Metolazone with lasix

Common Questions and Answers about Metolazone with lasix

skelaxin

Avatar m tn I have a question regarding the diuretic Metolazone. As background, my father is quite elderly at 85, suffering for the last five years from congestive heart failure (CHF) following two heart attacks 10 years ago. His condition has been treated successfully to date by use of lasix diuretic.
Avatar m tn Two weeks ago, he gained water weight, and lasix did not work. The doctor prescribed Metolazone, a more powerful diuretic. This removed water, but from about 2 days after he started Metolazone, he began a downward spiral. He developed a potassium shortage, treated by a supplement. Metolazone was stopped, but he has become too weak to walk, and his thoughts are clouded. His water weight is normal.
Avatar n tn He was in the hospital 5 days, rehab 5 days and back in the hospital for 5 days. Now he is home. (1 day). jrbon, in addition to the 80mg lasix, the doctor added metolazone 10mg two days a week. neurotic, and icd is a defibulator in Burt's chest. Thanks again for the answers. We like our doctors, but it is nice to have someone who is experiencing the same thing answer.
789402 tn?1243630044 i've just started taking metolazone to improve my breathing, i can hardly walk 1/2 block without having to stop. it seems that the breathing has gotten a bit better, but i've been hit with bouts of dizziness and fatigue hits me hard. i was wondering if anyone else out there is taking it and what type of reaction you may be having, good or bad.
408795 tn?1324935675 I appreciate your answering my questions about swelling as the subject doesn't come up much. I started taking my 75mgs of spironlactone along with my 20mgs of lasix and I'm already feeling better. I'm gonna have my doctor give me the 40mg lasix tabs as I know I can use them. Thanks a million and take care of yourself amigo!!
Avatar f tn t t help much has put on 6 kg over the past week which is all fluid.
Avatar n tn They used to have me on 3 diuretics a day, Lasix, spironolactone, and metolazone. They stopped working, and I wasnt peeing hardly and kept getting pancreatitis. So, I stopped taking all of them. I didnt get worse, but I havent gotten better either, I just dont have the horrible gut wrenching pain shooting out my back any longer. What is also weird, is I potty every 30 -45 minutes at night, and not much during the day. This is very fatigueing for me.
Avatar n tn My dog has been diagnosed with congestive heart failure. She is on lasix twice a day and enalapril. She began to cough a bit again tonight. She is about 70 pounds. Can I safely give her two more pills of lasix?
Avatar f tn No Lasix,it would be dangerous since this kitty also has renal problems, it would dehydrate her too much. It s not REAL baf , I mean the percardial effusion, in which case it would be mandatory, just gives her at times difficult breathing. Only sometimes , though.
Avatar n tn What is the correct lasix dosage for a 75 pound doberman pincher? He has congestion from an enlarged heart (dilated cardiomyopathy -DCM ) and is taking two 5mg tablets of Vetmedin (Pimobendan) 2x daily and 20mg Benaepril once daily. Any suggestions regarding treatment? We spent much $ and lost 2 loved dobies several years ago (and nearly did him) before our recent discovery of DCM-- which seems to kill most dobies.
Avatar n tn Since it was after hours at the vet , we got an appointment for the next day. The vet said he had fluid in his lungs and put him on Lasix and that he was in heart failure. When we took him to the vet a year ago , all that I was told was that his heartbeat was too fast , and was put on Enalapril. When we took him back to the vet (a different vet then from the first time) 4 days ago , was the first time we heard of our dog having heart failure. This is the weekend and neither vets are in.
Avatar m tn It would be interesting o see if discontinuing a medication would help and I would start with Lasix. You are on quite a lot of medication and it may be the combination that's the problem.
Avatar f tn They started her on pimobendan, lasix, and enalapril. She was taking her meds easily with apple sauce but 2 days after starting it she was coughing even more than normal and not going outside more than usual. I was worried because of the lasix and got in touch with the vet. They said that was unusual. I lowered the amount of lasix because I was worried that it was harming her when she started refusing to take all of the meds and threw them up if we gave them to her.
670955 tn?1226597900 My dog was just diagnosed with congestive heart failure yesterday and he was put on 50mg lasix twice a day as needed. He is 12 years old and weighs 121 lbs. His Vet said we were starting at the lowest dosage. Tonight he is coughing/gagging a lot, which is why I took him to see the Vet. He will eat enough grass for a cow or two if I let him. I have not seen him drinking as much as I thought he would, nor has he been urinating more than normal.
