Metoprolol side effects

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol side effects

toprol

Avatar n tn I used both, and found that side effects are similar; tiredness, weight gain, and a slow pulse. Side effects are more pronounced as the dosage is increased. I had dosages from 25mg to 200mg. daily. Other reported effects are loss of libido, tightness in the chest, itching, irregular breathing, and irregular heartbeat. If you have any further questions, I'd be happy to respond based on my experience with the drug.
20748650 tn?1521032211 I did see some information regarding an interaction between metoprolol and this product, but it pointed to an increase in metoprolol bioavailability, which theoretically shouldn't adversely impact the PVC burden? Anyone have any input or knowledge.. Even similar personal experiences with this?
Avatar m tn Metoprolol is like the Tic-Tac of beta blockers. Lots of people take it with little aide effects. I take 75 milligrams per day, but have been on as high as 200 milligrams per day.The dose you have put yourself on is extremely small. Metoprolol's half life is approximately 5 hours. If you do the math, you will see there is very little left of the drug in your blood when you take your next dose.
1464004 tn?1384135733 Has anyone had experience with side effects from metoprolol after using awhile? I've been on a minimal dose (25 mgs bid) for over 6 months now. I didn't seem to have any side effects to speak of until recently. I do also have positional vertigo. Not only has this gotten worse as of late but I have become unsteady on my feet and dizzy quite often. I had to get a ct scan for tumor in my neck and it was just horrible!
Avatar n tn I tried it for a day or two but I could not tolerate the side effects, so stopped. I have had to wait 2 weeks to get an appointment with my Dr. I will see him tomorrow. Meanwhile I now have an ever increasing heart rate and other symptoms mentioned in your website. How do I explain all this to my Dr?
Avatar f tn He was suggesting it had fewer sexual side effects. Maybe the Cialis will be enough to override any sexual side effects from the Metoprolol so I won't have to switch, but still curious whether I should ditch it for the Cardizem to at least try it. I don't have high blood pressure, just tachycardia and the metoprolol really helps keep that in check. Should I just stay on metoprolol and try the cialis and see how it works or should I try the cardizem?
1464004 tn?1384135733 Hi folks! As many of you know I am on metoprolol tartrate 25 MGs b.i.d. for my PSVT. Even though I'm on the lowest dose I do get quite a bit of side effects as far as being overtired and dragging. My cardiologist now has started me on verapamil because my BP has been running high. I'm just afraid this is going to make me even more tired and dragging. Is anybody on this combo and if so how have the side effects been?
Avatar f tn By the way. I am on 75mg per day of Metoprolol, and have been as high as 200mg with no side effects except sluggishness at the high dose. I'm fine at 75mg and have taken it for 10 years, Now that I reread your post, do you think you're having syncope as a result of the medication of because the of Vtach?
Avatar f tn I take metoprolol and I have had hardly any side effects. It did make me alittle tired but I got use to it. Everybody is different when it comes to meds and side effects. For expample musikbox could not tolerate metoprolol and was switched to atenolol. For me it was the opposite. I could not function on atenolol and had to come off of it and I am having no problems with metoprolol.
Avatar f tn Hello everyone. I had sexual side effects from taking Metoprolol Tartrate. Are there any BP meds that I can take that do not cause these effects? I have heard of some that I could speak to my doctor about. But I wanted to ask here to see what advice I get from this forum. Thanks so much.
Avatar n tn Hair loss is sometimes a side effect of taking beta blockers. Not sure if there's a way to stop that other than changing medications. You have normal sinus rhythm but it's fast? How fast? If it's consistently over 100, you should talk to your cardio about that. It's not normal or healthy. Your meds may need to be adjusted.
Avatar m tn Has anyone developed Arthritis like side effects? I started taking Metoprolol (25 mg) in Feb of 2012 and suddenly in August my right hip began to develop severe pain. I did not relate this to being a side effect so had tests which showed "minor Arthritis and small tear in Labrum. The joint specialist started physical therapy and the hip finally got well enough to get off crutches and only use a cane by December.
