Avatar n tn I appreciate your taking time to respond. And I am really sorry to hear about your Mother. You are right. He is very frustrated about not being able to do the things that he enjoyed doing before, and especially the biking. He mentions it several times per day. I know that emotionally he needs it, but am fearful that physically it could "do him in". Am taking him in to talk with a CHF specialist and neurologist.
1017020 tn?1251253324 My Mom died last year during a heart cath procedure and on her autopsy report under other causes to death they listed CHF and COPD. I just turned 22 today and was wondering if there is a chance that I might end up with either of these and if so if there is any prevention I can take now to limit my chances of getting it. Thank you.
Avatar n tn s basically every other day. I also take L-Carnatine 500mg Tue and Fri, Zinc and Magnesium on Monday, and CoQ10 100mg twice daily. Of course every person is different so you need to experiment. The most important thing, monitor yourself, there are those heart rate/O2 monitors and wrist-cuff blood pressure monitors available for about $15 each on that big online reseller named after that river in S. America.
Avatar f tn I don't know whether this will help, or not, but I'm 56 years old and have had CHF for about 3 years. The most important part of care is to make absolute postive sure that your mother is prescribed the medication she needs and that it is taken EVERYDAY. The reason for the CHF has to be determined by her doctors, then the proper medications dispensed. In my case, they started me out on 40 mg. of lasix, 25 mg. Coreg 2x day, 90 mg. Diltiazem 2 x per day. I am now taking 140 mg.
Avatar m tn Every time I complained, the cardiologist increased the dosage of the Metoprolol. Now, in addition to CHF, I have COPD and diabetes. I finally convinced him to stop the Metoprolol but it was too late to reverse the other damage. If you haven't already done so, go to some safe Web sites and see if you can find some ideas to follow up on with a medical specialist. Be aggressive -- and keep us informed of your progress.
323615 tn?1226193396 hi, my husband has end stage chf and he sleeps a lot, and all night,he seems exhausted all day, but no severe coughing.
Avatar m tn There are a few beta blockers with evidence in heart failure -- they are carvedilol, metoprolol XL, and bisoprolol (not really used in the US). Atenolol does not have any data to support its use in heart failure, so I would recommend a different agent (one of the above). Which one to choose depends on your blood pressure and ability to take twice daily dosing vs once daily. Chlorthalidone is a perfectly fine diuretic, if you have blood pressure room to tolerate it.
Avatar m tn I have been through the nausea and vomitting, and severe swelling from the CHF, and now I do dialysis 6 days a week. Considering where I was a year ago, I feel healthy. I hope this helps......
Avatar f tn I am experiencing a great deal of pitting edema in my legs (all the way to the hip), ankles, and feet. They hurt. I am so tired I fell asleep driving yesterday and almost hit someone head on. It makes no difference how much sleep I get, I am still exhausted. I seem to be swelling about the chest also. My bra is loose in the morning and cutting into me by noon. I had this swelling last year in April and I have had it in the past several times.
898849 tn?1241811271 It is very important to get these shots especially if you have CHF. My mom had CHF and always got these shots. The pneumonia shot lasts 15 years. People who have CHF are more prone to getting pneumonia. It does not cover every strain of pneumonia, but covers quite a bit.
Avatar n tn At the ER last month, I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and pneumonia based on a X-Ray, CT Scan, Pro-BNP test, and an EKG. My EKG was abnormal (enlarged heart, etc.) and my Pro-BNP test score was 4996, which from what I have seen, is very high. I was very swollen and my oxygen level was low (70%). They gave me a bunch of medications including a diuretic. All of this made sense when I looked into it, because I have EVERY symptom of CHF.
Avatar f tn I have COPD and CHF and had a stent put in two year's ago and found out it is now 60% blocked. I am concerned because I had been told because of COPD, not a candidate for surgery. So, my question is can they put another stent in or what or the possibilities now?
