Someone please advise---share your experience with the medicine. Thank you.
Avatar n tn He has the shakes so bad he cannot eat, becuase he cannot eat he is losing his appetite and strength. They put him on a beta-blocker Metoprolol. He coughs so bad he chokes.
Avatar n tn I have a lot of hair loss that just started gained some weight and now have yellow stools, this is kind of scary? does anyone have any suggestions? This doctor acted like it was no big deal.. Do I head for UCLA, should I get a pacemaker? I would really like to live! Can you HELP?
Avatar f tn Make sure your doctor looks at you ECG about 7 to 10 days after starting the med. Your blood pressure is ok. It should get better with exercise and weight loss. You have a good attitude and are on the right path.
Avatar f tn t really blame metoprolol, but blame over eating. On Weight watchers now and have lost 14 lbs. I was Prescribed metoprolol and aspirin after diagnosis of 50% blockage in main heart artery to reduce BP and prevent angina. Then After 11 years started getting rapid heart beat. Dr switched my Metoprolol and my BP went dangerously high. Put me back on metop with increase to 1&1/2. .
Avatar n tn I have been working hard on my health and diet and just got clearance last week to stop taking the last of my meds. I took Lisinopril, Amlodipine, and Metoprolol. I was weaned off them all. I am now med free. Yay! Curious if anyone truly saw weight loss after stopping beta blockers.
443862 tn?1237999439 I don't think the metoprolol, a beta blocker which; reduces the force and rate of the contraction of the heart, is causing this. The medicines that you take for hyperthyroidism might cause some exacerbation of the "hard heart beat" symptoms, especially if they are contraindicated with metoprolol, of course. Your doctor should be on top of this and I would let him know about it, especially if it just started, or is getting worse.
Avatar f tn I am on Amlodipine and Metoprolol. Prior to starting this I was doing well on an 1100 calorie very low carb diet and I also hit the gym for 2 hours a day. I have not lost any weight in over three weeks. I would like to do a trial of not taking the b/p meds. I think the only reason my b/p went up was because I had gained 40 pounds. I have a home cuff and will monitor myself and lucky for me when my pressure goes up I get a headache.
Avatar m tn Metoprolol caused me hair loss....Bystolic has slowed it down somewhat....
Avatar f tn Since I took the test a week ago, I am determined to eat much healthier and lose weight. What do you think about the metoprolol, and do you think that I should see a liver specialist immediately, or try to bring it down with diet for a while and see if that helps? I am otherwise very healthy.

1717715 tn?1318297295 He told me age has nothing to do with my hair loss and I am the same age as you. He did tell me that the Metoprolol DOES cause hair loss/thinning and that I should NOT discontinue the medication. He ordered test but his advise to me? Get a wig! (or a hair transplant) LOL!!
19887518 tn?1486048647 What about weight gain. I try so hard to lose weight and have been making some progress. Since starting the Metoprolol a few weeks ago I've gained 3.5 lbs. It's hard enough to lose weight having a pill make it tougher or impossible is disheartening. Have any of you had weight gain? Will the pill continue to put weight on or make it tougher to lose? Or will the gain stop after the intial 3.5 lbs gain?
Avatar f tn You can look on drug info sites and see that anxiety is an infrequent side effect of metoprolol and other BBs. Same with weight gain, and even a reference to increasing any pre-existing depression. When you have rare side effects, it can be difficult to convince anybody that the effect is real and does come from the drug. I'd identify what web sites he would consider to be as authoritative sources, then print web pages from those sources that list your symptoms as rare side effects.
Avatar n tn Hi there. I am a female, 19 years old, otherwise in good health and weight. My electrophysiologist recently put me on a beta blocker (Metoprolol) 25 mg twice a day for hypertension and a ton of other symptoms he said must be due to Neurocardiogenic Syncope. I was diagnosed with asthma a couple years ago and it seems as if the beta blocker is causing shortness of breath and a feeling that seems similar to how I feel after exercising, a sort of chest tightness I would say.
20748650 tn?1521032211 Medical professional here at a loss; Recently a family member of mine started TriNessa. History wise she is mildly hypotensive at baseline and takes metoprolol for rhythm control. Her resting bp is 90/50, resting heart rate 40-55, pvc burden 6%. This is with metoprolol, which has been successful at suppressing symptoms. Since starting trinessa however the following has been noted; A return of symptomatic PVC's and effective loss of burden control Metoprolol observed at home.
Avatar m tn About me: I'm 32 years old, male and have had mild Vertigo symptoms for 9 months now. The symptoms of feeling like I just got off a boat are constant and happen 80% of the day, all day every day. I have never fallen over from it but it does greatly affect my quality of life. About my medical past: Had Bells Palsy in April 2014 on my left side of my face (MRI, CT, Xrays done to make sure it wasn't a stroke), cleared up by June/July 2014. Vertigo like symptoms started in August 2014..
Avatar n tn Don't take the diet pills if you have high BP! They will definitely mess with your heart. You can end up with palpitations for one thing and it will make things worse. Just tell your doctor you can't lose any weight or you're gaining weight. Maybe he can help with the weight loss.
Avatar f tn That said, I have gained weight, about 20 pounds in the last year+, but I think it is due first to what I eat, and too much of it. Still I note that BB do cause me to fatigue easily, thus I do less physical activity. But I associate the parallel weight gain as correctable, I could force myself to be more active.
Avatar f tn I take 100 mg metoprolol and I am not aware of any hair loss from that. I've taken as much as 200 mg, but only for short periods. Not hair loss then either. I think some side effects, like hair loss, are frequently temporary...hope that's your situation.
Avatar n tn Hi - I have a question for all of you metoprolol users...is it possible to gain weight on 12.5 mgs per day? :( I'm a very active 53 yo woman (cardio 60 min daily, weight training 4x a week, martial arts 3 x). How is it possible that I'm struggling to keep from gaining weight? I'm currently looking at my calorie intake and also the macro allocation, but one would think with all of the cardio, sparring and weigh training keeping the weight off would be easy!

Avatar n tn Is there any surgery or any procedure to reduce the size of Lv size.Is it a reason for getting week n weight loss.
Avatar n tn Why do doctors persist in denying that Metoprolol and similar beta blockers cause hair loss? Do they really NOT KNOW or are they just oblivious and uncaring to the devastation that these meds cause?
Avatar n tn The drug has eliminated hypertension (drop of 10-20 mm pressure), ascities (loss of over 5 lbs weight), and oedema in my ankles. It has also reduced ongoing diarrhea. I still have occasional peripheral cramping which generally resolves if I drink Pedialyte. The docs also want me to use a beta blocke, but I'm thinking why bother if I don't need it? I have advanced HCV hepatitis. I've had HCV for at least four decades.
19887518 tn?1486048647 I have been on a big campaign to lose weight and have lost 22 lbs. slowly and by eating healthy over the past 13 months. I weighed aprox. 232.5 lbs for several weeks in a row before starting the med. Since starting the med I have been slowly gaining and today I had a big jump to 238.6 lbs. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I was so proud of myself getting down to 230-232 and felt great, now I feel terrible about the reversal. It can’t continue!
