Metoprolol pill

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol pill

toprol

Avatar n tn I have taken Toprol xl 25 mg for about 5 years. My doctor switched me to metoprolol several months ago. When I filled my prescription this time, it was from a different mfg and I think I may be having problems with it as I just don't feel right. Could changing the mfg make a difference? ALSO, my doctor prescribed 50 mg to be cut in half for my prescribed 25 mg dose. Does cutting this tablet in half compromise the time release?
Avatar f tn It would basically depend on the size of the pill. For example, cutting a 1.25mg pill in half and expecting 50% dosage from each would be very difficult indeed. For most pills you can purchase a pill cutter from your pharmacy.
Avatar f tn When I came off of the metoprolol for pregnancy I cut the pill in 1/2 took it like that for about a week or so, then cut it into 1/4 and took it like that for about a week or so. Then I stopped. I was/am very sensitive to drugs like metoprolol and stopping cold turkey, while it may seem fine in a doctor's text book, doesn't work for me in real life. Good luck!!
Avatar m tn I know that I also memtioned that metoprolol tartrate (not Toprol XL) is not intended as a once a day pill because of its short half life. You end up with a roller coaster of drug levels.

Avatar f tn I took my 1/2 pill of metoprolol 2 days ago and felt weird, which could have been just nervous bc I was scared of what it would do to my heart rare. My heart rate really hasn't been too high here lately so that's why I was concerned. That being said, the next day I didn't take any bc I was scared my sysmptoms were medicine related. I am struggling with a cold and called my pcp and she told me to take allergy medicine along with mucinex as needed.

Avatar m tn I took Toprol xl for a time - 25 mg. I could not take a pill all at once, because my bp would drop too low. The nurse finally told me to break the pill in half and take half in the morning and half at night. That worked a little better. I ended up eventually on Atenolol which I have taken for 6 years. I take it in divided doses, as my bp or hr goes up or down. If my hr and bp are too low, I delay a dose. But I never just skip it.

Avatar f tn Im already on 100 mg 1 time a day of extended release Metoprolol.....and I think, just to appease me, because ive had a couple really really bad days of almost nonstop palps..he said to increase my Metoprolol to 1 100mg tablet in the morning...and 1 100mg tablet at night. Anyone EVER been on such a huge dose before??? I trust him...but yet....Im scared to take that much!!! ANY info on SVC OR Metoprolol would be appreciated!
19887518 tn?1486048647 What about weight gain. I try so hard to lose weight and have been making some progress. Since starting the Metoprolol a few weeks ago I've gained 3.5 lbs. It's hard enough to lose weight having a pill make it tougher or impossible is disheartening. Have any of you had weight gain? Will the pill continue to put weight on or make it tougher to lose? Or will the gain stop after the intial 3.5 lbs gain?
Avatar m tn no its not if you take it like he says, it will help you out i hope, i take a bĂȘte blocker it does help but if they are coming they do, lol no cure for them just a little help. you will be fine on this pill. if like me pills scare me so if the pill is where i can cut them in two i do and try it like that than once i see am ok i take whole pill. but you do as your dr said. lol.
Avatar m tn Metoprolol Pill in pocket and magnesium oxide are the only meds prescribed. 7 years now, no change. 68 year old female.
Avatar m tn I went from a whole pill once a day to a half a pill a day for the next few days, to a quarter pill, to an eighth of a pill, to a crumb. After each dosage reduction, I experienced palpitations for a day or two, and then things would settle down. When I got down to a crumb of metoprolol a day, I don't think I had any withdrawal symptoms when I stopped that.
Avatar f tn I have tried other beta blockers including metoprolol. Metoprolol did not agree with me. It actually caused my heartbeat to race, or jump quickly, when I would get exerted. I went back to atenolol 25 mg.
1399363 tn?1462342610 Obviously, the delay in the benefit of taking an extra pill was a problem. I had the rapid heart rate converted by the time the pill kicked it. Interestingly, over 4 years after my ablation for the SVT, I still carry a little plastic SD card holder loaded with about 10 Metoprolol pills in the watch pocket of my jeans. It's sort of like a security blanket I think for just in case.
Avatar f tn re taking half of a 25mg pill of Metoprolol Succinate (the time release version of Metoprolol), you are taking 12mg per day, which is a teeny, tiny dose. By contrast, I'm on150mg per day, and I don't feel a thing from it. Some people can be on a dose as high as 400mg. per day. So I would try and put your dose level in perspective. Could 12mg per day affect you adversely...it's possible.
Avatar f tn I was wondering if anyone out there was using Metoprolol for their SVT on an as needed basis??? I have SVT and was started out on this drug and took it for a few months. With ok from my doctor I quit taking it. I hadn't had any episodes for about 6 months then I had one last night while I was sleeping. And it was a bad one, the kind where you think your gonna die. :( My doctor had told me that some people can take Metoprolol on an as needed basis. Thanks!
Avatar n tn I've been taking 25 mg of metoprolo a day (1/2 pill twice daily) just for some minor issues with PVCs. After several months I got hives and some food sensitivity that is evidently a side effect, so I decided to stop. My cardiologist seemed to think this is a low enough dose that I could just stop cold if I wanted to, but I thought I'd see what folks thought, if I should taper off.
672586 tn?1280933658 pointed out that metoprolol may increase triglycerides and suggested I might want to look into alternatives. I will take my first pill tonight; my last metoprolol was yesterday morning. I hope it will just make me tired and not cause problems. Thanks everyone. I really appreciate the input! I'll let you know how it goes.
941118 tn?1312281926 Has anyone tried to get off of Metoprolol? I am reducing it per doctors orders and have lots of dizziness.
Avatar m tn In the hospital, they put me on IV and kept me for 4 hours and gave me a Metoprolol Succ (25 mg) pill. During my stay, I had an episode where my heart went from 80 to 120 in a matter of 1 minute...I was looking at the heart monitor. The nurses didn't respond to that and I was going crazy trying to get their attention. A nurse came and said not worry. They kicked me out after an hour and said I was OK. I have been on Metoprolol succinate 25 mg, twice a day since October.
Avatar f tn I've been taking 25mg of metoprolol for a little over a month for SVT. I thought I was going to have an ablation but at my last doctor appt my ekg was normal and doc and there was no need for an ablation. My SVT is caffeine induced and since I quit drinking caffeine I've had no palpatations. He reduced my medicine from 25mg to 12.5 and said if that worked I could eventually quit taking it. He also told me to drink plenty of fluids and walk 40 min. every day.
Avatar f tn I have been with the same manufacturer of metoprolol succinate for 2 years and had no problems and now they went out of business and the new manufacturer of the same medication isn't working for me!
