Metoprolol generic problems

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol generic problems

toprol

Avatar f tn I have been with the same manufacturer of metoprolol succinate for 2 years and had no problems and now they went out of business and the new manufacturer of the same medication isn't working for me!
Avatar n tn you won't be on a time release with standard metoprolol that is why you need to take it twice a day. I don't know why you have to cut in in half, Wal-Mart has generic metoprolol in 25mg tablets for $4.
Avatar n tn Many people report an increase in heart palpitations after switching from Toprol XL to its generic version, Metoprolol. My guess is that the generic version is ****, which is the case with many generics, despite what the FDA tells consumers.
Avatar n tn but you must make sure it is the generic for toprol xl because there is metoprolol succinate which is the generic for toprol xl and metoprolol tartrate which is the generic for lopressor. They both work in two different ways so they can not be interchanged at the same dose. I asked this question before toprol xl became a generic.
Avatar f tn I just discovered this after 3 months of total misery, 7 different doctors, multiple tests, 1 hospitalization, 16 pound weight loss, almost lost my job, etc., etc., etc.. I want to know if this will have permanent effects on my body and heart and will I ever be the same again. I still don't feel 100% and have been back on the brand TOPROL XL for 9 days now.
Avatar f tn I forgot to mention, I am 51 year old female with a strong family history of heart problems. My father died of heart problems at 60, his father was younger when he died of heart problems. I also have 2 prolapsed valves (but not severe) and a hot spot that shows up on my stress tests, but nothing found when they did a heart cath about 7 years ago.
612551 tn?1450022175 I have been taking a beta blocker, 50 mg Metoprolol ER (Extended/Slow Release), for several years but have with my cardiologist approval today refilled my BB prescription with Metoprolol Tartrate (normal release) to be taken at 25 mg twice a day (every 12 hours). My reason is driven mainly by the fact the Tartrate is about 1/6th the cost of the Suc (ER).
12182312 tn?1427683956 SSRIs like paroxetine are a type of antidepressant that works by increasing the amount of serotonin in the brain, while metoprolol is a beta blocker which works on the heart. What type of metoprolol are you taking. Metoprolol Tartrate or Metoprolol Succinate?
10483820 tn?1410466172 So would you say that your problems of having a higher BP began when you changed to the generic medications? Do you see a correlation? If you do, tell your doctor and he/she can write to your insurance company explaining that the generic mediation clinically does not work for you and that you need the brand name. If there is no correlation, report these findings to your doctor on the next business day. Your BP is too high with a history of heart and kidney disease.
Avatar n tn I understand Metoprolol SR and Toprol XL are equivalent, the Metoprolol being the generic, and much lower in cost. I've taken both, albeit it has been at least 6 years since I last used the brand-name Toprol XL. I guess I'm 'lucky" as far as HR goes. If I take 100 mg twice a day of Metoprolol my rest HR goes into the 70s at rest. I have been trying lower dose to see if that reduces the dream problem I have.
Avatar f tn Since they are in the same family of drugs, you really shouldn't have any side effects. I went off propanol onto Toprol XL, both beta blockers with no issues at all. The problem may be in the dosage or even the fact it's a generic. I find the generic not to be as effective as the brand but perhaps that's just me. I suggest you call the doctor or pharmacist. You are on a very low dose. I take 50mg of Toprol XL twice daily and that does not totally keep the SVT under control.
1569985 tn?1328247482 I have no experience with Norplace, but I do take generic everything... now even on Metoprolol regular release to get the generic. The generic is about the cost of aspirin (well a bit more but in that price range) and I take Warfarin. I started on Toprol XR then Metorprolol SR, now Metoprolol which I take twice a day (12 hours). Warfarin is just once a day. All generics work for me, or work as well.
