toprol

Avatar n tn If he was prescribed 100 mg Toprol XL once/day it should be the same as taking metoprolol tartrate 50 mg 2/day. We are not physicians nor pharmacists and you should consult one or both about drug substitutions and dosage equivalents.
214864 tn?1229715239 com report, consumers have experienced increased blood pressure, increased heart rate and ectopic beats, as well as side effects such as nausea, dizziness and headaches when switched from Toprol XL to Metoprolol Succinate ER. ConsumerLab.com noted that the Sandoz formulation of the product is different from Toprol XL and dissolves in a different manner.
Avatar n tn I have taken Toprol xl 25 mg for about 5 years. My doctor switched me to metoprolol several months ago. When I filled my prescription this time, it was from a different mfg and I think I may be having problems with it as I just don't feel right. Could changing the mfg make a difference? ALSO, my doctor prescribed 50 mg to be cut in half for my prescribed 25 mg dose. Does cutting this tablet in half compromise the time release?
Avatar m tn I don't think Metoprolol makes them worse. What I have seen on myself, however, is that it doesn't work at all. I took up to 50 mg a day. I switched temporarily now to Toprol XL to see if that's the answer since the generics seem to have no effect.
Avatar m tn I have taken 50 mgs of toprol XL for 12-13 years. It is a very safe and a good medication in my opinion. The XL means that it has an Extended Life .. in other words one pill is supposed work for at least 24 hours i think... but anyway... I dont know why the doc would say just use it when your rate is fast.. if you took one a day ....your heart rate should stay pretty regular Id think.. but Im not a doctor... I dont really know about taking it occassionally... doesnt make alot of sense to me..
Avatar n tn I understand Metoprolol SR and Toprol XL are equivalent, the Metoprolol being the generic, and much lower in cost. I've taken both, albeit it has been at least 6 years since I last used the brand-name Toprol XL. I guess I'm 'lucky" as far as HR goes. If I take 100 mg twice a day of Metoprolol my rest HR goes into the 70s at rest. I have been trying lower dose to see if that reduces the dream problem I have.
Avatar f tn Im already on 100 mg 1 time a day of extended release Metoprolol.....and I think, just to appease me, because ive had a couple really really bad days of almost nonstop palps..he said to increase my Metoprolol to 1 100mg tablet in the morning...and 1 100mg tablet at night. Anyone EVER been on such a huge dose before??? I trust him...but yet....Im scared to take that much!!! ANY info on SVC OR Metoprolol would be appreciated!
Avatar m tn New cardio. was on atenolol 25 mg 2x daily for aortic valve disorder, but had issues of impotence and very very low heart rate, as well as numerous palpitations. Cardio swithced me to metoprolol xl 25mg 1x daily. my heart rate has gone from the high 50's to the high 80's from yesterday to today. Is this normal? I believed that the xl on the metoprolol was extended release, and that the dosage should do the same thing as far as hr and bp. by has gone from 116/68 to 138/89.
Avatar m tn When I made that same switch a few years ago, I went from 100mg Toprol XL once a day to 100mg metoprolol succinate once a day. Neither my doctor nor my pharmacist ever suggested that I would need to split the dose. My understanding is that metoprolol succinate is an extended release formuation that substitutes directly for Toprol XL. But ask your doc or a pharmacist to make sure. I'm off of the drug entirely now, so I don't worry with it anymore.
Avatar f tn If you are good about taking medications, Metoprolol Tartrate is perhaps a quarter of the cost of the Toprolol XL, except you have to take it twice a day. I take mine every 12 hours, at dinner and upon rising; 5 and 5 is easy to remember.
Avatar f tn The Toprol XL (Metoprolol Succinate) tablet should not be cut in half. Doing so defeats it's time release properties. If you want to mess with dosages (and I don't think you should), the generic Metoprolol Tartrate (referred to as just Metoprolol) can be cut in half without a problem. I take an odd, 75mg. Per day; 50mg at dinner, and 25mg (half a pill) upon rising. Think of your dose level as a "starting dose level".
687614 tn?1244197979 Hi, I was taken off of Bystolic and put back on Metoprolol XL 100 mg 1 times a day. I take it in the afternoon at about 2:00pm. But when I get up in the morning it tends to be around 98-100 and when I exert like take a shower it is around 130 range. BP is in the normal range finally. Cardiologist wants me to take this dose in the morning and now add 50 mg of the XL in the evening.
