Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol kidney

toprol

Avatar m tn I have just started taking Metoprolol, and now have kidney stones. I have not had one in a very very long time. I know Vit D causes them for me. But I've been looking trying to find some answers myseld.
Avatar m tn Never had a heart attack. The Cardio put me on Metoprolol ( 50mg); Altace 2.5 mg and baby aspirin in addition to Lipitor 20mg. Sep. 2009 he took me off the Metoprolol and increased the Altace to 10 mg. My Blood potassium level at the time was perfectly normal at 3.6; after the spike in the ace-inhibitor my potassium level has risen in two months to 5.6, which I believe is an unsafe level. My family doctor has now asked me to go back to the 2.5 mg dosage and get re-tested after two weeks.
Avatar n tn I am 38 years old. In October 2006, I went to a new doctor I got a complete physical. Everything was normal although I had some high cholesterol issues. My blood work came back with normal range or slightly high normal. The only issue I had was a bit of anxiety. (i.e. trouble sleeping due to stress.) At the time I had a lot going on. Marital issue (new married 2 years); A Job change.
Avatar f tn Hello everyone. I am back with what I hope is simple question. A couple of weeks ago my doctor put me on Metoprolol for my PVC'S, elevated blood pressure because of fast heart rate. He also renewed my prescription for Xanax because I have severe anxiety. Has anyone taken these medications together and had any adverse reaction? I don't like to take pills at all but I am at the point I have to take something for this anxiety because I am barely functioning!
Avatar f tn It appears all beta blockers can cause hyperkalemia (higher than normal potassium level). Hyperkalemia secondary to beta-adrenergic receptor blockade can occur in 1% to 5% of patients and is more likely to occur in non-cardio-selective beta-blockers versus cardio-selective beta-blockers. Underlying cause can be excessive potassium intake, disturbed cellular uptake of potassium, or impaired renal excretion of potassium.
1608566 tn?1298196868 Ally saw heart nurse and dialysis nurse, one says "no it is not the beta blocker" the kidney nurse is changing his kidney regime because she says it could be draining to much fluid from him making him have headaches and what ever. Still struggling, he should be feeling much better by now but he is not. I will keep in touch, thanks for answering.
10483820 tn?1410466172 Normally I have labs every 3 months and in 3rd stage chronic kidney disease. My last lab was in April. This BP problem started about June. Ironically I was forced into taking generic Toprol in May and the Imdur is generic also. Monday my PCP started me taking 60mg imdur (generic) with 320 mg Diovan at bedtime. It has had no impact on BP readings in the AM. Mid-morning I take 200 mg metropolol w/30 mg of generic imdur. Readings will be between 140s to 150s in the afternoon.
9043033 tn?1401346653 Although I'm on Norvasc, Metoprolol, Clonodine my B/P is never in the normal range. Lately it's been running around 240/120 most all the time, especially in the evenings and nighttime. I had a stroke in 2006 and have been on Lasix 80mg. 3 times a day, Demedex 20mg. 2 times a day. My dr. doesn't give me a reason for having to be on such high doses of diuretics or reasons for my B/P being so high although I'm on all those B/P meds.
12182312 tn?1427683956 SSRIs like paroxetine are a type of antidepressant that works by increasing the amount of serotonin in the brain, while metoprolol is a beta blocker which works on the heart. What type of metoprolol are you taking. Metoprolol Tartrate or Metoprolol Succinate?
Avatar f tn Im already on 100 mg 1 time a day of extended release Metoprolol.....and I think, just to appease me, because ive had a couple really really bad days of almost nonstop palps..he said to increase my Metoprolol to 1 100mg tablet in the morning...and 1 100mg tablet at night. Anyone EVER been on such a huge dose before??? I trust him...but yet....Im scared to take that much!!! ANY info on SVC OR Metoprolol would be appreciated!
Avatar n tn I have taken Toprol xl 25 mg for about 5 years. My doctor switched me to metoprolol several months ago. When I filled my prescription this time, it was from a different mfg and I think I may be having problems with it as I just don't feel right. Could changing the mfg make a difference? ALSO, my doctor prescribed 50 mg to be cut in half for my prescribed 25 mg dose. Does cutting this tablet in half compromise the time release?
