Avatar m tn I am 38 year old.I was diagnosed of high BP(170/105mm/hg). I was prescrbed metoprolol 50mg and amlodipine 5mg. I have been taking this medine for a year. I have been regularly checking my BP ever since. It comes to 130/75mm/hg within a month. But Still I am taking the same dosage. My worry is : Is metoprolol and amlodipine safe to take?Since I am 38 only what would be its long term effects. That is taking the drug for over 30 years? Finally whether the dosage may be changed? Please help.
1464004 tn?1384135733 Has anyone had experience with side effects from metoprolol after using awhile? I've been on a minimal dose (25 mgs bid) for over 6 months now. I didn't seem to have any side effects to speak of until recently. I do also have positional vertigo. Not only has this gotten worse as of late but I have become unsteady on my feet and dizzy quite often. I had to get a ct scan for tumor in my neck and it was just horrible!

Avatar m tn In the last few years I’ve developed dizziness and can’t figure out what it’s from. I also take Metoprolol 25mg once a day and other meds. Last week I ended up in the ER because my BP was higher than usual (146/96), even after taking my daily medication. My blood pressure is usually 117/70 and heart rate in the low 70’s. They ran all the usual tests like ekg, chest scan, blood work, etc. All came back fine and went home.
Avatar f tn Been on Atenolol (for 15 years) then switched to Metoprolol when the Aten quit stopping the palpitations. Well..I havent felt "right" for a while now. Tired, always feel like I have a SLIGHT case of vertigo..not really dizzy..but...off.... I kept up with my workouts and every other crazy thing in my life. Went to the cardiac workout place on Wed of last week to workout, and I was telling the tecnician about how I had been feeling.
Avatar n tn atenolol caused me to have vertigo, anxiety attacks, right ear hearing loss, and short term memory loss......
Avatar f tn I am being awakened by vertigo about once a week from my sleep. The episodes last anywhere from 10 seconds to several minutes. The longer they go the more dizzy I feel. Moving makes it worse, but I can usually find a position that will make it better. It appears that lying on my back is the worst position. When I wake up, I have a low-grade headache & my neck is sore. I also feel disoriented a bit and even shaky for a day or two.
12182312 tn?1427683956 SSRIs like paroxetine are a type of antidepressant that works by increasing the amount of serotonin in the brain, while metoprolol is a beta blocker which works on the heart. What type of metoprolol are you taking. Metoprolol Tartrate or Metoprolol Succinate?
Avatar f tn Im already on 100 mg 1 time a day of extended release Metoprolol.....and I think, just to appease me, because ive had a couple really really bad days of almost nonstop palps..he said to increase my Metoprolol to 1 100mg tablet in the morning...and 1 100mg tablet at night. Avatar n tn I have taken Toprol xl 25 mg for about 5 years. My doctor switched me to metoprolol several months ago. When I filled my prescription this time, it was from a different mfg and I think I may be having problems with it as I just don't feel right. Could changing the mfg make a difference? ALSO, my doctor prescribed 50 mg to be cut in half for my prescribed 25 mg dose. Does cutting this tablet in half compromise the time release?
Avatar n tn I have been having some strange symptoms since starting metoprolol as a migraine preventative. My head feels like it weighs a ton, and there is a lot of pressure up there, too. I've also been experiencing blurry vision and some concentration issues. I also take lithium, trazodone and neurontin and a rare xanax.
443862 tn?1237999439 I don't think the metoprolol, a beta blocker which; reduces the force and rate of the contraction of the heart, is causing this. The medicines that you take for hyperthyroidism might cause some exacerbation of the "hard heart beat" symptoms, especially if they are contraindicated with metoprolol, of course. Your doctor should be on top of this and I would let him know about it, especially if it just started, or is getting worse.
Avatar f tn Ok so I've been on Metoprolol 50-100mg a day for about a year for benign tachycardia. It's overall worked good for me. But I've noticed a decline in sexual function, specifically, more difficulty keeping an erection during sex. I'm about to start Cialis, so hopefully that will help regardless, but my cardiologist mentioned that I might try Cardizem. He was suggesting it had fewer sexual side effects.
Avatar f tn I take this medication as well and have been on it for 3 years. I have never experienced depression while on this medication. I believe your doctor is correct in that this is not a side effect of the medication. I have not heard of weight gain from this medication as well. Maybe this is a side effect of your depression? In other words, you are eating more because you are depressed.
Avatar n tn I got the generic form but the cost is very high. Can he switch to metoprolol and take 50mg in the am and 50mg in the pm?
Avatar f tn He told me to wean off of the metoprolol for 5 days while taking the verapamil, and to cut down to 50mg on the metoprolol for the first day and go progressively down throughout the 5 days it takes for the verapamil to get in my system. I haven't started the verapamil yet. Partially because I have a hard time swallowing pills, partially because I am confused about the specifics of switching.
1027737 tn?1253103788 Hi, Can someone tell me what the difference between Metoprolol and Metoprolol Tartrate is? Thank You in advance!
589617 tn?1218719782 I take metoprolol (aka lopressor) for PVC's and occasional SVT. It has been good for me....my PVC's are not gone, but they are not as "forceful" and therefore are easier to ignore. The SVT is very infrequent for me in the first place, so I can't say that the metoprolol has had anything to do with the fact that I haven't had any for nearly 1.5 years, but I'm not going to stop the drugs to find out :-).
Avatar n tn Thanks, I just had my check up on Tuesday, everything looked ok. I am taking metoprolol 50mg, it could be side effects from this drug? I had blood tests done yesterday and they are find...I feel very weak, not hungry at all, in the mornings until mid afternoon and then I recover a bit until the next day that I feel the same again...do not know what to do...the doctor cut the dose to 25mg, but I still feel weak. Any help is highly appreciated.
Avatar f tn I have tried other beta blockers including metoprolol. Metoprolol did not agree with me. It actually caused my heartbeat to race, or jump quickly, when I would get exerted. I went back to atenolol 25 mg.
