with slowing down my heart because it still gets up over 100 and higher easily just walking around my house.
Avatar n tn I have had atrial flutter for the past 8 years, and have been taking up to 100mg of Flecanide twice a day. I also take 12.5 mg of Toprol XL. I was recently diagnosed with Peripheral Neuropathy (numbness and tingling or burning) in the hands and mostly the feet. I have read that some people who take Flecanide have contracted Perepheral Neuropathy. Is this typical of all AF drugs. I am in Mexico, and a local doctor suggested that I switch to a drug called RYTHMOL.
Avatar f tn There is no Metoprolol withdrawal symptoms. There can be a rebound effect, but it depends a lot on what you were taking it for on whether the rebound wouldbe important in your case. As was said, 12.5mg is teeny tiny. At the end of the day, there is a minute amount remaining in your body. I stopped my 100mg dose 2 weeks before my electrophysiology procedure. My physician instructed me to just stop. I was fine. There was some "jumpiness", but it was completely tolerable.
Avatar m tn i am taking toprol xl 25 mg (half in am and half in pm. it seems to be working on bp but when i am up on my feet heart rate goes to 100-115. why isn't it working on hr.
Avatar m tn i did one echo that was normal, i only had tachycardia. Doc gave me metoprolol. I was taking metoprolol for 12 days and suddenly felt something like pvcs. When i did ecg back in the hospital i saw several pvcs. 2 years ago i did a holter monitor there i got 208 pvcs. these 2 years i felt totally fine but after taking metoprolol i got pvcs and i have it especially at night. what should i do? can anyone help?
Avatar m tn I am on Metoprolol 100 mg/day. I feel good no side effects at all, never had. It was fine from the beginning. Before I was on Coreg . Same, it was fine. I do not think you have any side effects from medications at all. You do have anxiety. You should work on that. There are healthier ways to work on that instead of taking prescription drugs. It can harm you many ways on the long run.
Avatar m tn I know that I also memtioned that metoprolol tartrate (not Toprol XL) is not intended as a once a day pill because of its short half life. You end up with a roller coaster of drug levels.
Avatar m tn They seem to work well together. Maybe you can take a lower dose of Metoprolol along with the Diltiazem, perhaps at a higher dose. Your post implies you nightmares are gone now that you are off of the BB... the CCB may also have that side effect. What I am suggesting is talk with your doctor about taking a lower dose of BB along with your CCB, they act in different ways, so they do not compete, or conflict.
Avatar m tn I take Metoprolol for a thick heart muscel & pvc, which it doesn't help much with the pvc's, Diltiazem was just added 120mg once a day. My doctor seemed somewhat reluctant to add the Diltiazem but said lets try it. My Blood pressure has been around 155/95. His reluctance just seems to scare me. Should I try it or should I not? If I do start taking it should I take it with the metoprolol or at different times?