Avatar f tn Thank you for replying to my post. My husband took Molly to the Vet on Tues to be checked. Because of where her heart murmur is, she is collecting fluid in her belly - but that is better than around her lungs. Her heart is about twice the normal size. The Vet drained the fluid - Molly went from weighing 11.8 lbs to 10.2 after the fluid was drained. My husband and I could tell soon after that she felt much better. The doctor also increased her Enalipril and Lasix.
Avatar m tn If you are allergic to ethacrynic acid can you be allergic to Lasix? Symptoms are bad taste in mouth when eating and can't eat as well as some abdominal pain at times. My mother went through this last year when placed on Ethacrnic acid and when taken off appetite came back. She had lost over 20 lbs. Now she is on Lasix since Nov and having same symptoms. She is also allergic to sulfa.
Avatar f tn t imagine why your vet would put a cat with compromised kidney function on lasix, which is dehydrating. Cats need MORE fluids to get rid of the waste build-up from poorly functioning kidneys. Does your cat have a heart problem, too? That's the only explanation that I can come up with for the lasix.
294425 tn?1288528395 s only due to Lasix flushing some out. He said because PTH is not affected by Lasix, my body is still constantly being flooded with too much calcium, and that's why I still feel awful. Is that correct? I feel like a big whiner. Sorry this is so long - thank you for your time and any insight you may have.
Avatar n tn My 88 yr old dad was diagnosed with CHF approx. 2 yrs ago. He has a pacemaker/defibulator. One of his meds are Lasix 10mg daily. He went for a checkup recently (not his regular cardiologist) and had a chest x-ray done. Results showed some fluid. He was told to double up on his Lasix. What could be causing this fluid build up and is it safe to increase Lasix? My concern is that he saw his regular cardiologist approx 1 month ago.
Avatar n tn accidents are more likely to be due to Lasix. It takes about 30 minutes to one hour for lasix to act, especially with subsequent doses the time is about 30 minutes or less. This urgency to pass urine after Lasix also depends on the fluids consumed in the hours before the tablet, and amount of displaced fluid in the body. The action varies from individuals to individuals.
Avatar n tn lasix can most definately cause dehydration!
Avatar f tn My 13 year old Lab was just diagnosed with CHF. Prior to that, our vet put her on Pronin for a bladder issue that worked and solves that issue. However, now we reduced the Pronin because of the Lasix, now the Pronin isn't working like it should, of course because of the Lasix. I'm guessing we will be looking at a trade off situation. Will she be in pain if we ask our vet to take her off the Lasix? Or maybe she could go back to her full dose of Pronin?
Avatar n tn If the Lasix does not work, usually the next thing is kidney dialysis. Kidney dialysis has risks with CHF patients. The blood pressure can drop too low and the liver can be affected. Lasix is best if his kidneys are still working.
Avatar n tn After reading just a few comments I see that my 14 year old Lab may have heart failure as well with the hacking clearing throat cough (hairball comes to mind) and now is on Lasix in spite of vet saying his heart is fine. He had terrible allergic type hot spots, licking of legs and raw rash all over in summer early Fall as did other pets around here- everyone was told it was from wet weather, red tide whatever. nothing helped, shampoos, benedryl etc and finally was put on daily cortisone.
Avatar m tn Pimobendan (Vetmedin), when used in conjunction with Lasix, offers a much better treatment plan than simply using an ACE inhibitor alone. Two things to remember are to always make sure your dog has access to lots of fresh water because the Lasix is going to make her drink (and pee) a lot more. DO NOT, no matter what, restrict her access to water from here on in.
7569019 tn?1460135460 My husband is on lasix with swollen legs. lasix is used to drain the water out of your system. You don't want to ever drink alot of water when you are on lasix because you are already swollen with water. and always elevate your feet. My husband started out with 20 mg and when his water was not draining he went to 40 mg. He has diabetes so he is now at 80 mg of lasix which is helping him, on another thought, too much lasik is bad for you.
Avatar m tn How soon can I resume her Lasix pill (if she will take it) after having received the Lasix injection?
Avatar n tn Hi Terri, Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. I am very sorry to hear about your situation. I know this won't make you feel better but we often hear about failed UA Drug Screens. In my opinion there are two things going on here... One, the inaccuracy of UA Drug Screens. Failure rate is high and usually attributed to human error in the testing process. Two, the need of PMP/Clinics to protect themselves and their licenses. Add the two together and your situation is the result.
