Metoprolol weaning

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol weaning

toprol

Avatar f tn I tried once to get off the Metoprolol. I went from a small dose of 25 mg once a day to half of that once a day for two weeks, then every other day, then skip a couple or three days, then skip more days, then stopped. I still had palpatations and very fast heartbeat. If I was very still, I was okay but when I moved at all or ate a meal, then came the palpatations. will I ever be able to get off of it?
Avatar f tn I have been on metoprolol 25mg for two 1/2 years. Then my doctor put me on metoprolol er 50mg. I have been having shortness of breath and minor chest discomfort; i'm only 45 years old and i want off of this medication totally. Has anyone ever wean themselves off of this medication with no problems? If so, how did you do it? Any advise is helpful to me. Thank you.
Avatar f tn who changed me to Quinapril twice a day because he said it was better for kidneys and added Metoprolol ER 50mg / day because my pulse was always around 90. My BP was usually 120 / 80 with the Ramipril. It's now down to 105 / 65 and my pulse is down to 70. BUT I can't stand how gassy the Metoprolol makes me. I am walking around passing gas all day without being able to control it. I also have had terrible dreams and think I am feeling depressed.
Avatar f tn does anybody have any experiences getting off metoprolol tartrate? I've been taking 25 mg a day (split in 2) for around 2 years now, I've occasionally gone to 50 mg a day but had to go back down Everytime. it was given to me because of PVC / slightly high blood pressure and sinus tach. it helped at first but I was sent to the ER 16 days ago for panic attack / tach due to smoking weed. ever since my symptoms have gotten so much worse.
Avatar f tn The short answer is yes. You should always be careful about weaning off Metoprolol. Recently I tried going from 25mg per day to 12.5mg, and I felt the side effects. Some people are more sensitive to it than others, but any cardiologist worth their salt will tell you to be careful. I also get anxiety induced PVCs. Those are fun! So I can almost guarantee that they are due to stress, but it's always good to get a doctor's opinion for peace of mind. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Metoprolol for two weeks. I am having alot of side effects and want to stop taking it. Do I have to wean myself off of it if I have only been taking it for two weeks? If so how do I wean off of it?
Avatar f tn Hello, my doctor is currently weaning me off the beta blocker Metoprolol tartrate and he told me told me to start by taking half in the morning and half at night so I just wanted to make sure that this medication can be cut in half.....?
Avatar f tn Madge I'm so glad you didn't go on Metoprolol. I can't tell you how much I'm getting off this blog. My doctor just put me on clonazepam I had been on diazapan - very light use. 30 5 mg tabs would last me 6 mo or more but I took it for muscle spasms and to help with sleep if I was stressed out. Since my family problems got bad i've been taking 1/2 to 1 chonazepam 1mg for about a week. Just last night I thought I could go off it as the stress has lessened.
Avatar m tn I've taken metoprolol for six days for high blood pressure, it made me feel lousy, groggy and gave me headaches. I want to stop it cold turkey, my doctor says its ok with such a small dose but I am a huge worrier and would like to know if anyone had any side effects when stopping even after taking it for such a short period of time??
Avatar f tn Hello, me again, I have been waiting with bated breath to come off of my beta blockers, and now that the time is nearing I am PETRIFIED. I came down from 25 mg to 12.5 mg for the past two months, now I am taking the 12.5 every other day and I am really nervous. I feel like if I have any skipped beats that means I need to stay on the meds, but that's crazy because I have skipped beats while on the meds too :-) As you can see I don't know what to do.
Avatar m tn first off i would like to say that I am aware and would like for anyone who has read this question to know that metoprolol is to NOT be stopped cold turkey and is supposed to be monitored by your doctor if you were to wean off the drug. my question is that has anyone shifted the times of when their doses were suppose to be taken? did your doctor give you the okay?
Avatar m tn As far as the metoprolol goes, the two indications for that drug in this situation, that I am aware of, are for heart rate and blood pressure. If you can get off the drug without any adverse effects on your heart rate or blood pressure, then maybe you can do without it. You're on a low dose, so it's hard to see that it could be doing all that much, anyway. I would ask the doctor for a trial off of it, to see.
Avatar f tn I experienced my first what i believe was a panic attack after I ate a cookie with marijuana. I had no idea what was happening to my body, I felt dizzy for a bit in the car then when I got out and walked a bit my heart started to race I started to breath fast and felt like I would pass out.
Avatar m tn My problem is that my regular running workout 3 times a week was affected by the limit on exercise pulse immediately last year from the sotalol beta blocker, and I am considering weaning off the sotalol, in order to be able to restore my running effort beyond jogging. I am looking for medical advice beyond the weaning alternative, with the understanding that ablation has its own problems such as reoccurence of flutter, and almost all other medications have drawbacks in their side effects.
Avatar f tn I take metoprolol and I have had hardly any side effects. It did make me alittle tired but I got use to it. Everybody is different when it comes to meds and side effects. For expample musikbox could not tolerate metoprolol and was switched to atenolol. For me it was the opposite. I could not function on atenolol and had to come off of it and I am having no problems with metoprolol.
Avatar m tn Hey guys just wanted to ask the forum what you guys feel with metoprolol about two hours before your next dose (around 12 hours apart; I do 12 hours personally but we are told to take it whenever we want with a good gap in-between). I was also told the medicine is stored in you if it is necessary to stop medication for a day for another health procedure; which is strange.
12182312 tn?1427683956 SSRIs like paroxetine are a type of antidepressant that works by increasing the amount of serotonin in the brain, while metoprolol is a beta blocker which works on the heart. What type of metoprolol are you taking. Metoprolol Tartrate or Metoprolol Succinate?
Avatar f tn Im already on 100 mg 1 time a day of extended release Metoprolol.....and I think, just to appease me, because ive had a couple really really bad days of almost nonstop palps..he said to increase my Metoprolol to 1 100mg tablet in the morning...and 1 100mg tablet at night. Anyone EVER been on such a huge dose before??? I trust him...but yet....Im scared to take that much!!! ANY info on SVC OR Metoprolol would be appreciated!
Avatar n tn I have taken Toprol xl 25 mg for about 5 years. My doctor switched me to metoprolol several months ago. When I filled my prescription this time, it was from a different mfg and I think I may be having problems with it as I just don't feel right. Could changing the mfg make a difference? ALSO, my doctor prescribed 50 mg to be cut in half for my prescribed 25 mg dose. Does cutting this tablet in half compromise the time release?
