Avatar m tn Hello and hope you are doing well. Majority of cases of hypertension are due to primary cause, where the cause is not known. Secondary causes are due to renal diseases and endocrine disorders. You can check with your doctor to rule out the secondary causes. Also, as people age the incidence of atherosclerosis increases. Blood vessels are narrowed most commonly due to atherosclerosis, a disease where the 'fatty' material in the blood gets deposited in the walls of the blood vessels.
Avatar f tn How many of you are on blood pressure meds? And what was done to determine wether you should be on them or not!?
Avatar m tn that my blood pressure reading is 180 - 91 he added 5 ml lisinopril 1 daily I was directed to measure my blood pressure daily and keep a record for the scheduled appointment (8 Dec 10)
Avatar n tn My blood pressure is normally controlled at about 130/70. Yesterday I endured a stressful situatiion, and today my pressure is at 198/95. I just took 50 mg. metropolo. What else should I so? This discussion is related to high blood pressure spikes.
Avatar f tn There are a few things that you can do to increase your blood pressure to see if it makes you feel better (of course, be sure your blood pressure isnt high before doing any of these). The easiest thing to do is to drink a ton of water, 4+ liters a day, this will build up your blood volume and your blood pressure, I always feel better when my pressure is 100/60 as opposed to 70/30.
Avatar n tn Metoprolol is in a group of drugs called beta-blockers. Beta-blockers affect the heart and circulation (blood flow through arteries and veins). Metoprolol is used to treat angina (chest pain) and hypertension (high blood pressure). It is also used to treat or prevent heart attack. It seems to me if you have high blood pressure the medication should be taken regularily and not as needed. I don't know the effect it has on chest pain.
10610562 tn?1411418414 I told her that I wanted to try Metoprolol, and she said that would be a good idea since it is a selective bb, focusing on the heart. I have been on the Metoprolol for a couple of months now and it just isn't working near as good as the Propranolol. My hands are shaky, my anxiety is not being reduced, and I am always extremely tired and fatigued. Also waking up very disoriented, taking me over an hour to feel normal. That said, the Metoprolol has had no bad effects on my asthma.
Avatar f tn 2) Are there any alternatives to regular blood pressure medication for treating SVT? I was taking metoprolol tartrate 25 mg twice daily, but this caused me to experience chest pressure. My cardiologist took me off of it and put me on a low dose of cardizem. I haven't experienced any ill effects so far from cardizem, but I would much rather find a natural treatment for SVT like acupuncture or natural medicines. I know that bearing down can help stop an episode of it...
15256956 tn?1439425231 Aaaaah! I feel like a walking Irwin Allen film. 39 year old Male, overweight with high blood pressure (controlled), sleep apnea and under constant barrage of PVC's and PAC's. I'm 242 lbs. Back in 2010 I had a nuclear stress test as a routine investigation into my heart and it came back abnormal so off to the hospital I went for a Heart Cath. I was very much relieved when the Cardiologist there said my arteries were clean and normal. No heart disease.
Avatar f tn Well the latest thing is that one of my docs wants me to take Metoprolol 100mg to help with an occasional fast heartrate. My blood pressure is normally very low, around 95/65 or so, sometimes a little higher if I'm working lol! My heartrate doesn't usually get that high but sometimes it will spike to the 130's, but not that often.
Avatar f tn I am now having trouble because my blood pressure is normally pretty low, so I have had to play around with the metoprolol dose to stay upright without dizziness! My heart rate seems to vary SO much. I have days where it is in the 50's on the beta blocker and is never above 90 standing. Other days it goes from the 50's at rest to the 120's, even with the metopro l. Can the symptoms of POTS be really intermittent?
Avatar n tn This isn't a blood pressure question but the medication is for high blood pressure so I thought you might could help me. I have been having some strange symptoms since starting metoprolol as a migraine preventative. My head feels like it weighs a ton, and there is a lot of pressure up there, too. I've also been experiencing blurry vision and some concentration issues. I also take lithium, trazodone and neurontin and a rare xanax.
