Metoprolol side effects cough

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol side effects cough

Avatar m tn My palpitations and tachycardia settled a while back after being aggressively treated for iron deficiency anaemia. I would never have taken metoprolol if I knew the side effects I would experience. I wasn't given a choice or information. Hospital put me on it. I have never been so sick in my life or had so much pain.
1933354 tn?1323366434 I saw that side effects for this med consitst of heart failure and heart block. I just want to make sure these are not side effects of allergies, but rather possible heart block from my med!? I am 24 years old, have had more heart tests then most people who need it on this site. Echo, Stress tests, EKGs, Holters, all look good, just periods of inappropraite sinus tachycardia. Any input would be great, since I have started this new med, my pulse is very calm and normal again.
Avatar m tn My mother 61 had angioplasty done on march 2009 with 2 DES LM & RCA. She has dry coughing some ten times a day. She is on plavix 75 metoprolol 50 rosuval 10 & ramipril 2.5. This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/253089'>After Angioplasty</a>.
Avatar n tn However, this drug may reduce blood flow to the hands and feet, causing them to feel cold. Smoking may worsen this effect. Some side effects include: symptoms of a very slow heartbeat (e.g.
Avatar n tn While both achieving the same goal, they do it by different mechanisms and have different side effects. Beta-blockers (metoprolol) block receptors on blood vessels and the heart that are affected by adrenaline. Ramipril is in a class of medications called ace inhibitors. ACE inhibitors affect an enzyme produced by the kidneys that affects blood pressure. Sice the medications are different they have different side effects.
Avatar f tn like, side effects? I havent really noticed too much so far, and today is day 3 of taking the new stuff. Im thinking of things I might like to take with bout antacids? ( Alka seltzer, maalox, etc) or pain meds like Motrin, etc...I dont really take cold meds because it brings on palpitations... but ANY info about these two new meds to me would be helpful. ANyone ever had bloodpressure that high???
Avatar n tn It just goes to show that a more thorough determination of root cause is in order before placing stents or doing bypass surgery. I have spent a lot of money replacing good parts on my car because my mechanic misdiagnosed the problem. Unfortunately stents are forever and can lead to more procedures and bypass surgery. Lives are destroyed by careless and clueless cardiologists. The additional symptoms that you have now may be caused by drugs.
Avatar n tn has put me on Toprol-xl 25 gm a day. What is this medicine for and the side effects. My blood pressure is fine so is the heart beat.Have high chlorestol, runs in the family, had quad by-passes 21 yrs ago, am on zocor 80 grams a day.
Avatar n tn In the US - Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088. In Canada - Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to Health Canada at 1-866-234-2345. PRECAUTIONS: Before taking metoprolol, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to other beta-blockers (e.g., atenolol, propranolol); or if you have any other allergies.
Avatar m tn But at this point making sure the tinnitus doesn't get worse is a major concern as it has changed significantly for the worse, and also getting to the bottom of the rapid heart beat in the middle of the night. In going back over the side effects of coreg I also noticed that sexual function can be affected as well, and that seems to be yet another negative change for me.
Avatar m tn I'm not familiar with some of the tests/meds you've had/are on, so I can't address those. Is TSH the only thyroid related hormone you are being tested for? TSH is a pituitary hormone and does not correlate with hypothyroid symptoms. It should never be used, alone, to diagnose or treat a thyroid condition. You should also be getting tested for Free T3 and Free T4, which are the active thyroid hormones.
Avatar n tn I cough almost non-stop when I'm having the pvc's because my heart beats so hard when I'm having them. It has helped...but side effects are worse than they are at this point. Anyone else experience the violent ones? What does your doctor do?
Avatar f tn I tried proton pump inhibitors, but they didn't help and I didn't tolerate the side effects. The cough only seems to come after I have had the pain. a reflex type of cough. nonproductive. almost like my lungs are filled with fluid (from aspiration). I did see a pulmonology spec and she ruled out asthma. could I be having a problem with my valves that didn't show up during tests? like when i am running? when I try to run hard (like in a race) I have skipped beats or PVC's?
Avatar m tn I do notice small things when it comes to health issues but i've noticed now that i'm back on my adhd medicine my heart rate tends to always be over/around the 100bpm range resting, and with exercise can get up to 205bpm(that happens anyway with exercise though if I don't take my metoprolol).
Avatar n tn clonidine must be titrated off or else you can get a rebound effect on your hypertension. Side effects of out of control hypertension include myocardial infarction, stroke and heart failure. Not taking medicine or trying to control your blood pressure should not be an option. Side effects of the medicines are available on medincine sheets from your pharmacy and are too numerous to list. Most often the side effects are rare. Yes.
Avatar m tn I just took 2nd dose and 2-1/2 hours later feel a bit light headed maybe due to mild headache and lack of fluid intake. This drug has a ton of side effects which scares the crap out of me. One being anxiety which I already have. I'm wondering if there is a natural way to get heart back into shape like completely cut caffeine exercise more stress less or foods perhaps? If anyone has a recommendation I'll for sure look into it. I'm 38 with 4 kids and don't want to be on meds the rest of my life.
Avatar f tn In reading all the possible side effects, I am now scared to death of taking the atenolol. When I have the sinus tach my heart rate is around 140 and it lasts for hours. The SVT episodes are isolated and only last less than a minute. I usually cough and they seem to go away. My bp is normally 110/50. Is this atenolol going to help, or do I just put up with the tach and svt. I have been to 2 doctors and they both said that my heart is structurally fine.
179332 tn?1273250959 I have tried BP meds twice now in a period of four or so years....Cozar, namely since my Dr. says they have the least side effects.....after I cant stand the side effects maybe two or three months into taking, I quit....and then have about three months of horrible after effects, namely anxiety, ear problems, head pressure etc., I am now going to go the holistic route and see what if anything I can do to get back to normal. and of course my blood pressure went up when I quit the meds.

