Avatar f tn lets face it, beta blockers slow the metabolism, and metoprolol is known to cause high blood sugar as well, so this combo easily can gain to weight gain. Any sudden weight gain should be reported to your doctor however, as there can be other issues, like water retention. This can be caused as well, but can be a result of an underling condition, so it is important to identify.
Avatar n tn ? . I have high blood pressure. I was taking diovan 320 and dilitiazem 360 & metoprolol 100mg. With this my blood pressure averaged 130-140 over 80-90. Now all of a sudden my blood pressure was down to 85-90/50 with a pulse of 50'ish, i was dizzy and felt weak. I dropped my diovan to 160 and dilitiazem to 120, but my pressure is still running about 95/55 w/a 60 pulse. I feel my blood pulsing? thru my body, and am sweaty. Whats up???
Avatar n tn I am also having some difficulty with my blood sugar, stays low. I feel like all I do is eat, when I asked my cardiologist he said to talk to my general practitioner. I have lost my insurance and I am trying to get on a sliding fee scale so I can be seen. I guess my main questions would be should I be concerned about my stiffness and am I doing my body more harm than good taking this medication?
Avatar f tn Five weeks ago I decided to cut way back on sugar. This means no more cookies, candies, muffins, etc. I continue to eat foods that contain sugar but not to a great degree. My issues have been snacking. I am in very good health and hike at least a couple of miles a day and I am 5'8" and weigh 145. I am 69 yoa. I am not overweight and I do not have diabetes. All was fine (except for the cravings).
Avatar f tn You should also get your blood cholesterol, lipid, triglyceride, blood sugar and thyroid levels checked. Please discuss this with your cardiologist. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history.
Avatar n tn i have wondered about the connection in between blood sugar and palpitations. Some time ago I went to the ER for palpitations. I had been sick with a nasty ear infection for a number of days and suddenly picked of hundreds of palpitations, I went to the ER they diagnosed PAC's and sent me home. They did note that my blood sugar was high which they thought was related to being sick. A follow-up test showed normal blood sugar, so if I have diabetes it must not be chronic.

Avatar f tn I had a diagnosis of hypertension and tachycardia pre pregnancy which was controlled with lisinipril and metoprolol. After I became pregnant they switched my metoprolol to labetalol and took me off of lisinipril.Labetalol did NOT work! Long story short, over the eight and a half months I've had to stay on metoprolol and actually have it increased to 150mg twice a day. Hopefully that's all that I Will have to have as i approach the final weeks of this pregnancy.
Avatar n tn ve had slightly elevated blood pressure (in the 145/85 range) for the last year and have been taking Metoprolol for the last six wks with some benefit blood-pressure-wise (now 137/70). Episodes in last five nights have been increasing in frequency to average five. They wake me up but only seem to last 8 to 35 seconds (mostly, I'd guess, around 12 seconds).I'm guessing my pulse rate goes up to around 140 bpm. Daytimes, I feel and act just fine.
Avatar f tn I have horrible, willpower when it comes to dieting but I know I need to do it! High blood pressure runs in my family my dad has had it his whole life.I’m on Metoprolol 100mg. My question is does anyone else have this battle? I’m so scared im gonna drop dead!
Avatar m tn Hello and hope you are doing well. Majority of cases of hypertension are due to primary cause, where the cause is not known. Secondary causes are due to renal diseases and endocrine disorders. You can check with your doctor to rule out the secondary causes. Also, as people age the incidence of atherosclerosis increases. Blood vessels are narrowed most commonly due to atherosclerosis, a disease where the 'fatty' material in the blood gets deposited in the walls of the blood vessels.
Avatar m tn I continuously checked my BP which got increased to 70/110 later. My blood sugar levels were ok and not a diabetic. Also did an ECG next day which the results are still awaiting. After that day I still feel not right; I feel lifeless or lethargic feeling. No chest pain as such. But feel the stomach is bloated. Any advise?
Avatar n tn Metoprolol is in a group of drugs called beta-blockers. Beta-blockers affect the heart and circulation (blood flow through arteries and veins). Metoprolol is used to treat angina (chest pain) and hypertension (high blood pressure). It is also used to treat or prevent heart attack. It seems to me if you have high blood pressure the medication should be taken regularily and not as needed. I don't know the effect it has on chest pain.
1520499 tn?1291058365 You eat, blood sugar levels increase, your body produces a lot of insuline, which makes the blood sugar levels decrease rapidly. Your body thinks this is dangerous, and produces lots of adrenaline to raise the blood sugar levels again, and so on.. In addition, it's normal to have an elevated heart rate after meals. Blood is running to the GI tract to help digest the food.
15256956 tn?1439425231 I think another thing to consider is that with the dose that you were taking, I think there was a slow, but steady rise in the level of Metoprolol in your blood due to the half life latency. My cardiologist had told me the he had patients who were on up to 400mg per day, and I wondered who and what age group happened to be on that amount. I think if you're sedentary, you may not notice the effect of taking that amount.
Avatar n tn Last Thursday on the 8th of January I started not feeling good. For some reason I took my blood pressure and it was very high for me. The bottome number along was over a 100. The top ranged from 140 to 160 and the bottome4 number was always over 100. I also noticed that my heart rate was over a 100 a well. I went to the doctor Friday of last week and they did an EKG and it was normal. I advised them I knew something was very wrong. I have never had problems like this before.
Avatar n tn I have various symptoms frequent urinations sweating, frequent thirst, high blood pressure , blood sugar high sometimes, severe muscle cramps spasms, acne, naseua, no appetite, exhausted" Those are also symptoms of primary aldosteronism. Suggest you get an aldosterone/renin blood test. Also, check your potassium level.
Avatar n tn This isn't a blood pressure question but the medication is for high blood pressure so I thought you might could help me. I have been having some strange symptoms since starting metoprolol as a migraine preventative. My head feels like it weighs a ton, and there is a lot of pressure up there, too. I've also been experiencing blurry vision and some concentration issues. I also take lithium, trazodone and neurontin and a rare xanax.
Avatar f tn This is a common compaint with (at least) Metoprolol. It's the only one I've ever taken, so I can't compare. I gained almost 45 pounds which pushed my blood sugar into the danger zone, which I'm now on a diet to lose before I have to go on Metformin for that. I have 90 days to show an improvement. My recommendation to you would be to cut nearly all carbs from your diet. I restrict myself to less than 50 a day. That, and walk. I lost 5 pounds in my frst week on this regime.
Avatar f tn Well the latest thing is that one of my docs wants me to take Metoprolol 100mg to help with an occasional fast heartrate. My blood pressure is normally very low, around 95/65 or so, sometimes a little higher if I'm working lol! My heartrate doesn't usually get that high but sometimes it will spike to the 130's, but not that often.
