Avatar n tn If he is taking it for long time some insensitivity can be developed. I personally had to switch from Furosemide to Torasemide when the Furosemide no longer worked. Other people change to Bumetadine. In any case we aware that the doses are not the same.

Avatar m tn I have a question regarding the diuretic Metolazone. As background, my father is quite elderly at 85, suffering for the last five years from congestive heart failure (CHF) following two heart attacks 10 years ago. His condition has been treated successfully to date by use of lasix diuretic.
Avatar m tn Two weeks ago, he gained water weight, and lasix did not work. The doctor prescribed Metolazone, a more powerful diuretic. This removed water, but from about 2 days after he started Metolazone, he began a downward spiral. He developed a potassium shortage, treated by a supplement. Metolazone was stopped, but he has become too weak to walk, and his thoughts are clouded. His water weight is normal.
Avatar f tn We have been advised by the doctor to give my mom 20mg furosemide through iv for 3 days because of edema, today was her last day and her bp was 130/50, the doctor told us that her bp should not be lower than 90/60, but we still gave her medcation since her normal should be around 110/60, was it a good idea or a bad one that we administered her furosemide with bp reading of 130/50?
Avatar m tn Hi I am a caregiver to my step dad who is 65. He came to live with us last June because his health was quickly declining. He has CHF, has suffered 9 small heart attacks, has type 2 diabetes, and stage 4 renal failure witha slew of other issues. He was admitted to ICU last Wed and came home Fri after suffering a small heart attack due to a virus that caused a CHF flare up.
Avatar m tn Now only take Furosemide 40 mg once a day. Does Furosemide 40 mg can cause kidney damage?

Avatar n tn My old Akita (going on 16) had a cough for about 2 mos that my vet originally through was kennel cough. . However, since it didn't disappear, he put him on 20 mg of Furosemide 3 days ago and the cough has since stopped. I understand Furosemide is a powerful diuretic so I'm wondering if this will harm him in the long run even though his condition has improved. FYI, Kita (the Akita) also developed a heart murmur about 4 years ago.
Avatar m tn To resolve some of the gastrointestinal complaints, Lasix (Furosemide) should be taken with food or a glass of milk however; this can affect the diuretic effects of the medication. I would discuss the side effect with your doctor and see if there is a possibility that the medication can be changed.
1683804 tn?1305165973 Vitamin C is also a diuretic. Try taking 1000 mg of vitamin C a day (crystaline, with food) to reduce the amount of furosemide required. I am pleased you are going back to a physician. Do not hesitate to ask him/her questions.
Avatar f tn There are people on this forum who are very knowledgeable who will fill you in with more and better information, so stay tuned in. It would help if you could give more detailed information about your mom. Her current lifestyle, how long she has been ill, what sort of medical treatment she has received if any and her general location. I wish you and your mother all the best.
4856858 tn?1365378777 I agree with Idyllic that the Lasix (Furosemide) will 'probably' make you urinate a lot. I say 'probably,' because it did not make me urinate any more than normal. Lower extremity swelling can be cause by a lot of things.... renal, cardiac, and others. Plus I am certain that mine was due to the Hep C drugs, probably Interferon. In your case, my question would be, did your doctor try to find out why you are having the lower extremity swelling?
Avatar m tn Could anyone tell me if they have had this problem with furosemide? I have an appointment with my doctor on Tuesday, but if I go into this severe pain again tonight, I'm heading to the emergency room. It only comes on when I lay down and fall asleep. Any help???
Avatar m tn My grandmother takes water pills and she gave me something stronger. Furosemide. So far this is the best thing to have work. Not 100% as i still fluctuate back and forth in weight because of water. But it is giving me some relief. But down side is it's depleting my body of potassium and causing some wicked charlie horses. I don't know what to do. Doctor says nothing is wrong but obviously there is.
Avatar m tn Furosemide 40 mg and spironolactone 25 mg. Should I take both at once or take both the same day at different times or discontinue one? Did anyone can share your experience?
1693532 tn?1306256278 Oh, I'm so sorry to read this. It's a 15 week old puppy? Does the Vet know what is causing this? Is it a congenital (problem he was born with) condition? I would have absolutely no idea what to advise you as I have no idea what might be wrong. You have to rely on your Vet's professional opinion and treatment plan. Yes, fluid can be drained from the lungs and the Furosemide is a diuretic used to reduce the swelling and fluid retention usually due to heart or liver problems.
Avatar m tn Then was given Cefuroxime, Linezolid antibiotic, corex syp and metolazone diuretics when partially conscious. He didnt eat much drank 50 ml water in last 14 hours and nothing after that. Avatar m tn My 14yr old Jack Russell has CHF and is on Furosemide and Enalalapril. She still is coughing so much at night we are getting very little sleep. She was on a higher dosage but it left her so lethargic she had no quality of life and was still coughing. She is back on the lower dosage and seems more her old self but the coughing never changes. Has anyone else had any success in calming the coughing at Night? My husband and I both have very demanding jobs and the lack of sleep is having an effect.
