Metoprolol side effects medication

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol side effects medication

toprol

Avatar n tn I tried it for a day or two but I could not tolerate the side effects, so stopped. I have had to wait 2 weeks to get an appointment with my Dr. I will see him tomorrow. Meanwhile I now have an ever increasing heart rate and other symptoms mentioned in your website. How do I explain all this to my Dr?
Avatar m tn Metoprolol is like the Tic-Tac of beta blockers. Lots of people take it with little aide effects. I take 75 milligrams per day, but have been on as high as 200 milligrams per day.The dose you have put yourself on is extremely small. Metoprolol's half life is approximately 5 hours. If you do the math, you will see there is very little left of the drug in your blood when you take your next dose.
Avatar m tn Some medications should not be mixed at all, and with others your doctor may want to adjust your dose to decrease the risk of side effects. Consult with your doctor if you are already taking, or intend to take, any of the following: ( and under that Metoprolol was mentioned ) You could bypass your doctor and consult your local chemist if you are worried about the interactions. I think that would be exactly what I would do. Chemists can be very helpful.
Avatar n tn I used both, and found that side effects are similar; tiredness, weight gain, and a slow pulse. Side effects are more pronounced as the dosage is increased. I had dosages from 25mg to 200mg. daily. Other reported effects are loss of libido, tightness in the chest, itching, irregular breathing, and irregular heartbeat. If you have any further questions, I'd be happy to respond based on my experience with the drug.
1464004 tn?1384135733 Has anyone had experience with side effects from metoprolol after using awhile? I've been on a minimal dose (25 mgs bid) for over 6 months now. I didn't seem to have any side effects to speak of until recently. I do also have positional vertigo. Not only has this gotten worse as of late but I have become unsteady on my feet and dizzy quite often. I had to get a ct scan for tumor in my neck and it was just horrible!
Avatar f tn By the way. I am on 75mg per day of Metoprolol, and have been as high as 200mg with no side effects except sluggishness at the high dose. I'm fine at 75mg and have taken it for 10 years, Now that I reread your post, do you think you're having syncope as a result of the medication of because the of Vtach?
20748650 tn?1521032211 I did see some information regarding an interaction between metoprolol and this product, but it pointed to an increase in metoprolol bioavailability, which theoretically shouldn't adversely impact the PVC burden? Anyone have any input or knowledge.. Even similar personal experiences with this?
Avatar f tn ll say 25 mg once a day is a very low dose and hope your get some feed back from others on side effects. It seems they vary greatly person to person. For me 50 mg a day has minimal side effects, but yes, it does cause some fatigue. I am also in permanent atrial fibrillation which may be the real issue for me. I had taken Toprolol when much younger and in normal sinus rhythm (then it too was 50mg SR) and it had no side effects that I can recall, I was still running for exercise.
Avatar f tn Many people report side effects from Metoprolol when they start with this medication. In most people the side effects go away after taking the medication for a few weeks.
Avatar n tn Hello! I am a 32 years old female. I had Open Heart Surgery (Tetrallogy of Fallot) at 7. My records indicate that the "problem" was corrected 100% and they did not use anything artificial. They used a piece of "skin" from within my heart to create a patch between both ventricles. For many years after the surgery I was on Lanoxin/Digoxin. When I was in my teens I started having electrical problems in my heart and they used Dilantin (looooong story). I hate that medicine!
378273 tn?1262097621 If the Amiodione stops the AFib you should be able to run better.... that is if the side effects are not too bad. If you are running while in AFib and you take Metoprolol (in any dose over 50 mg) you should be able to run through anything. Good luck.
Avatar f tn m just curious to see if anyone else out there has experienced Depression/Anxiety as a side effect to Metoprolol? 7 weeks ago, I was put on Metoprolol ER, 50mg a day. As a child, I dealt with Anxiety and phobias on a pretty high level, and went through years of counseling. Over the past few years, I have had everything under control, and been doing beautifully, barely noticing any real issues from my past. I was put on the Metoprolol to help control some issues with my heart.
Avatar f tn Hello... I am not familiar with the side effects you mention "weight gain and hair loss" resulting from this Betablocker. Also, I would be interested to know where you read or heard that once you start taking this medication, you are on it for life. That isn't a true statement. It is true that when you are taking any form of Betablocker, it isn't something that can be stopped abruptly.
Avatar n tn In addition to the 25mg of metoprolol 2 Xs daily, I take a medication called spironolacto (50mgs 2Xs daily) It is an old medication and I have taken it along time with no side effects.. It is a Potassium sparing dieuritic... uhhhh made from Horse Urinie .... the pharmacist tellls me!!! anyway it really works good for me.... no side effects and keeps my BP around 100-110/65-70... works great... Avatar m tn s who prefer their patients to give medication a try. If medication fails to maintain NSR, or the side effects of the medication are intolerable...Ablation is then given as an option. I found an article in the Cardiosource Amer Journal of Cardiology discussing this very subject. I will paste the link here for you. You will have to copy and paste this to your browser to view site...Best of luck to you.:) http://www.cardiosource.com/expertopinions/hottopics/article.asp?
Avatar m tn Hi, if you had a stent to the only blockage in your heart, then you can tell the Doctor after 3 months you don't wish to take a beta blocker any more. Some patients just can't put up with them because of side effects or whatever. I have no idea why, but it's just an automatic thing to prescribe beta blockers. If you have no other blockages and your heart has no damage, then it's plain to see that there is no need to play with your heart using meds.
Avatar m tn of BB, but I can say Toprol (Metoprolol), which is taken at a much higher does, usually 50 mg or higher, can produce the side effects you describe. Some of us adjust to them over time. I take Metoprolol at a 100 mg per day level, and may go higher. In the beginning it cause a too low BP and caused some dizziness when I stood up too quickly (or just didn't take time to stand up). These side effects have passed, my BP in now near normal.
Avatar f tn He was suggesting it had fewer sexual side effects. Maybe the Cialis will be enough to override any sexual side effects from the Metoprolol so I won't have to switch, but still curious whether I should ditch it for the Cardizem to at least try it. I don't have high blood pressure, just tachycardia and the metoprolol really helps keep that in check. Should I just stay on metoprolol and try the cialis and see how it works or should I try the cardizem?
Avatar n tn How do metoprolol, isosorb, and benazepril together, differ from, norvasc and lanoxin.
Avatar m tn I am on Metoprolol 100 mg/day. I feel good no side effects at all, never had. It was fine from the beginning. Before I was on Coreg . Same, it was fine. I do not think you have any side effects from medications at all. You do have anxiety. You should work on that. There are healthier ways to work on that instead of taking prescription drugs. It can harm you many ways on the long run.
Avatar f tn I need to know if I ought to try to wean myself off this medication, cause the side effects are more bothersome than the pvcs were. Im miserable. thanks for any comments anyone has.
