Have taken methimazole for 2 yrs, six weeks ago I was put on metoprolol and now have hives. Taking plavix and just scratching gives me bruises. Which med is most likely the culprit to hives.

ve had a rash that no doctor can figure out what it is .. It comes and goes every day and looks like hives. Im pretty screwed on testing for allergies because all the allergists ive talked to say you have to go 2 weeks without having a break out because it could send my body into shock.. well since i get this evey day thats impossible...Very itchy as well. My dermatologist thinks it is something internal causing it, however my internal doctor said bloodwork came back normal.

I was healthy then about 3 years ago I had a Parotid tumor removed then 8 months later I had 1/2 of my thyroid removed due to a fast growing tumor. 10 days after my Thyroid surgery I had severe hives and angioedema landing me in the hospital for another 8 days and my records say I had kidney failure from this reaction. The hives continued for 14 months with other hospital stays.

I did not want to take the metoprolol and I declined the prescription for the metoprolol that the ER doc had wanted to give me--I should have at least taken the prescription because it was over a weekend and I could barely wait to call my md on Monday morning to get some metoprolol to control the shakes (full body) that came out of the blue and the rapid heart rate.

Had to work on snowblower, frustrated. Shoveled 3 inches of heavy slush out of driveway. Been tapering Valium for 4 months down to 2.5mg now for 4-5 days. HR was 141 when I came in 3 hours ago. Im already on 100 mg 1 time a day of extended release Metoprolol.....and I think, just to appease me, because ive had a couple really really bad days of almost nonstop palps..he said to increase my Metoprolol to 1 100mg tablet in the morning...and 1 100mg tablet at night. I have taken Toprol xl 25 mg for about 5 years. My doctor switched me to metoprolol several months ago. When I filled my prescription this time, it was from a different mfg and I think I may be having problems with it as I just don't feel right. Could changing the mfg make a difference? ALSO, my doctor prescribed 50 mg to be cut in half for my prescribed 25 mg dose. Does cutting this tablet in half compromise the time release?

I have been having some strange symptoms since starting metoprolol as a migraine preventative. My head feels like it weighs a ton, and there is a lot of pressure up there, too. I don't think the metoprolol, a beta blocker which; reduces the force and rate of the contraction of the heart, is causing this. The medicines that you take for hyperthyroidism might cause some exacerbation of the "hard heart beat" symptoms, especially if they are contraindicated with metoprolol, of course. Your doctor should be on top of this and I would let him know about it, especially if it just started, or is getting worse.

Ok so I've been on Metoprolol 50-100mg a day for about a year for benign tachycardia. It's overall worked good for me. But I've noticed a decline in sexual function, specifically, more difficulty keeping an erection during sex. I'm about to start Cialis, so hopefully that will help regardless, but my cardiologist mentioned that I might try Cardizem. He was suggesting it had fewer sexual side effects.

I take this medication as well and have been on it for 3 years. I have never experienced depression while on this medication. I believe your doctor is correct in that this is not a side effect of the medication. I have not heard of weight gain from this medication as well. Maybe this is a side effect of your depression? In other words, you are eating more because you are depressed.

I got the generic form but the cost is very high. Can he switch to metoprolol and take 50mg in the am and 50mg in the pm?

He told me to wean off of the metoprolol for 5 days while taking the verapamil, and to cut down to 50mg on the metoprolol for the first day and go progressively down throughout the 5 days it takes for the verapamil to get in my system. I haven't started the verapamil yet. Partially because I have a hard time swallowing pills, partially because I am confused about the specifics of switching.

I take metoprolol (aka lopressor) for PVC's and occasional SVT. It has been good for me....my PVC's are not gone, but they are not as "forceful" and therefore are easier to ignore. The SVT is very infrequent for me in the first place, so I can't say that the metoprolol has had anything to do with the fact that I haven't had any for nearly 1.5 years, but I'm not going to stop the drugs to find out :-).

Hi mags What are they doing for the hyperthyroid? I wondered if the pre-menopause was caused by the thyroid going hyper, because in my case my period stopped in February and in March my heart started beating fast. Then they gave me metoprolol, a beta blocker, to slow down the heart, but we can't do anything for the thyroid medication wise because I tried tapazole and broke out in hives. They are planning surgery to remove 1/2 the thyroid that has a nodule on it that is making it hyper.

I have tried other beta blockers including metoprolol. Metoprolol did not agree with me. It actually caused my heartbeat to race, or jump quickly, when I would get exerted. I went back to atenolol 25 mg.

Is there a reason to be taking Lisinopril and Metoprolol at the same time if they are both indicated for hypertension?

I did see some information regarding an interaction between metoprolol and this product, but it pointed to an increase in metoprolol bioavailability, which theoretically shouldn't adversely impact the PVC burden? Anyone have any input or knowledge.. Even similar personal experiences with this?
