all experts/members I am 64 year old man who is on medicine for HIGH BP, Diabetes and irrglar heart beat. I am taking Atenolol 25mg(OD),Ramipril 10mg(OD),Amlodipin 5mg(OD),ecospirin 75mg (OD),Telmisartan 40 mg(OD) for HIGH BP. I am taking Metformin 500mg(BD), Glimpride 1mg (BD) for diabetes beside taking Ayurveda medicine. I get -irregular heart beat every now and then which lasts for 24 hours.

My mother is 61, hypertensive on metoprolol 50 mg od, non diabetic. She gets sweating wlile walking app 200m distence for last 5-6 years. so her stress test was done. baseline ECG is normal. On Bruce protocol she could walk for upto 2 min on treadmill. There were no ECG changes during test, but during recovery phase she developed ST depression with T inversion in II, III, AVF , I, aVL and V2 to V6 for 10 min. She was not having chest pain at that time. She is undergoing Cor angio shortly.

Im already on 100 mg 1 time a day of extended release Metoprolol.....and I think, just to appease me, because ive had a couple really really bad days of almost nonstop palps..he said to increase my Metoprolol to 1 100mg tablet in the morning...and 1 100mg tablet at night. I have taken Toprol xl 25 mg for about 5 years. My doctor switched me to metoprolol several months ago. When I filled my prescription this time, it was from a different mfg and I think I may be having problems with it as I just don't feel right. Could changing the mfg make a difference? I was conscious for my last OD, it was pretty traumatic for me. I was kept alive a few times before that, but was convulsing and unconscious. I share that to express the prevention is the only way to treat an OD right. Relapse or getting a scoot after days of withdrawal are how most the folks I know died. I take this medication as well and have been on it for 3 years. I have never experienced depression while on this medication. I believe your doctor is correct in that this is not a side effect of the medication. I have not heard of weight gain from this medication as well. Maybe this is a side effect of your depression? I got the generic form but the cost is very high. Can he switch to metoprolol and take 50mg in the am and 50mg in the pm?

He told me to wean off of the metoprolol for 5 days while taking the verapamil, and to cut down to 50mg on the metoprolol for the first day and go progressively down throughout the 5 days it takes for the verapamil to get in my system. I haven't started the verapamil yet. Partially because I have a hard time swallowing pills, partially because I am confused about the specifics of switching.
