toprol

Avatar f tn Perhaps your doctor can start you off on a lower dose or frequency and titrate up, though that may be not possible in your case. Alternatively, you can get an automatic blood pressure monitor to check your blood pressure and heart rate yourself to make sure they do not drop too low after starting any new medications.
Avatar n tn Metoprolol is in a group of drugs called beta-blockers. Beta-blockers affect the heart and circulation (blood flow through arteries and veins). Metoprolol is used to treat angina (chest pain) and hypertension (high blood pressure). It is also used to treat or prevent heart attack. It seems to me if you have high blood pressure the medication should be taken regularily and not as needed. I don't know the effect it has on chest pain.
Avatar f tn There are a few things that you can do to increase your blood pressure to see if it makes you feel better (of course, be sure your blood pressure isnt high before doing any of these). The easiest thing to do is to drink a ton of water, 4+ liters a day, this will build up your blood volume and your blood pressure, I always feel better when my pressure is 100/60 as opposed to 70/30.
10610562 tn?1411418414 The increased heart rate causes more oxygen molecules to pass across the interface in the alveoli. Elevated blood pressure too, may be compensatory. In some cases resolution of the asthma will cause the heart rate to drop back down on it's own. If the heart rate is not abnormally high, and there are no irregulatities, it may be best to leave things alone. That being said asthma may be very hard to control. It's very easy to talk about avoiding triggers.
Avatar m tn Hello and hope you are doing well. Majority of cases of hypertension are due to primary cause, where the cause is not known. Secondary causes are due to renal diseases and endocrine disorders. You can check with your doctor to rule out the secondary causes. Also, as people age the incidence of atherosclerosis increases. Blood vessels are narrowed most commonly due to atherosclerosis, a disease where the 'fatty' material in the blood gets deposited in the walls of the blood vessels.
Avatar f tn How many of you are on blood pressure meds? And what was done to determine wether you should be on them or not!?
Avatar n tn If you also have a high heart rate, then the Metoprolol may help, it will also lower you blood pressure whether you need it or not. On the other hand 25 mg is a low dose and if it helps I wouldn't worry about being on it. It may be the most widely used heart medication there is, so there it has been extensively tested, by real patients, me included.
Avatar n tn This isn't a blood pressure question but the medication is for high blood pressure so I thought you might could help me. I have been having some strange symptoms since starting metoprolol as a migraine preventative. My head feels like it weighs a ton, and there is a lot of pressure up there, too. I've also been experiencing blurry vision and some concentration issues. I also take lithium, trazodone and neurontin and a rare xanax.
Avatar f tn I got perscribed metoprolol( a beta blocker) for high blood pressure and tachycardia last week. Since I’ve started taking it I’ve had a mild pain in my chest.
Avatar m tn Last week I ended up in the ER because my BP was higher than usual (146/96), even after taking my daily medication. My blood pressure is usually 117/70 and heart rate in the low 70’s. They ran all the usual tests like ekg, chest scan, blood work, etc. All came back fine and went home. The following day everything was fine but one day later my BP began to creep up again. I called my doctor and she instructed me to take half a dose between the full dose.
Avatar m tn Part 1: I am a 54 year old male. I have high blood pressure and have been on medication for about 2 years now. I started taking Diovan 40 mg about 3 years ago, but my doctor thought it wasn't working so he increased it to 160 mg. After a while, I started feeling dizzy or light headed and We decided to cut down diovan to 80 mg. the dizziness went away for a few monts then it came back and was getting worse. I made a big mistake of stopping the Diovan all together.
Avatar f tn I have been taking 25 mg once a day for a month due to high blood pressure. I am also taking diovan 80.12.5 once a day. I would like to get off this medication as it is making me very sluggish and tired all the time. How do I wean off this medicine as I am only taking it for one month.
Avatar m tn 5mg of Bisoprolol (powerful substitute for your metoprolol) and a 2.5mg of Ramipril (blood pressure meds). I repeat the same procedure in the evening and everything seems stable. If you do decide to go the same route as me, I would recommend starting on 1.25mg of Bisoprolol twice daily because it is powerful. I went to 5mg once and ended up in hospital with very low pressure and pulse and it took 4 days to get everything back to normal again. 1.
378273 tn?1262097621 I do not have a history of high blood pressure. However, when I went into my a-fib attacks, my blood pressure would shoot up during the attacks. My EP thought that maybe it was caused by me being anxious during the a-fib attack.

Avatar n tn 2) Do you suffer from high blood pressure (hypertension)? - In that case we need to start you on an alternate Blood Pressure lowering medication. 3) "A food sensitivity occurring months later" – has your physician confirmed that this is a side effect? This can have important implications on the treatment if the sensitivity and hives do not subside after stopping. Any way, you can stop the medication without tapering.
Avatar m tn s natural pacemaker (sinus node in the right atrium) may be irregular. Your medication helps control high blood pressure and probably would be prescribed without a pacemaker. Also, the med helps stable the heart rate, but if the sinus node pacemaker output is abnormal, the heart rate could be slow enough to cause formation of blood clots and a heart attack or too fast causing the heart to be unable to pump enough blood into circulation with each heartbeat and cause heart failure.
Avatar f tn One of the side effects that can occure is dizziness, but I read you had that before starting Metoprolol, but it is my guess this medication can add to that problem, depending to some degree on what your blood pressure is. Metoprolol has two main effects: lower heart rate and lower blood pressure.
Avatar m tn He increased Lisinopril from 5 ml to 10 ml (two 5 mil tablets) to lower my blood pressure. The other Metoprolol 25 mil 2 times a day is not change.
Avatar m tn I have slightly reduced my Sotalol dosage because of side effects and have noticed my blood pressure is high today. Could this be the cause? Normally my blood pressure is not high. I take Sotalol for afib.
Avatar n tn Metoprolol, commonly known as Lopressor is a beta blocker. This medication is used in the treatment of high blood pressure, angina (chest pain, usually caused by lack of oxygen to the heart due to clogged arteries, which can cause PVCs), and heart attack. I've taken Metoprolol for 6 years, and find it ineffective for treating PVC's, at least for me. I was extremely effective in lowering my blood pressure, and slowing my resting heart rate.
Avatar n tn Metoprolol is a beta blocker and will make your heart rate slower. It is also used to control high blood pressure, so yes, it will have an effect on your blood pressure, but probably not that much if you are on a low dose. This medication has been around for a long time and is actually pretty safe. Of course, as with any medication, if you experience any uncomfortable side effects, call your doctor, or, if they seem serious, go to the ER.
Avatar f tn I also had to limit my metoprolol because of , what I thought, was the lowest rate that I wanted. I also take lisinopril, which is an ace inhibitor, to lower the blood pressure. It works differently and does not lower the heart rate. I think both of these drugs are good in my case and maybe in yours.
Avatar n tn My blood pressure is normally controlled at about 130/70. Yesterday I endured a stressful situatiion, and today my pressure is at 198/95. I just took 50 mg. metropolo.
