Metoprolol side effects hair loss

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol side effects hair loss

toprol

Hello... I am not familiar with the side effects you mention "weight gain and hair loss" resulting from this Betablocker. Also, I would be interested to know where you read or heard that once you start taking this medication, you are on it for life. That isn't a true statement. It is true that when you are taking any form of Betablocker, it isn't something that can be stopped abruptly.
Hi I'm taking this medicine for more than a year or may b nearly 2 years yes I have a lot of side effects one of them is hair loss My hairs were longer than my spinal cord and thick I have dizzy spells funny feelings inside chest tiredness continuesly low BP But what can we do? My skip beats scares me a lot so I ve to take this medication I'm on 2.
All was finew/ the Metoprolol (no side effects) until late July when I started losing LOTS of hair (300-400 hairs per shampooing; "normal" shedding of 75-125 when not shampooing) and now my previously thick, shiny hair is thinning rapidly and dull. My eyelashes are also falling out, but not as rapidly as the hair on my head. (I also started having insomnia and leg cramps at night.)My MD is in the process of weaning me from the drug - 12.
metoprolol side effects.... well, I guess they are real, but you learn to live with it. The side effects are easier to live with than a resting rate of 150 and then going up and up from there. When they were trying to control rate with JUST beta blockers... I took 200 of propranolol and 300 of metoprolol and occasional 100 of labetalol here and there. It helped but it worked a LOT better when other classes of drugs were added. Since the point is to slow you down, it generally SLOWS you down.
I used both, and found that side effects are similar; tiredness, weight gain, and a slow pulse. Side effects are more pronounced as the dosage is increased. I had dosages from 25mg to 200mg. daily. Other reported effects are loss of libido, tightness in the chest, itching, irregular breathing, and irregular heartbeat. If you have any further questions, I'd be happy to respond based on my experience with the drug.
beta blocker aka toprol - same drug ! lots of side effects from this drug - more side effects happen if your on the Generic from ! You named all listed side effects for this drug - the stool issue is diffrent so could be a interaction with another drug your on ? it sounds as though your not tollerating this drug at all . and should be changed to something diffrent. with less side effects - you could be allergic to it ?
Hair loss is sometimes a side effect of taking beta blockers. Not sure if there's a way to stop that other than changing medications. You have normal sinus rhythm but it's fast? How fast? If it's consistently over 100, you should talk to your cardio about that. It's not normal or healthy. Your meds may need to be adjusted.
I was on Metoprolol for 4.5 months, but noticed excessive hair loss about 3.5 months taking the drug. I was weaned off of it over a 2 week period (was only taking 12.5mg 2x per day - a lose dose) b/c of the hair loss, insomnia, nocturnalleg cramps, etc. My cardiologist did not want to say the the beta blocker was the cause of the hair loss... but then admitted that some women had experienced hair thinning. (I'll say!).
I've taken as much as 200 mg, but only for short periods. Not hair loss then either. I think some side effects, like hair loss, are frequently temporary...hope that's your situation.
(I had my most significant weight gain 9 years ago when I quit smoking!) My hair is just the same as always - and I haven't had any side effects whatsoever apart from the calming down of the palps which in turn really calms me down. Hope this helps!
Most if not all beta blockers have the known side effect as Hair loss -thinning hair pattern baldness - that they say will reverse, once off the meds ! however if you have to be on blood pressure med, check the side effects first ! as hair loss or thinning hair - may be listed as a side effect . I am on verapamil now - still have thinning hair - there is no history of baldness in my whole family (both sides) My Doctor tells me , Hey being Bald is in style now!!
However, this drug may reduce blood flow to the hands and feet, causing them to feel cold. Smoking may worsen this effect. Some side effects include: symptoms of a very slow heartbeat (e.g.
Both replies from you to the posted queries have basically steered away from the possibility of Metoprolol being the cause of the hair loss. If you don't know about this side-effect, there are plenty of places online that you can find to confirm the link between this medication and hair falling out.
I was leary too when I first started taking it, I read that one of the side effects was hair loss. What??!! But so far, I've still got all my hair. ;) I hope it it works well for you and your able to get some reliefe from the PVC's. Take care!
Also, is tapazole the name brand drug to the generic named methimazole or should I switch to tapazole for more effective remission rate? Which causes less itchiness or the loss of my hair or when will those side effects subside after a month of taking these ATD's?? As far as the food question can anyone help me on that? What can I have or not have? Thanks a bunch for listening to me.
Stopped MMI after 2 weeks due 2 itching, minor hair loss, was scared, wasn’t able 2 stop beta blocker same way. Mention previous side effects experiencing with MMI, new endo suggest I try PTU, I said no way, said I would have to take 4 or 5 doses of PTU to equate potentcy of dosage or two of Methimazole, sense 2 me. Endo got NASTY, dismissive, told resident 2 document my chart due 2 patient’s foolishness 2 start me Metoprolol 25 MG 2 tabs twice daily 100 MG Methimazole 20 MG daily Dr.
Yes, I'm having classic symptoms including a resting heart rate of 120 when not on Metoprolol (108 now - working to get it below 90), heart rate of 140 when I walk up one flight of stairs, shortness of breath, diarrhea, dripping sweats, hair loss, etc. This is why I am on meds. I've only been on meds for a week so I'm not sure how meds are affecting my levels as of yet. It just seems that many people take meds for a long time and then ultimately end up having RAI or a TT.

