Metoprolol side effects lopressor

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol side effects lopressor

toprol

Avatar n tn I used both, and found that side effects are similar; tiredness, weight gain, and a slow pulse. Side effects are more pronounced as the dosage is increased. I had dosages from 25mg to 200mg. daily. Other reported effects are loss of libido, tightness in the chest, itching, irregular breathing, and irregular heartbeat. If you have any further questions, I'd be happy to respond based on my experience with the drug.
Avatar f tn After my heart attack and surgery I was put on lopressor and amiodarone for heart irregularities. Because of the bad side effects of amiodarone I was taken off of that and also my beta blocker got changed. My beta blocker was changed to metoprolol tartate ..25mg twice a day. It didn't take long before I noticed that I was having pvc's again (hadn't had while on lopressor and amiodarone) and it has progressed to where it is noticeable every day ......all day long.
1464004 tn?1384135733 Hi folks! As many of you know I am on metoprolol tartrate 25 MGs b.i.d. for my PSVT. Even though I'm on the lowest dose I do get quite a bit of side effects as far as being overtired and dragging. My cardiologist now has started me on verapamil because my BP has been running high. I'm just afraid this is going to make me even more tired and dragging. Is anybody on this combo and if so how have the side effects been?
Avatar f tn I was on a low dose of metoprolol for about a month. It slowed my hearbeat down to the 40's (I have bradycardia anyhow), which is too slow. I dropped it cold turkey, having been told by my cardiologist at Mayo Clinic that I could do that with no adverse effects. He was right: no bad effects. I feel fine. Maybe your problems are due to something else???
1933354 tn?1323362834 Keep in mind that when you switched from Toprolol ER (Metoprolol Succinate) to Lopressor (Metoprolol Tartrate), you lost the timed released advantage. If you were taking 25mg. pills of each medication, you are loosing a great deal of the latter drug's effectiveness as the day wears on. The half life of Metoprolol Tartrate is only 3-7 hours. So you must take it at least twice a day for it to be effective the entire 24 hour period. Also 25mg., once a day is a a very small dose.
Avatar m tn Metoprolol is like the Tic-Tac of beta blockers. Lots of people take it with little aide effects. I take 75 milligrams per day, but have been on as high as 200 milligrams per day.The dose you have put yourself on is extremely small. Metoprolol's half life is approximately 5 hours. If you do the math, you will see there is very little left of the drug in your blood when you take your next dose.
672586 tn?1280933658 Make sure you see a dentist at least twice a year and make it known you are on ccb. Side effects can occur in some people where gums are affected, but in my case two of my molars crumbled.
Avatar n tn Increased levels of adrenaline are thought to play a role, often caused by caffeine, exercise or anxiety. Metoprolol, commonly known as Lopressor is a beta blocker. This medication is used in the treatment of high blood pressure, angina (chest pain, usually caused by lack of oxygen to the heart due to clogged arteries, which can cause PVCs), and heart attack. I've taken Metoprolol for 6 years, and find it ineffective for treating PVC's, at least for me.
Avatar f tn I have tried other beta blockers including metoprolol. Metoprolol did not agree with me. It actually caused my heartbeat to race, or jump quickly, when I would get exerted. I went back to atenolol 25 mg.
Avatar m tn http://www.drugs.com/drug-interactions/celexa-with-inderal-679-335-1956-1266.html As both Metoprolol Tartrate and Citaprolam are metabolized in the liver, the Citaprolam can increase the effects of the Metoprolol Tartrate causing "bradycardia, hypotension, and complete heart block following the addition of a SSRI, subsequently requiring discontinuation of one or both agents and/or institution of a permanent pacemaker.
Avatar m tn I take atenolol 25 mg for fast heart rate and while in ER, they gave me 50 mg Lopressor (which I believe is metoprolol), one time dose of Lopressor. About a day or two later, I woke up in middle of night with elevated blood pressure and somewhat tachycardia. The blood pressure was higher than what I was used to and I attributed it to not receiving any more Lopressor. It took me about 5 days to not feel affect of Lopressor, and I only took one dose. BP hit 158/100, high for me.
443862 tn?1237999439 When you are hyperthyoid (you are), night sweats is common. Vivid dreams sounds so much nicer than nightmares. Got to make the side-effects sound as pleasant as possible. The "vivid dreams" may subside before you go off the Metrapolol. What is Metrapolol? When I Google search it, everything is in spanish or japanese. Do you mean metoprolol? That's a Beta Blocker to control heart rate. When do you see the doc again? Are you going to be given something for the hyperthyroidism?
