Metoprolol tartrate 25mg

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol tartrate 25mg

toprol

Avatar m tn Yes, Metoprolol Succinate is the timed release. It is also way more expensive than Metoprolol Tartrate. I switched long ago to the latter and saved a lot of money. A dose costs literally pennies. You have to remember to take it twice a day though. I take it at "5 and 5"; at rising, and at dinner, and it's easy to remember. Metoprolol has the same bradycardia effect as Atenolol, so that has to be watched.
Avatar n tn There are two type of Metoprolol, Tartrate and Succinate. With Metoprolol Tartrate, you take it twice a day, usually 12 hours apart. Maximum plasma levels occur about an hour after taking in and it begins to be metabolized. Typically, the dose is reduced 50% every 4 to 5 hours. This is why it's taken twice a day. Metoprolol Succinate is the time release version. It's taken once a day and is slowly metabolized throughout a 24 hr. period.
1933354 tn?1323362834 Keep in mind that when you switched from Toprolol ER (Metoprolol Succinate) to Lopressor (Metoprolol Tartrate), you lost the timed released advantage. If you were taking 25mg. pills of each medication, you are loosing a great deal of the latter drug's effectiveness as the day wears on. The half life of Metoprolol Tartrate is only 3-7 hours. So you must take it at least twice a day for it to be effective the entire 24 hour period. Also 25mg., once a day is a a very small dose.
Avatar m tn Propranolol has a reportedly better shortening effect on Long Q than Metoprolol. Are you taking Metoprolol Tartrate? Metoprolol has a very short half life; typically 5 hours or so. In that time, half of it is metabolized. Physicians usually prescribe Metoprolol to be taken twice a day beca use of his. MetoprololSuccinate is the time release version, and that is taken once a day. In addition 25mg. is an exceedingly small dose.
Avatar f tn I take 25mg of Metoprolol Tartrate and my side effect is very itchiness in the male area. Any suggestions on how to stop the itch?
7510956 tn?1411671417 I was given Metropolol Tartrate and I took the Meds for 2 months (25mg). I then got off them since I felt it could have been anxiety and never had episodes again until last month I began to have them again. I felt afraid as I did the first time and I began taking half of the Metropolol (25mg) each morning to see how I do. This time again I felt the urge to go to the ER but I did not since I know all they are going to do is send me to a cardiologist.
12182312 tn?1427683956 SSRIs like paroxetine are a type of antidepressant that works by increasing the amount of serotonin in the brain, while metoprolol is a beta blocker which works on the heart. What type of metoprolol are you taking. Metoprolol Tartrate or Metoprolol Succinate?
Avatar n tn Metoprolol is available in two forms, fast acting Metoprolol Tartrate (Lopressor), and the time release Metoprolol Succinate (Toprol XL). I used both, and found that side effects are similar; tiredness, weight gain, and a slow pulse. Side effects are more pronounced as the dosage is increased. I had dosages from 25mg to 200mg. daily. Other reported effects are loss of libido, tightness in the chest, itching, irregular breathing, and irregular heartbeat.
Avatar f tn My husband takes metoprolol tartrate. He only has one month of medication left and refuses to go back to the Dr. How can I wean him off of the drug so he doesn't have a heart attack or something?
Avatar m tn Metoprolol comes in two formulations, Metoprolol Tartrate and Metoprolol Succinate. If you were prescribed the Tartrate variety, 50mg, once a day as you stated, then you were on a beta blocker roller coaster with a steep peak followed by a deep valley. Metoprolol has a rather short half life of approximately 6 hours, so in 24 hours, 50mg is nearly completely metabolized. This type should be taken twice a day.
Avatar m tn I think of Metoprolol as the Tic-Tac of beta blockers. Both Metoprolol Succinate (which you're on) and Metoprolol Tartrate (which I'm on) are easily tolerated by most people. A common side effect is the slowing of pulse, and a lowering of blood pressure. You may have to take a few weeks for your body to be accustomed to the medicine, and you may feel a bit washed out. 25mg is a very low dose. I'm on 75mg, and have been as high as 200mg. Dosages can be as high as 400mg per day.
Avatar f tn i take the metoprolol tartrate 25mg one pill a day but i take 1/2 when i wake up and 1/2 at bed time... like every twelve hours basically and it has helped me with my sinus tachy.
Avatar f tn I have been taking 25mg twice a day for almost a year. I was put on Metoprolol Tartrate almost a year ago for palpitations and a high resting heart rate. I'm 29 and my RHR was 90 before taking the betablocker. After a few weeks my HR would bounce between 42-55 while at rest. But then a few months ago I was sitting between 63-72 and now I'm at 81/82 again. Have any of you experienced it going back up after treatment?

