Metoprolol and zoloft

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol and zoloft

toprol

Avatar m tn I currently take Amiodarone 200mg a day, Metoprolol 100mg a day, Prilosec OTC 40mg a day. I have occasional Atrial Fibrillation. I was put on the Metoprolol in 2004 (my dosage is much lower now) and the Amiodarone in July 2008. I suffer greatly from panic attacks and extreme anxiety. My doctor prescribed Zoloft for me at 25mg a day for two weeks, then 50mg a day thereafter. He knows all the meds I currently take, of course.
Avatar n tn I am currently on 150 mg of zoloft and 25 mg of metoprolol. I am going out with a few friends tonight and was wondering if anything bad will happen if I have a 2 or 3 alcohol drinks. I never drink so it is not like I drink all the time.
Avatar n tn Ok since you are an office worker i think we can rule out lead or copper poisoning. I do think it is due to the Metroprol to Metoprolol Tartrate issue or the combination or both Zoloft and Metoprolol. Both medication's class are known to give a metallic taste in the mouth. If the metallic taste was not present prior switching from Metroprol to Metoprolol Tartrate then i think we can rule out Zoloft as giving the symptoms.

Avatar n tn I’m only taking 5 mg of lisinopril and I take 150 mg Zoloft I’ve been having a extra heartbeat (palpitations ) my cardio put me on 12.5 mg of metoprolol a 25 mg cut in half is this all safe to take togather.?
Avatar n tn I tried 50 mg of Zoloft but had severe nausea and anxiety the first day and stopped it. Now my doctor has prescribed 10 mg. of Paxil but I am hesitant to take it since drug interaction warnings and my pharmacist say it could lower my blood pressure too much. I do not want to return to the emergency room or experience the bad side effects again. Any advice? Is it true that SSRIs and beta blockers are not a wise combination? Is there an SSRI that works well with metoprolol tartrate?
Avatar m tn Thanks Vicki. My doctor knows every medication I take, so why would he prescribe something that would interact with something else? It doesn't make sense, as he's an excellent doctor with a heart arrythmia of his own. In fact, my doctor and I both share the same heart specialist! The only reason I know the meds interact is because I read it online. I know, you can't believe most of what you read online. I see so much contradictory information!
Avatar f tn I'm currently on 12.5mg of metoprolol succinate and 50mg sertraline and my doctor wants me to stop taking the beta blocker. He told me that just stopping it on 12.5 should be ok but I have concerns. I read that taking the two together can cause more levels of beta blocker to be in the system than normal due to how the liver processes both medications. Should I just stop it at 12.5 or should I taper down further to 6.25mg? Anyone else stop taking Toprol XL while on Zoloft?
Avatar m tn I've been living with terrible symptoms of POTS for almost two years now. I've joined this to hopefully get some support and answers because I've come to a REALLY depressed point in my journey where I'm not even sure if going on is worth it anymore. I would honestly say that I have a "mild" form of it at the moment because I do not faint, thankfully. And I'm also not as ill as I have been at times.
Avatar m tn Thanks for the informative responses. I currently take 100 mg of Metoprolol every day and have Xanax for emergencies. I haven't taken any Xanax as of yet. I had a nuclear stress test and ECG less than two weeks ago and both were completely normal. I just hate this skipping heart stuff. I don't know why it scares me so much. Anything that aggravates it really causes me concern. I want to continue with the Zoloft in hopes that it helps my ongoing anxiety problems.
Avatar f tn I never worded it very well, I meant most antidepressants caused weight gain and or pulse problems. Zoloft/setraline hasn't caused weight gain and had lessened my appetite which would be fantastic if it wasn't affecting my heart.
Avatar m tn I'm "controlling" my anxiety and PACs with Metoprolol and Zoloft (beta blocker and SSRI). I guess I feel a couple of them a day now. Sometimes, I can get 8-10 a minute, and it often happens with changes in position, lying on the left side, kneeling, stretching, etc.
1027737 tn?1253103788 Hi, Can someone tell me what the difference between Metoprolol and Metoprolol Tartrate is? Thank You in advance!