Avatar m tn m back on the metoprolol for now, I will monitor my blood pressure and pulse rate cause I want to see the difference between the Propranolol and Metoprolol. So far on the Metoprolol the only side-effect I feel who is different than the Propranolol is more facial muscles tension, jaw pain, neck pain... Also my blood pressure is a lot lower on the Metoprolol and pulse rate is also lower...
Avatar f tn You should also get your blood cholesterol, lipid, triglyceride, blood sugar and thyroid levels checked. Please discuss this with your cardiologist. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history.
1744024 tn?1311259389 Yes-- they should be OK together. Metoprolol is not sedating, and Xanax does not have a great effect on lowering blood pressure.... and they are metabolized by different enzymes, so they don't affect the blood levels of each other. The only way they might interact that I can imagine is if a person is dizzy from low blood pressure from too much metoprolol, and also woozy from too much Xanax-- the effects might add together. But that is a bit of a stretch.
Avatar m tn Would Metoprolol Succinate (25 mg X 2) cause heart fluttering? I never had this feeling before. Sorry, for my extremely long post and thank you.
378273 tn?1262097621 I do not have a history of high blood pressure. However, when I went into my a-fib attacks, my blood pressure would shoot up during the attacks. My EP thought that maybe it was caused by me being anxious during the a-fib attack.
Avatar f tn I was then put on 5 medications. One being low dose aspirin. The second was for high blood pressure (I can't remember the name of it - I took one, didn't work, switched to the other) Because I didn't have high blood pressure, and I was having so many problems with that particular med - I was coughing all the time. The cardiologist told me that I could stop taking it because I didn't have high blood pressure anyway.
443862 tn?1237999439 I was on Metoprolol 25 mg er for 4 years. It made nervous at first and increasing gave me Eczema. If you don’t have heart disease and just high blood pressure, propanolol a Bateblocker, blocks anxiety by working on the Serotonin receptors in your gut as well as works to get your blood pressure down. But it is not a preferred cardio beta blocker for heart disease. I absolutely hate metoprolol. I believe I am allergic to it.
Avatar n tn metoprolol 100mg. With this my blood pressure averaged 130-140 over 80-90. Now all of a sudden my blood pressure was down to 85-90/50 with a pulse of 50'ish, i was dizzy and felt weak. I dropped my diovan to 160 and dilitiazem to 120, but my pressure is still running about 95/55 w/a 60 pulse. I feel my blood pulsing? thru my body, and am sweaty. Whats up???
Avatar f tn Perhaps your doctor can start you off on a lower dose or frequency and titrate up, though that may be not possible in your case. Alternatively, you can get an automatic blood pressure monitor to check your blood pressure and heart rate yourself to make sure they do not drop too low after starting any new medications.
Avatar m tn I have slightly reduced my Sotalol dosage because of side effects and have noticed my blood pressure is high today. Could this be the cause? Normally my blood pressure is not high. I take Sotalol for afib.
Avatar m tn I've taken metoprolol for six days for high blood pressure, it made me feel lousy, groggy and gave me headaches. I want to stop it cold turkey, my doctor says its ok with such a small dose but I am a huge worrier and would like to know if anyone had any side effects when stopping even after taking it for such a short period of time??
Avatar m tn I don't know Atelenol, but I do know Metoprolol and AFib. I am currently living with AFib and taking medications only to control, lower, my heart rate (HR). Metoprolol does the latter, as well as given unwanted lowering of my blood pressure (BP). So I am treating AFib as a condition that is treated for "rate control" and for "clot prevention", I also take warfarin.
771913 tn?1343331188 It must be caused by something else (that for all I know also may increase the blood pressure). Blood pressure can increase in response to lots of conditions that may cause symptoms, and we automatically think that we are sensing the increase in blood pressure, which is not necessarily correct at all. What is your normal (baseline) blood pressure between the spikes? Metoprolol will not increase the blood pressure.