Avatar n tn If I understand your mother's condition, she had a low heart rate of 30 bpm and a pacemaker was implanted, but now she has SOB that is being treated with a change of medication? When taking metoprolol, side effects may occur, such as nausea, tiredness, shortness of breath, or slow heart rate...metoprolol may not correct SOB! The pacemaker has corrected bradycardia!?
Avatar f tn It is produced by sanofi aventis and is supposed to be as effective as Amiodarone only without the very toxic side effects. Jerry this is my 3rd arrhythmic medication I first tried various dosages of Sotolol which lasted about a year to 18 months and after failing that I tried Tikosyn or Dofedilide which only lasted about 60 days. So this is the last stop and if this doesn't do the trick I will probably undergo a third cardiac ablation. But I am hoping this works long term.
Avatar f tn He has also changed my levothyroxine (which I have been taking for over 20 years). I have had some side effects like dizziness but I suffer from vertigo, which I so wonderfully acquired years ago, (I'm my own amusement ride)! Anyway, I had cold feet and nose, circulation problems but that has seemed to stop. I went to a Cardio doc, and am scheduled for Echo. My question is now I have yellow poop, although colorful, I am concerned.
544292 tn?1268886268 So apparently HP needs me to rest, and not work and whatever the effects of that; I am still clean! I am still NOT on Tramadol! I said it before. Nothing is more important to me than being clean of this ****. I am weak like a kitten. I am drinking water and distracting myself and soon, when I get energy I need to find the inhaler that I use in the middle of the night. I have everything I need. VICKS. Steamers, liquid Vicks. Z-Pac. This morning I woke up and could barely speak.
1438125 tn?1283987628 hes got me on potassium supplement because my potass was a bit on the low side...hes got me, now, on 200 mg of Metoprolol per! He insists that i not stop working out ( I am quite overweight but started a workout at the local fitness center where they monitor people in March and have lost weight AND strengthened my heart) on days when the palps are bad...god its hard to make myself get on that treadmill when my heart is jumping and thumping!!!! kinda like you.
Avatar f tn Im not on meds choose not to be, they wanted me to go on metropropol small dose im afraid of the side effects. I just dont know how to get past this fear i think of it everyday.
Avatar n tn My doc prescribed me Sotalol. I stupidly read the side effects and I am scared of taking it now (big baby!!). But, to be honest, my palps are really worse now, kind of everyday. So I might start taking it. However, I have noticed that when I play football on Sat mornings with the lads, I do not get any palps during the whole day! I have also noticed the following: 1) My palps often happen when my heart wants to notch up a gear - i.e. if I am watching T.
Avatar n tn Eventually, the side effects of metoprolol became worse than the PVCs, though. As the side effects of the metoprolol got worse, it also seemed like the effectiveness of it in controlling my PVCs became less. In the end, there was no good reason to continue taking the metoprolol. Drinking alcohol makes my PVCs worse afterward. The next morning when I wake up, my heart feels like it's skipping a lot of beats.
Avatar n tn The first question I would ask concerning a choking sensation while taking a beta blocker is a bronchospasm or if the patient is asthmatic, in general beta blockers are contraindicated in asthmatic patients though some persons that have asthma do well with no side effects on beta blockers, though they should be monitored closely , as far as i know metoprolol and atenolol are cardioselective and are least likely to exacerbate the symptoms of asthma in a asthmatic patient though all beta blockers
Avatar f tn I didn't see the Dr to ask him about it because he was on vacation, but I also didn't think to ask him of any possible side effects. When I contact the office, I'll post any remarks he has to say about it.
3097131 tn?1357088481 Neither of these strategies considers a recent trial showing that -blockers do not prevent the development of varices and are associated with signi´Čücant side effects, nor do they consider endoscopic variceal ligation as an alternative prophylactic therapy. Until prospective studies validate these approaches, screening EGD is still the recommended approach. The frequency of surveillance endoscopies in patients with no or small varices depends on their natural history.