Avatar m tn Hi, I'm glad that the Lopressor (metoprolol) work great for you!!! Can I know why you take it? What I understand is that beta blocker have usually mild side-effects when they are give to people with high blood pressure... BUT in my case, my blood pressure is lower to normal only and rarely in the high range (only when i'm in a middle of a panic attack or in a situation where I feel trap).
Avatar n tn My electrophysiologist recently put me on a beta blocker (Metoprolol) 25 mg twice a day for hypertension and a ton of other symptoms he said must be due to Neurocardiogenic Syncope. I was diagnosed with asthma a couple years ago and it seems as if the beta blocker is causing shortness of breath and a feeling that seems similar to how I feel after exercising, a sort of chest tightness I would say. Is this common for beta blockers to do to people with asthma?
Avatar n tn You should discuss with a psychiatrist how to better address anxiety with behavioral and medical therapy. 2. Metoprolol is also short-acting so I would consider using either metoprolol succinate (toprol XL) daily or propranolol for supression of PVCs. 3. I have heard from patients that magnesium tablet, available OTC, are good for suppressing PVCs and palpitations.
Avatar n tn He has the shakes so bad he cannot eat, becuase he cannot eat he is losing his appetite and strength. They put him on a beta-blocker Metoprolol. He coughs so bad he chokes.
Avatar f tn I recently had an exacerbation of svt requiring adenosine and an increase in my maintenance metoprolol dosage. I essentially lost a day of memory and have been forgetful and foggy headed. Just wondering if this is normal. I can't get any doctor I have seen to address this.
Avatar f tn I also have panic attacks and asthma and i take xanax and advaire for them I also have pvc's pac's and svt and i take 120 mg of inderal and 120 mg of verapamil and have noticed no problems to speak of. The inderal is a beta blocker and the verapamil is a calcium channel blocker I really haven't noticed either making my asthma worse. I guess if you are worried talk to your doctor and pharmacists and see what they recommend.
Avatar n tn I never know when they are going to come on and how strong they are going to be and how long they are going to last. The cardiologist has now put me on the 50mg of metoprolol/daily and 100mg of Flecainide/twice daily. Yesterday was my first dose of the flecainide and I ended up in the emergency room again. The doctor at the ER just sounded annoyed with me...told me nothing can be done, PVC's are benign. All he did was give me 1mg of Ativan for anxiety. I don't know what to do anymore...
Avatar f tn I'm 33 years old and prescibed Metoprolol for my heart palpitations, which happens everytime I eat food. After all cardiac tests came back normal, she mentioned that it may be stress related. I'm now being prescribed 20 mg Celexa for aniexty. I only take 6.25 mg of Metoprolol, cutting it into quarters, but are scared to take the two in combination. There are so many warnings about not mixing them. My heart rate has slowed down with the Celexa, but I still get the pounding sensation.
Avatar f tn I had, on average, 20-30,000 ectopic beats every day, and 6-700 runs of SVT per day. Most of my episodes occur at night. From 10pm to 6am, my hourly burden of PACs/SVTwas 30-80%. It starts in the evening and then keeps me awake constantly. The meds have all been a disaster. I have had two ablation attempts with failure to induce. The last ablation attempt caused pericarditis. I was.taking Metoprolol, which I have taken before and it always seems to stop working.
Avatar n tn I have frequent PVC's (often with bigeminy) and I also have lots of reflux problems. I have been getting a lot more PVC's the past couple of weeks. I switched from Toprol XL to generic Metoprolol, and I I don't know if that has had any affect. I have also had increased reflux issues during this time. I am getting more PVC's and bigeminy than normal and am noticing it most when I lean forward, especailly while eating. Does this sound like the PVC's are coming from reflux?
Avatar m tn t know Atelenol, but I do know Metoprolol and AFib. I am currently living with AFib and taking medications only to control, lower, my heart rate (HR). Metoprolol does the latter, as well as given unwanted lowering of my blood pressure (BP). So I am treating AFib as a condition that is treated for "rate control" and for "clot prevention", I also take warfarin.