Avatar m tn I have AFib and have taken as much as 425 mg Rythmol SR and 200 mg of Metoprolol. I agee the high dose Metoprolol really cuts into physical strength. After a couple of months my EP gave up on the drugs, I'm still on Metoprolol but down to only 50 mg a day. He wanted to put me on a stronger drug, one that required hospitalization for the start up. I declined. He was opposed to doing a ablation because my AFib symptoms didn't justify the risk, he recommended.
Avatar m tn I have suffered with taking diltiazem(180 mg ER) AND metoprolol (50 mg ER) for atril fibrillation for the past two and a half years. The side effects have been debilitating.. Both drugs have the same side effects and together and one or the other or both create what I can only describe as chaotic turbulence in my chest and pain in my left arm when the second drug kicks in.. My cardiolgist now wants me to add a blood thinner (xarelto) to my meds menu.
Avatar f tn t know if u will see it. I also have cut down to 25mg metoprolol been on that for 2-3 yrs w/no problems. Well haven't checked pressure for like 5 or more months, & ran out of 250mg magnesium & meto for like 5 dys & had headaches so took p & up to 165/100+ form avg 120/80-85 so kindof freaked out, will take 50mg meto again got it 3dys ago but was taking 25 & bp keeps changing from ok to really high! Anyway maybe it is withdrawls from mag?
Avatar f tn My pharmacacy switched my "Toprol XL 50 mg" to a Generic one called "Metoprolol Succinate ER 50 mg" (manufactured by Sandoz) in December 2007. I have been on some form of Beta Blockers for years and I thought nothing of it. Within a week I was at my eye doctor because my left eye went from 20/20 to 20/60 and was so blurry that I felt like I had suntan lotion or something in it. Since then I have been to so many doctors because things just kept getting worse.
Avatar f tn t done this for 3 years) My EP has instructed me if it goes over 70 resting to call him so I did. They told me the generic is the same as name brand and wouldn't cause this and to drink more fluids today. My HR came down to 58 this afternoon more my normal. Tonight I took bp it was 163/94 HR 67. My question is Has anyone had this happen by switching to the generic bp med? I am also on vasotec, metoprol, and micardis. Sorry this is so long.
Avatar n tn Diana: Id say toprol xl or its generic .. metoprolol... Ive taken all three with out much trouble....hope this helps...
Avatar m tn They gave me a prescription for a beta blocker called Metoprolol and told me to use this medicine if I had another episode. From 2004 to 2008 I had a couple episodes that could have been a recurrence of the atrial fibrillation but I never was sure. Then in 2008 after moving to Russia I had a definite episode that was very uncomfortable. I took 25 MG of the Metoprolol which seemed to have no effect. Fortunately, I knew of a US Family practice doctor who was in Moscow at the time.
378273 tn?1262097621 Do you mean Metoprolol? This is the generic Toprol medication all are slow release, SL as far as I know. But, you may be talking about something else. I respond because I have been on both Toprol and Metoprolol for periods of time, the latest has been about a year now. My dose has been much higher, as high as 200 mg a day (2x100mg). While this has given me undesirable side effects I am not aware of one being depression. I've read the warnings, maybe I've overlooked.
Avatar m tn Metroprolol is a beta blocker and sometimes beta blockers can be good for a person who has heart problems and sometimes it can cause further heart problems. Usually, Metroprolol is given to a person who has heart problems. If the person has a fast heartbeat, but no signs of other heart problems, Atenolol or brand-name Tenormin can be used which is also a beta blocker, but does not have the constant levels throughout the day.
Avatar m tn My cardio gave me some samples of 10 mg coreg to take once a day and a prescription to fill if the side effects from the metoprolol do not get any better. The side effects from the metoprolol have gotten a little better - I don't feel as exhausted, though as I type this my heart rate is 52 bpm. Plus when I go walking I can't get my heart rate above 95 bpm. Does any one have any comments on the pros and cons of carvedilol versus metoprolol?
Avatar m tn , and it was fairly significant. Then, the pharmacy switched generic manufacturers and I now only have minimal problems with restless legs, but a new very annoying side effect has come on: Stiffness and soreness in the joints -- primarily my knees and sometimes (to a far less extent) in my ankles. My calves feel tight; shins and calves slightly achy. I feel like and old man with arthritis when I walk. But leg coloration and blood circulation appear to be normal.