Avatar m tn I am on Metoprolol Tartrate 25MG 2 twice a day. Within 30 mins of taking Metoprolol, I feel the effects and I feel great. My BP and it drops to 100/60 and my heart rate drops to 70 or even 65 BPM. I don't have any side effects from this med. That being said, the issue I'm running into is that the Metoprolol doesn't seem to last as long as it should. If I take the Metaprolol at 7am, by the time 3pm comes around, my BP is 135/92 and my heart rate can get as high as 120 BPM.
Avatar f tn Again, on my experience and reading, I believe many may get sufficient medication taking Atenolol once a day, in general this is not the case with Metoprolol Tartrate (normal release). There is a higher cost slow release version of Metoprolol. My interest in Atenolol was more than the half-life of the medication. As you may have read my experience so far confirms the Atenolol is longer lasting in my body... only one sample, others may get different results.
1027737 tn?1253103788 Hi, Can someone tell me what the difference between Metoprolol and Metoprolol Tartrate is? Thank You in advance!
Avatar n tn The SCARY thing is that in Europe they do not have Metoprolol Succinate Extended Release (TOPROL-XL). They only have Metoprolol tartrate, which for me is as bad as having none or even worse. I just moved to Europe and mnow realized this and what am I going to do? I can order Toprol XL from Canada and Turkey and even from Mauritius etc. yet European doctors do not prescribe it. What am I going to DO??
Avatar f tn I am on 25mg of metoprolol for my pvcs, pacs, and svt. I have realized the past week or so it doesn't seem like my medication is easing my symptoms. Is this usual for us to build a tolerance for the medication? Are there other options other than surgery? Or perhaps another beta blocker that I could try? Ideas? Thank you in advance!
1464004 tn?1384135733 ve had a lot of years with Metoprolol, from 25mg. to 200mg. What I feel is my heart is a little slow to respond to demands. Once it gets up to speed, I feel really good for a 63 year old. I found it took a little while to become acclimated to it. But now I feel no side effects except for the heart thing. That can feel like a heavy feeling in the chest until it gets up to speed. I've been on a steady 75mg. now for 3 years.
Avatar m tn The only medication that works from what I tried is metoprolol tartrate. I started off by taking 2x 25mg. After 1 year my cardio let me increase the dosage to 50 mg x2, but everytime I increase the dosage it seems to work perfectly for the first weeks and then again it does not work well anymore. Does body develop tolerance to beta blockers? Do you need to take more and more of this medication to get same effect?
1464004 tn?1384135733 Hi folks! As many of you know I am on metoprolol tartrate 25 MGs b.i.d. for my PSVT. Even though I'm on the lowest dose I do get quite a bit of side effects as far as being overtired and dragging. My cardiologist now has started me on verapamil because my BP has been running high. I'm just afraid this is going to make me even more tired and dragging. Is anybody on this combo and if so how have the side effects been?
Avatar n tn but you must make sure it is the generic for toprol xl because there is metoprolol succinate which is the generic for toprol xl and metoprolol tartrate which is the generic for lopressor. They both work in two different ways so they can not be interchanged at the same dose. I asked this question before toprol xl became a generic.
Avatar n tn I am taking metoprolol tartrate 25mg twice and day because my heart rate was a little high when I saw my doctor 122 bpm. I was on 50mg twice a day, but my doc cut it due to side effects. I'm still suffering side effects, stiff arms, legs, and depression. I am also having some difficulty with my blood sugar, stays low. I feel like all I do is eat, when I asked my cardiologist he said to talk to my general practitioner.
Avatar f tn I would suggest that you try and push through the tired feeling and you have should adjust to the drug. The plasma half life of Metoprolol Tartrate is around 4 hours for most people. This means that every 4 hours, the amount of drug in your blood is diminished by 50%. Some quick math will show you that within 24 hours, there is practically nothing remaining. This also means that there is minimal therapeutic effect as the day wears on.
Avatar f tn Metoprolol Tartrate is meant to be taken USUALLY twice daily, or every 12 hours. It has a fairly short half life so you need to take as such. You could take 25mg every six hours, and it would probably benefit you by smoothing out the amount in your blood. The problem is that we're prone to forgetting to take the dose when scheduled. I supposed you could put an alarm on your phone to ring you every six hours as a reminder. Physicians seem to be ok with dosing every 12 hours.
