Metoprolol and headaches

Common Questions and Answers about Metoprolol and headaches

toprol

Im already on 100 mg 1 time a day of extended release Metoprolol.....and I think, just to appease me, because ive had a couple really really bad days of almost nonstop palps..he said to increase my Metoprolol to 1 100mg tablet in the morning...and 1 100mg tablet at night. Anyone EVER been on such a huge dose before??? I trust him...but yet....Im scared to take that much!!! ANY info on SVC OR Metoprolol would be appreciated!
If you are experiencing those symptoms again, I would ressume the metoprolol and discuss this with your doctor again. Sometimes it takes some trial and error before we can get it all right. My heart spasms took some time to get better, and I had to try a few meds before I got it right. I have taken 150mg daily of this drug without any adverse reactions for 6 years now.
Lipitor - lowering cholst.. will cause cramping everywhere on most people... headaches and other things as well.. like Dsue said - these drugs work diffrent on every person who takes them. but after 5years of study and reading on these meds - such as toprol -metoprolol.. beta blockers.. I found that out of 100 people useing these drugs, that 80% had adverse side effects happen to them.
I am really quite scared and their ruining my life. I'm taking metoprolol for high blood pressure so I can't take alot of pain medications and the tylonol barely works anymore. Please help me!!!
I've been taking 50 mg daily (25mg morning and evening) of metoprolol since early '04. I'm 49, male and aerobically active (cycling). I noted an immediate decrease in resting and exercise heartrate, and a reduction in aerobic capacity. I have kept exercising and now hardly notice the difference, except when I exercise at altitude. I also initially experienced cold hands/feet, and very vivid dreams, both disappeared in time. No stomach upset or other problems.
I removed the atacand myself last Sunday and this past week have felt great. I do smoke, metoprolol has the side effect of cold hand and feet, very, very true and it said even more so in smokers. Anways, better than a racing heart! My pulse is now nicely in the 80s, having come down from 103-108. The only time that I was dizzy was when i was 80/50 with both meds. Now ont he met on it's own, not dizzy at all.
I took 2 different versions of metoprolol, Toprol (metoprolol tartrate) and Toprol XL (metoprolol succinate). The second one is the extended release version. Toprol made my symtoms worse but Toprol XL worked fairly well in controlling my conditions, PVC's and PSVT. I was taking 50 mg a day in both cases. The only thing that affected me was a slight feeling of dizziness at times and some mental fatigue.
I felt terrible, chest pains and shortness of breath at rest and lots of headaches. I refused to let that cardiologist anywhere near me again, so they had to find me someone else. Since then, blockages in my arteries were stented and I was able to come off my beta blockers. I stopped them immediately, because nobody believed 1.25mg would cause a problem. WRONG. I had palpitations, and felt nauseous and found it very hard to breathe. My Doctor made me start them again.
I've taken metoprolol for six days for high blood pressure, it made me feel lousy, groggy and gave me headaches. I want to stop it cold turkey, my doctor says its ok with such a small dose but I am a huge worrier and would like to know if anyone had any side effects when stopping even after taking it for such a short period of time??
Research on the web says that Atenolol is much longer lasting than Metoprolol and suggests that Metoprolol Tartrate has to be taken twice a day... Atenolol only once ! Strangle, again, my Cardiologist who issued a prescription for Atenolol upon my request to be allowed to try it is for 25 mg twice a day.
Went to dr, couple of months ago for headaches, he said your overweight and have high blood pressure. Sent me to cardiac dr. who did stress test and ekg, plus carotid artery test. he said to lose weight. started off taking metoprolol er, once a day, then found out that twice a day was on 4 dollar plan at kroger. started prescription on 8/5/08 two weeks later was in the er for kidney stones, and then I developed weird symptoms.
I have been taking metoprolol and diltiazem for sixteen months and initially the medications brought the SVTs under control. Fourteen months ago I started coughing blood and experiencing chest congestion. This took my attention off any heart issues and sent me on a long search for the cause of the bleeding. After many tests and visits with various specialists I never did get the answer. The bleeding resolved itself after 10 months (last October) and has not reappeared.
com report, consumers have experienced increased blood pressure, increased heart rate and ectopic beats, as well as side effects such as nausea, dizziness and headaches when switched from Toprol XL to Metoprolol Succinate ER. ConsumerLab.com noted that the Sandoz formulation of the product is different from Toprol XL and dissolves in a different manner.
Since end of October I am not on metoprolol and I still have hair loss but not as bad as before. as of today I have lost almost half my hair. I am taking biotin, vitamin c, blood builder (which has iron and small amount of B12), inositol (I started to take this for pcos since june), zinc-copper. I am worried about when this hair loss will stop and Will I be able to get my hair back? will the lost hair regrow? what do you advise?
Migraine headaches that start for the first time over the age of 40 years are suspicious and should be fully evaluated for another cause ie MRI etc. I do not know how old your daughterin law is.