Avatar n tn I have been having some strange symptoms since starting metoprolol as a migraine preventative. My head feels like it weighs a ton, and there is a lot of pressure up there, too. I've also been experiencing blurry vision and some concentration issues. I also take lithium, trazodone and neurontin and a rare xanax.
443862 tn?1237999439 I don't think the metoprolol, a beta blocker which; reduces the force and rate of the contraction of the heart, is causing this. The medicines that you take for hyperthyroidism might cause some exacerbation of the "hard heart beat" symptoms, especially if they are contraindicated with metoprolol, of course. Your doctor should be on top of this and I would let him know about it, especially if it just started, or is getting worse.
Avatar f tn Ok so I've been on Metoprolol 50-100mg a day for about a year for benign tachycardia. It's overall worked good for me. But I've noticed a decline in sexual function, specifically, more difficulty keeping an erection during sex. I'm about to start Cialis, so hopefully that will help regardless, but my cardiologist mentioned that I might try Cardizem. He was suggesting it had fewer sexual side effects.
Avatar f tn Because he was just recently revascularized (had CABG 2 years ago) and has no symptoms and does moderate/heavy exercise without any problems his risk of having a cardiovascular event if he has an open repair is most likely around 1-2% by a risk calculation we use as called the revised cardiac risk index as long as he doesn't have kidney disease or insulin-requiring diabetes which would increase this number some.
Avatar m tn So, been having this not very severe, but certainly noticeable and annoying sticking pain in what feels like my left testical since yesterday morning. I ejaculated approximately an hour prior to the onset, so am wondering if that had anything to do with it. I think I've had similar pain before, but it's always gone away within an hour or less. This has now been going on for over 36 hours.
Avatar f tn I am about to begin withdrawal of 50mg Metoprolol after 5 years addictions to it for blood pressure only. No heart issues. It has been used with 5mg Norvase - Calcium Channel Blocker. PCP's instructions are: 1. Stop the Norvase for 20 days to see if BP spikes. If not then proceed to: 2. Reduce from 50mg of Metoprolol twice a day to 25mg twice a day for one week. 3. Then, 1/2 a 25mg tab twice a day for one week. There was the expectation that there could or would be BP spikes. WHY?!
808904 tn?1307057809 I have been taking metoprolol for over ten years...used to have fast heartbeat...on the 25 mg it gets up to 75 sometimes ...was used to it being 58-65 on the 50 mg dose. Are these diastolic numbers too low? I have read that your body does not receive the oxygen saturation it needs when diastolic falls this low. (I also take 25mg hydrochlorothiazide each day) and have been trying to stay hydrated. I am scared these numbers (diastolic) are too low..
Avatar f tn I take this medication as well and have been on it for 3 years. I have never experienced depression while on this medication. I believe your doctor is correct in that this is not a side effect of the medication. I have not heard of weight gain from this medication as well. Maybe this is a side effect of your depression? In other words, you are eating more because you are depressed.
Avatar n tn I got the generic form but the cost is very high. Can he switch to metoprolol and take 50mg in the am and 50mg in the pm?
Avatar f tn He told me to wean off of the metoprolol for 5 days while taking the verapamil, and to cut down to 50mg on the metoprolol for the first day and go progressively down throughout the 5 days it takes for the verapamil to get in my system. I haven't started the verapamil yet. Partially because I have a hard time swallowing pills, partially because I am confused about the specifics of switching.
407053 tn?1201998633 Metoprolol is in the FDA pregnancy category C. This means that it is not known whether metoprolol will be harmful to an unborn baby. Do not take this medication without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment ok so my question is this.... has anyone ever been on this from the beginning of a pregnancy and had a healthy baby? has anyone had miscarriages and was on this drug? im desperate and cant lose another pregnancy.....
1027737 tn?1253103788 Hi, Can someone tell me what the difference between Metoprolol and Metoprolol Tartrate is? Thank You in advance!
589617 tn?1218719782 I take metoprolol (aka lopressor) for PVC's and occasional SVT. It has been good for me....my PVC's are not gone, but they are not as "forceful" and therefore are easier to ignore. The SVT is very infrequent for me in the first place, so I can't say that the metoprolol has had anything to do with the fact that I haven't had any for nearly 1.5 years, but I'm not going to stop the drugs to find out :-).