Avatar n tn Is DCm and CHF synonymous as the ER Dr. suggested? No. CHF is the state of being congested and short of breath. People can have DCM and not be in CHF, most patients are in this state when they are not sick. What would a prognosis be based on his age, symptoms,EF, and lack of other health issue? THis is hard to tell, he needs further in depth evaluation by a CHF specialist.
Avatar f tn I am diagnosed with restrictive cardiomyopathy, CHF and severe regurgitation of mitral and tricuspid valves. I was given metoprolol 25mg twice a day to control heart rate, which only brought it to around 99-102 resting.
1027737 tn?1253103788 Hi, Can someone tell me what the difference between Metoprolol and Metoprolol Tartrate is? Thank You in advance!
Avatar f tn It's not CHF unless your EF% drops below 30%. Nothing you mention would make me believe you are on CHF either. Your chest pains are not typical for heart disease as pains that last long periods of time or over days are not generally heart related. The lazy heart muscle is called hypokinesis and means just what he said, your heart muscle is not contracting as hard as it should. In your case it's global hypokinesis which means over the entire heart. Are you on any meds?
Avatar n tn Do you have a diagnosis of CHF? This is NOT meant to imply that you do, but it helps to better understand your situation regarding hemodynamic stability.
Avatar m tn About 4 years ago I found that I had CHF caused by A-Fib. My a-Fib is constant, it's just always irregular. I don't have periods in which I feel the A-Fib come on. The A-Fib started a vicious cycle, it caused me to retain fluid which then inhibited my heart even more, which caused me to retain more fluid. My EF was under 20%. They got the fluid out of me in the hospital over 8 days and put me on Wafarin, Carvedilol, Enalapril, and 80mg of Furosemide once a day.
Avatar m tn Ive read so many warnings about the two together Im a mess worrying--Thank you * Hepkitty* I have been on valium 25 yrs so not a good time to quit it--Please tell me this is ok-- I sleep a lot but been thinking it is chf--I take 2 mgs in am and 2mgs in pm of valium and 120 mgs long acting Cardizem in am
Avatar n tn I agree 100% that you need to change doctors right away! First off if she only had time for one issue on this visit, she will only have time for one visit on the next!!! Your swollen feet and ankles could most certainly be from CHF and you don't want to fool around with that at all! Do yourself a favor and find an internal medicine physician. When you make the doctor appointment, ask them what their usual wait time is and you can bet if they tell you an hour or more, keep searching!
Avatar n tn My electrophysiologist recently put me on a beta blocker (Metoprolol) 25 mg twice a day for hypertension and a ton of other symptoms he said must be due to Neurocardiogenic Syncope. I was diagnosed with asthma a couple years ago and it seems as if the beta blocker is causing shortness of breath and a feeling that seems similar to how I feel after exercising, a sort of chest tightness I would say. Is this common for beta blockers to do to people with asthma?
Avatar n tn My mom has CHF and her heart has a moderate EF and the doctor says that she should think about having a heart transplant. As scary as that sounds to her she is thinking about doing it. I want to ask if she doesent get it done than will she have a chance at living with heart for the next 5 years? And how secure is a Heart surgery..I am scared that she will not wake up and if so how well do people live after they have had a heart implant?
Avatar n tn He has the shakes so bad he cannot eat, becuase he cannot eat he is losing his appetite and strength. They put him on a beta-blocker Metoprolol. He coughs so bad he chokes.
789402 tn?1243630044 you can go to the cleveland clinic website and actually pose direct questions about all this and any thing else i gather concerning CHF. he told me there is a cardiac nurse who answers all your questions, give it a try.
Avatar f tn Hi, I was diagnosed in a ER with CHF a couple of weeks ago and the cardiologist I am to see is on vacation. I was placed on lisinopril, lasix, and propanolol as a preventive by my PCP while waiting. I have been coughing lately and I saw somewheres that coughing may be a lisinopril warning sign. Is this correct. I do not see the heart doctor until next friday for final diagnosis and future planning. Thank you in advance.