Avatar m tn of BB, but I can say Toprol (Metoprolol), which is taken at a much higher does, usually 50 mg or higher, can produce the side effects you describe. Some of us adjust to them over time. I take Metoprolol at a 100 mg per day level, and may go higher. In the beginning it cause a too low BP and caused some dizziness when I stood up too quickly (or just didn't take time to stand up). These side effects have passed, my BP in now near normal.
Avatar f tn This works well to control my tachy....but, has bad side effects of anxiety, restlessness and agitation. I lookd up Bystolic..and it has none of these type side effects listed. I was going to ask my doctor to change to Bystolic. Has anyone here had any success in changing over to Bystolic from Metoprolol ?
Avatar m tn I am on Metoprolol 100 mg/day. I feel good no side effects at all, never had. It was fine from the beginning. Before I was on Coreg . Same, it was fine. I do not think you have any side effects from medications at all. You do have anxiety. You should work on that. There are healthier ways to work on that instead of taking prescription drugs. It can harm you many ways on the long run.
1464004 tn?1384135733 If your BP is on the low side, the effects you feel when standing or bending over are a common side effect from many beta blockers. How much Metoprolol per day are you taking? This drug will slow your heart down, and make it slower to respond to high level of respiration and physical output. I had to adjust my training regime once I began it. I warm-up longer than I used to, and start slowly.
Avatar f tn I now take 50 mg once a day, and I take it after my evening meal. I think it still has some unwanted side effects, but not too bad, no more dizziness when I stand up quickly, well not most of the time. I believe Metoprolol, like all/most medications, are tolerated differently by the using population. Some have little or no side effects, some just can't take it. This is something that will have to be worked out for your specific case to get the best results There are alternatives.
Avatar n tn Those are questions you must discuss with your doctor - what doctor put you on your heart medications?
Avatar m tn I am not aware of tight calves and joint pains being common side effects of metoprolol. Checking other electrolyte levels, specifically the calcium and sodium levels, should also be done. These options should be discussed with your personal physician. This answer is not intended as and does not substitute for medical advice - the information presented is for patients education only. Avatar n tn Actually, the question is best answered by your doctor. It would depend on any other medications in addition to Metopropol, health conditions, and how much alcohol you'd be drinking. You might also ask your pharmacist. The following site offered this caution, in part. You can visit the site for the complete answer on food and alcohol, but your doctor would be the best reference. http://www.drugs.com/drug_interactions.
941118 tn?1312281926 I have the same experience with Toprol and Metoprolol. I have gone from Toprol SR to zero in one step, I had not noticeable side effect on or off the medication. I was in NSR at the time, lapsed into AFib and was told to just stop the Toprol. Later I have used the generic up to 200 mg a day, that made me dizzy-prone due to very low blood pressure.
Avatar f tn ll say 25 mg once a day is a very low dose and hope your get some feed back from others on side effects. It seems they vary greatly person to person. For me 50 mg a day has minimal side effects, but yes, it does cause some fatigue. I am also in permanent atrial fibrillation which may be the real issue for me. I had taken Toprolol when much younger and in normal sinus rhythm (then it too was 50mg SR) and it had no side effects that I can recall, I was still running for exercise.
Avatar m tn Although he told me it was a benign drug I have many side effects including fatigue and drowsiness, some dizzyness, and loss of sex drive and ED problems. The side effects were really hampering my ability to function throughout the day. About 3 weeks ago i tapered off metoprolol of which my last dose was 1 1/2 weeks ago. everything went fine but now am having issues with blood pressure spikes, chest pains. tachy-cardia spells and dizzyness. I really feel crummy.
Avatar f tn Hello... I am not familiar with the side effects you mention "weight gain and hair loss" resulting from this Betablocker. Also, I would be interested to know where you read or heard that once you start taking this medication, you are on it for life. That isn't a true statement. It is true that when you are taking any form of Betablocker, it isn't something that can be stopped abruptly.