Avatar n tn Metoprolol is available in two forms, fast acting Metoprolol Tartrate (Lopressor), and the time release Metoprolol Succinate (Toprol XL). I used both, and found that side effects are similar; tiredness, weight gain, and a slow pulse. Side effects are more pronounced as the dosage is increased. I had dosages from 25mg to 200mg. daily. Other reported effects are loss of libido, tightness in the chest, itching, irregular breathing, and irregular heartbeat.
Avatar m tn Metoprolol caused me hair loss....Bystolic has slowed it down somewhat....
Avatar f tn My pharmacacy switched my "Toprol XL 50 mg" to a Generic one called "Metoprolol Succinate ER 50 mg" (manufactured by Sandoz) in December 2007. I have been on some form of Beta Blockers for years and I thought nothing of it. Within a week I was at my eye doctor because my left eye went from 20/20 to 20/60 and was so blurry that I felt like I had suntan lotion or something in it. Since then I have been to so many doctors because things just kept getting worse.
Avatar n tn Many people report an increase in heart palpitations after switching from Toprol XL to its generic version, Metoprolol. My guess is that the generic version is ****, which is the case with many generics, despite what the FDA tells consumers.
567826 tn?1217016994 Hi Bromley, I am taking Metoprolol for my high BP and now BP is down and so is my pulse, which has been in the 50's and 60's for approximately a week now. Thank you so much for the response!
Avatar f tn She had me just stop propranolol and start metoprolol, been experiencing shakiness, occassional pvcs, headache, nausea, pulse still 45 - low 60s at rest and with exertion 70-90. Should she have tapered propranolol or will the metoprolol block the more serious withdrawal symptoms ie: HTN, chest pain ect.
Avatar n tn I don't think its the Toprol that is causing your decreased heart rate. I feel it reduces mine by maybe 10 bpm at the most at the 25 mg dosage. The prescribing info claims 14% reduction for a 50 mg dose, the lowest tested. Its commonly prescribed as high as 200 mg, so our 25 mg is very low. For what its worth, the effect of beta blockers seems to wear off with me as I run further.
Avatar m tn I take Metoprolol for a thick heart muscel & pvc, which it doesn't help much with the pvc's, Diltiazem was just added 120mg once a day. My doctor seemed somewhat reluctant to add the Diltiazem but said lets try it. My Blood pressure has been around 155/95. His reluctance just seems to scare me. Should I try it or should I not? If I do start taking it should I take it with the metoprolol or at different times?
Avatar n tn Talk it over with your cardiologist to see if you can try 50 mg XL once a day. If she agrees you can split you 100 mg tablets - if necessary buy a pill splitter. Here I assume you'll get a chance to see what 50 mg will do and I further assume you didn't have serious side effects at the 25 mg level.
Avatar f tn I have taken Metoprolol as high as 100 mg twice a day... more recently only 100 mg and now 50 mg once a day. I have added a calcium channel blocker --- I'm not getting better :( I have had no problem with a glass or two or wine or beer with meals, or even one with a snack. I agree the recommendation is to abstain from drinking alcohol. I'm sure I've told my cardiologist I have a drink "now and then" and I don't recall any outcry form him.
Avatar n tn The SCARY thing is that in Europe they do not have Metoprolol Succinate Extended Release (TOPROL-XL). They only have Metoprolol tartrate, which for me is as bad as having none or even worse. I just moved to Europe and mnow realized this and what am I going to do? I can order Toprol XL from Canada and Turkey and even from Mauritius etc. yet European doctors do not prescribe it. What am I going to DO??
Avatar m tn Hi again tom_h, Oh ok I see and it's really helping you? Apparently beta-blocker are not increasing the chance to survive after a heart attack and better antihypertensive drugs like the Ace inhibitor are better? Anyway, my cardiologist put me again on the Propranolol and increase my dose to 40 mg day. I was on 50 mg day of Metoprolol. I did 2 days on 40 mg of Propranolol and I had the same side-effects than on the metoprolol...
443862 tn?1237999439 I take 50 mg of Metoprolol twice a day for Atrial Fibrilation; I also have Hashimotos disease. Metoprolol can cause dizziness when standing up so talk with your doc. I personally have had good luck on it. When hospitalized for the Atiral Fib twice within 1 week the docs at hospital were convinced it was my thyroid meds (I take 88 mcg of Synthroid and 1.75 mg of T3). Without these meds I can not function...
Avatar f tn I was on Toprol XL for a number of years, but only 25mg. I hated the side effects such as shortness of breath and nightsweats, but never depressions. Then I went to see a cardiologist and he took me off the beta blocker and prescribed a calcium channel blocker - 5mg.