Avatar n tn The cardiezem did not seem to help as I had taken a dose 1 hour before my afib actually began. I was struggling with side effects from Cardiezem and asked to have my medicine changed, so I was put on 50 mg Metroprolol Tartrate per day, but began to suffer some nasty side effects--headaches, dizziness, nausea, abdominal cramps, lucid dreams, runny nose, and my heart rate dropped from 75-85 bpm to 45 to 55 bpm's depending on what I was doing.
Avatar m tn Addressing only Metoprolol: One of the side effects this particular beta block is bradycardia. I was put on this med after complaining to my PCP about an elevated pulse during the night(not tachycardia). He kept increasing the dosage until I was up to 150mg/day, It slowed my pulse alright, but it also slowed my hearts response to needs for increased output. It felt like a large rock on my chest when I tried to do any physical activities.
20748650 tn?1521032211 I did see some information regarding an interaction between metoprolol and this product, but it pointed to an increase in metoprolol bioavailability, which theoretically shouldn't adversely impact the PVC burden? Anyone have any input or knowledge.. Even similar personal experiences with this?
589617 tn?1218719782 I take metoprolol (aka lopressor) for PVC's and occasional SVT. It has been good for me....my PVC's are not gone, but they are not as "forceful" and therefore are easier to ignore. The SVT is very infrequent for me in the first place, so I can't say that the metoprolol has had anything to do with the fact that I haven't had any for nearly 1.5 years, but I'm not going to stop the drugs to find out :-).
Avatar n tn Since I live in Iowa (low of -24 degrees the other day), it was a side effects that really bothered me. Now I am on 240 mg of Diltiazem and no side effects but it is not controlling the rapid pulse rate very well. My husband, who has A-fib, saw a mention on one of the discussion boards he reads of Beta Blockers lowering the levels of Melatonin in some patients and causing sleep disturbances.
Avatar f tn Regarding Lopressor. The generic name for this drug is Metoprolol. It is widely prescribed and easily tolerated. I would not fear taking this medication. Like myself, many of us here are on It and have been so for years. Regarding your episodes. It may be very possible that you experienced PAT. It's also possible that you had an SVT episode. In each case, Valsalva is often effective in converting it. In most cases, these episodes are not life threatening.
9870921 tn?1481258967 Following abrupt cessation of therapy with certain beta-blocking agents, exacerbations of angina pectoris and, in some cases, myocardial infarction have occurred. When discontinuing chronically administered Lopressor (metoprolol tartrate) , particularly in patients with ischemic heart disease, the dosage should be gradually reduced over a period of 1-2 weeks and the patient should be carefully monitored.
1464004 tn?1384135733 Has anyone had experience with side effects from metoprolol after using awhile? I've been on a minimal dose (25 mgs bid) for over 6 months now. I didn't seem to have any side effects to speak of until recently. I do also have positional vertigo. Not only has this gotten worse as of late but I have become unsteady on my feet and dizzy quite often. I had to get a ct scan for tumor in my neck and it was just horrible!
Avatar n tn All was finew/ the Metoprolol (no side effects) until late July when I started losing LOTS of hair (300-400 hairs per shampooing; "normal" shedding of 75-125 when not shampooing) and now my previously thick, shiny hair is thinning rapidly and dull. My eyelashes are also falling out, but not as rapidly as the hair on my head. (I also started having insomnia and leg cramps at night.)My MD is in the process of weaning me from the drug - 12.
Avatar m tn I am a 45 year old male and went through ascending aortic aneurysm surgery a year ago. I am currently on lopressor 50mg(25mg in the morning and 25mg at night). Lately, I noticed that my heart rate stays around the 50s due to effect of the lopressor but my blood pressure is ok. I've monitored my pulse rate and blood pressure on 25mg of lopressor/day and it seems ok. Should I stay on 25mg/day? Ps I had my surgery in the US but I live in Africa.
Avatar n tn but you must make sure it is the generic for toprol xl because there is metoprolol succinate which is the generic for toprol xl and metoprolol tartrate which is the generic for lopressor. They both work in two different ways so they can not be interchanged at the same dose. I asked this question before toprol xl became a generic.
Avatar f tn I take metoprolol and I have had hardly any side effects. It did make me alittle tired but I got use to it. Everybody is different when it comes to meds and side effects. For expample musikbox could not tolerate metoprolol and was switched to atenolol. For me it was the opposite. I could not function on atenolol and had to come off of it and I am having no problems with metoprolol.
Avatar n tn I tried it for a day or two but I could not tolerate the side effects, so stopped. I have had to wait 2 weeks to get an appointment with my Dr. I will see him tomorrow. Meanwhile I now have an ever increasing heart rate and other symptoms mentioned in your website. How do I explain all this to my Dr?