I had heart palpitations, chest pain, lightheadedness, headaches, body aches, confusion, hair loss, you name it. I had test after test including thyroid, which came back normal. Low blood pressure also is common in hypothyroid patients, I could be off base, but you have alot of the symptoms, it's worth a shot, I too, saw cardiologists, and my heart was always pounding a million times a minute, cause of my palpitations, but all other tests were normal.

When we reduced his aspirin he started to have more side effects from the metoprolol. Now he is complaining that his nipples are stinging. I think its because metoprolol slows the heart from pumping blood to the samll blood vessles. He also gained about 6 pounds in a week. Its not in his ankles its in his middle and in his face. Also developed red blotches on his stomache. Face gets beat red on any exhertion. This all started when we reduced the aspirin. He is exhausted all the time.
My Question is : who has problems with being on Toprol xl (side effects ) so on.. or am I the only walking zombie on this stuff ? please let me know im not alone ! im weaning off it ,due to adverse side effects and a few unwilling Doctors who wont help me ! get off it . or even change it to another drug... so to say im at the end of my rope here !! yes the sky is falling !
Beta blocker, like Inderal, can cause hair loss ( I'm obsessed with hair loss right now, since I'm experiencing it myself right now, sorry, lol) But, it's like with everything, individual. And not permanent. So I'll say give it a try! It must be exhausting for you with a constant racing pulse.
I have heard of all sorts of weird reactions to these drugs, with people having hair loss and of course just end up switching back to the Name-Brand Toprol XL and being FINE afterwards. So could this also have caused my seizure-like spell? And WAS it a seizure?? Or just something coincidental? It sure as hell seems like a seizure (more Petit Mal in origin), but was it? I have read somewhere of people with panic attacks and panic disorder having seizure like spells.
Well, everyone ages -- there's just no getting around it. We produce less hair, and the individual hairs we do grow are thinner. Plus, older hair is more prone to dryness and breakage, so be sure to take that into account in your daily hair-care regime. - Over-processing: Coloring, bleaching, perming and straightening, if done improperly, can cause hair to break off or fall out, and you'll have to wait for healthy hair to grow back in.
Studies are showing that the statin drugs don't really protect the heart, but as we know they can hurt the liver. My husband was on them for a while and the side effects were so bad, he quit taking them. His cholesterol levels are high, but he has no symptoms and he's otherwise healthy.
I AM STILL SO UPSET about my hair loss from the Beta Blockers. I never knew hair loss is one of the side effects of Metoprolol that I am taking. I take 25 mg 2 times daily. Doesn't seem like much compared to others, but, it is enough to make me feel fatigued all the time. I can live with the fatigue, but, the HAIR LOSS has really got me worried. I talked to oneof the primary docs here at Mayo last week about this and she is looking into it for me.
But, the side effect of any beta blocker is loss a hair and for me it was a significant loss of hair. Over the years this side effect became worse. At the age of 32 I decided to have the ablation after consulting an EP specialist in Nashville. He was supposed to be one of the best in the field and I felt very confident with him. The ablation was a success in terms of my SVT condition.
Heart pounding, increased dizziness, awful balance problems, unbearable headaches. The side effects were getting worse each day to the point I could just barely function at all. Getting out of bed was a chore. So I stopped them competely on day 14. That was 4 days ago. Called the Dr. She told me ok to stop them, wait until I feel like I used to then go back on them at half-dose. She said I'm a strange case.-lol.