I have a bicuspid aortic valve and am currently taking 25mg of metoprolol to reduce the wear on my valves, but I do NOT have high blood pressure. I've also been gasping in my sleep and am constantly fatigued. I currently have an appointment with a sleep doctor. To investigate. I'm not too sure where to post this since it seems like a wide range of things could cause my symptoms. Someone suggested I might just have really bad allergies. But how could that cause neck pain?
Prosthetic Valves and INR--Avoiding Headaches posted by J.D. on January 25, 1999 at 17:28:41: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear J.D., I have never heard of a link between INR levels and headaches. The risk of too low of an INR is blood clots, strokes, and thrombosed valve. Therefore I would not try to base therapy on whether she has a headache or not.
So my BP since Monday has ran 189/124 or 188/123.. I had extreme headaches and dull arm pain, back. It would switch arms. I got my BP down today all the way to 133/99 by taking 40 mg instead of 20 mg benicar. But when I take a deep breath I have pain in my left side under my rib cage. Im worried because I have never had this kind of pain before. I cant tell if my lungs hurt or its my chest...I have fibro.. so pain in my neck and jaw are pretty normal.. no fever.. I am 28 not obese.
I have never been diag with headaches but have sinsus issues and what I thought were migraines. You could see my vein on the left side above my eye towards my hair line pulsating, does this symbolize anything? Also I am now on blood pressure meds Diovan 160 mg 2x Daily, Adalat 90 mg, hctz 25 mg and low dose asprin......is this needed, not needed and will these be something I always have to take even if I lower my BP? Anything I can do to lower bp outside of lose weight.
I have noticed I'm still tachy 120's at times and up into the 150s. The worst part is I'm having horrid headaches and otc meds don't touch the pain. Right now I'm doing a 24 hr event monitor to evaluate the need for additional ablation with possible pacer placement. Getting frustrated because I can't keep up with my three kids and work (ER RN) due to my arrythmia. Anyone else have similar issues?? Needing some support and understanding!
My neurologist has given up on being able to put me back on Propranolol for the time being (since my heart issues are unresolved and I'm staying on Metoprolol), and he was a bit flabbergasted about what to do next, so I suggested that I try Topamax again...I felt like I was too quick to dismiss it at first. He agreed that as long as I didn't have any serious side effects, it would be fine to try again, so that's what I'm doing. Seems to be alright.
the dizziness my headaches, and the ill feeling hopefully
Im wondering if any of you ladies have been in my situation and stayed on the metoprolol throughtout your pregnancy and how did things turn out?? Typically I live a very normal life when I'm on my medication, if I don't have it...I'm bedridden. my heart rate will be 200 and I will not be able to stand after just stopping the medication for one day. Please weigh in and let me know if you have any experience with this. Thank you!! Also, has anyone tried Labetelol? They want to switch me to that..
Last week I had office visit and my BP was 150/90. My doctor then put me on metaprolol. I started getting headaches every day. My BP remained at 150 to 160 over 90 to 100. After an office visit today she ordered hydralazine be added to my growing list of meds. Someone ( a friend who is an RN) suggested it was rebound hyper tension due to stopping the HCTZ all at once and putting me on a beta blocker at the same time. Has anyone ever gone through this.
tachycardia with lightheadedness. Taking Metoprolol 25 and cut it in half and then take a half of a half when I feel irreg heart beat. BP is low normally. The lightheadedness is driving me crazy along with the palp's! Been to Endocrinologist & Cardiologist. Endocrin states not from thyroid. Cardio states I have an electrical prob and wants to do a cath and zap the problem. I think they are all crazy. Anyone out there have a similar situation that you can give me some insight? Thanks!
I did start an extensive exercise/diet program ( no fads or drugs, just watching what I eat with lots of cardio) 4 months ago and lost over 30 lbs and was feeling better and stronger than I had in many years. Went to have it checked out and all tests came back within normal limits except for mild hypertension for which atenolol was prescribed in low dose. It seemed that this drug lowered my pulse rate even lower to around 50 and I felt like a slug.
But i watch my hubby and he holds his lft arm sometimes up across his chest and has bad headaches all the time. They checked his legs last time they were fine. He is 62. I just feel something is being missed. Thank you for being here. cwbblb.
I am presently waiting for a date. However, I have found that beta blockers seem to help with the frequency and intensity of my headaches. Doesnt take them completely away but I dont seem to have them as often. I hope this helps. Again, welcome and I hope you find as much good information and support here as I have.
I had been checked countless times for the past 3 or 4 years. Recently, I was told they are PAC's and PVC's. After all this time, they finally tell me? Pathetic. So, I have had all the testing, the monitors, the elctrocardiogram, tredmill run, etc. The cardiologists all tell me nothing is wrong with my heart. I don't believe them, I feel like dying from it all the time, I feel them everyday! I still work out and train, as I am a Pro Wrestler!
