9043033 tn?1401346653 //www.empr.com/major-recall-of-metoprolol-er-tablets/article/347174/ Wockhardt announced a recall of 109,744 bottles of Metoprolol Succinate Extended-Release 50mg Tablets, the generic version of AstraZeneca's Toprol XL. This recall was initiated due to a dissolution test failure observed at the nine month time point. Dissolution tests verify the time taken for the active ingredient to release into the body, and help predict how the drug performs inside the body.
Avatar f tn I'm currently on 12.5mg of metoprolol succinate and 50mg sertraline and my doctor wants me to stop taking the beta blocker. He told me that just stopping it on 12.5 should be ok but I have concerns. I read that taking the two together can cause more levels of beta blocker to be in the system than normal due to how the liver processes both medications. Should I just stop it at 12.5 or should I taper down further to 6.25mg? Anyone else stop taking Toprol XL while on Zoloft?
Avatar f tn I'm a 33 year old male, in good overall physical health. I have had benign palpitations pvcs, pacs for some time now. For about a year I've been taking Metoprolol 25 mg twice a day for benign tachycardia. I have a structurally normal heart. Question, sometimes during sex I feel my heart rate get up very high, I know this is normal. My doc prescribed me 5mg Cialis to take because I told him I was having some trouble maintaining an erection at times during sex.
1933354 tn?1323362834 Keep in mind that when you switched from Toprolol ER (Metoprolol Succinate) to Lopressor (Metoprolol Tartrate), you lost the timed released advantage. If you were taking 25mg. pills of each medication, you are loosing a great deal of the latter drug's effectiveness as the day wears on. The half life of Metoprolol Tartrate is only 3-7 hours. So you must take it at least twice a day for it to be effective the entire 24 hour period. Also 25mg., once a day is a a very small dose.
Avatar f tn I had fast palpatations in Nov of last year and my doctor put me on Metoprolol 25 milligrams and it appeared to cure that , however a year since now my blood pressure is like 116/62 with a pulse rate of 48-52 and am experiencing paused even skipped pulse beats. I had an ECG done and an EKG.................EKG was perfect but the ECG showed palpatations of 785.
Avatar n tn Hey antsy. I'll tell you... I wish I had a dollar for every time someone asks this question. For me, someone who had a near lifetime of SVT, 54 years, it's easy to discern the difference. But for someone who's feeling this for the first time, or is not familiar with SVT symptoms, it can easily be mistaken for a panic attack. Of course, I can't be there when you get one. I can only tell you what SVT feels like and how if differs from anxiety or a panic attack.
Avatar f tn I haven't checked, but I don't recall seeing insomnia listed as a side effect of the usual selective beta blockers, such as Metoprolol. I have taken that med for several years and at a high dose part of that time. I have had some dream problems (may not be related to the BB) but no insomnia.
Avatar f tn HR 180 bpm (told was SINUS TACHY [difficult to believe]), sustained for several hours, give LORAZEPAM 20mg (SL) and after 1 hour fell asleep with HR 160-180 bpm still, woke up 1 hour later with HR 125 bpm and discharged with Holter Rx (DID NOT FOLLOW UP or do holter) * HAVE NEVER SEEN HR UNDER 105 BPM in entire life.
Avatar m tn I have been off for many years now and on metoprolol 25 b.i.d. I have more issues with that than anything else being tired etc.
Avatar f tn As a user of Metoprolol I don't recall any concern about being on beta blockers for dental surgery - the only serious surgery I had was open heart surgery and best I can remember I went off of all medications the day before surgery. Your doctor should advise you on such matters. Don't you have a pre-surgery process to go through? That should tell you what you need to know and give you an easy way to ask questions.
Avatar f tn He did an echo and everything looked normal and he couldn’t explain what was happening so he prescribed me metoprolol to see if it helps. But it doesn’t really help because the only time I really feel the fast heart rate is when I’m clenching my chest / coughing or lifting something that’s heavy enough to cause my chest to tighten up. Has anyone ever had this issue? Should I try to consult with a different cardiologist and see what they say?
116881 tn?1189755823 I currently take Atenolol which I think is very similar to Metoprolol. I used to take Metoprolol and had A Fib through it. I keep telling myself its a 2.5 hour flight -- what are the odds you will get A Fib????
Avatar f tn I was wondering if I can still get pregnant with my heart being like this or should I wait? I am currently taking Metoprolol, but after taking it I feel like I have more irregular beats than not taking it. So I don't know if its the medicine or my heart still healing. I will see my EP this month and hope some of these will be answered. Does anyone have this case like me? Thanks!
Avatar n tn Why was c-phen dm infant drops recalled?
12182312 tn?1427683956 SSRIs like paroxetine are a type of antidepressant that works by increasing the amount of serotonin in the brain, while metoprolol is a beta blocker which works on the heart. What type of metoprolol are you taking. Metoprolol Tartrate or Metoprolol Succinate?
Avatar f tn Im already on 100 mg 1 time a day of extended release Metoprolol.....and I think, just to appease me, because ive had a couple really really bad days of almost nonstop palps..he said to increase my Metoprolol to 1 100mg tablet in the morning...and 1 100mg tablet at night. Anyone EVER been on such a huge dose before??? I trust him...but yet....Im scared to take that much!!! ANY info on SVC OR Metoprolol would be appreciated!
Avatar n tn I have taken Toprol xl 25 mg for about 5 years. My doctor switched me to metoprolol several months ago. When I filled my prescription this time, it was from a different mfg and I think I may be having problems with it as I just don't feel right. Could changing the mfg make a difference? ALSO, my doctor prescribed 50 mg to be cut in half for my prescribed 25 mg dose. Does cutting this tablet in half compromise the time release?
Avatar n tn I have been having some strange symptoms since starting metoprolol as a migraine preventative. My head feels like it weighs a ton, and there is a lot of pressure up there, too. I've also been experiencing blurry vision and some concentration issues. I also take lithium, trazodone and neurontin and a rare xanax.
443862 tn?1237999439 I don't think the metoprolol, a beta blocker which; reduces the force and rate of the contraction of the heart, is causing this. The medicines that you take for hyperthyroidism might cause some exacerbation of the "hard heart beat" symptoms, especially if they are contraindicated with metoprolol, of course. Your doctor should be on top of this and I would let him know about it, especially if it just started, or is getting worse.
Avatar f tn I've heard people on here say their metoprolol can make the PVC's & PAC's worse and they have turned to atenolol. I went off my Rhythmol and ToprolXL almost a year ago because I got that pro-arrhythmia effect on it. For a few months I was a-fib free and then it gradually came back to weekly or if I'm lucky, bi-weekly episodes 12-36 hrs in length.
Avatar f tn Ok so I've been on Metoprolol 50-100mg a day for about a year for benign tachycardia. It's overall worked good for me. But I've noticed a decline in sexual function, specifically, more difficulty keeping an erection during sex. I'm about to start Cialis, so hopefully that will help regardless, but my cardiologist mentioned that I might try Cardizem. He was suggesting it had fewer sexual side effects.
