Metolazone lasix

Common Questions and Answers about Metolazone lasix

skelaxin

Avatar m tn I have a question regarding the diuretic Metolazone. As background, my father is quite elderly at 85, suffering for the last five years from congestive heart failure (CHF) following two heart attacks 10 years ago. His condition has been treated successfully to date by use of lasix diuretic.
Avatar m tn Two weeks ago, he gained water weight, and lasix did not work. The doctor prescribed Metolazone, a more powerful diuretic. This removed water, but from about 2 days after he started Metolazone, he began a downward spiral. He developed a potassium shortage, treated by a supplement. Metolazone was stopped, but he has become too weak to walk, and his thoughts are clouded. His water weight is normal.
Avatar n tn He was in the hospital 5 days, rehab 5 days and back in the hospital for 5 days. Now he is home. (1 day). jrbon, in addition to the 80mg lasix, the doctor added metolazone 10mg two days a week. neurotic, and icd is a defibulator in Burt's chest. Thanks again for the answers. We like our doctors, but it is nice to have someone who is experiencing the same thing answer.
789402 tn?1243630044 i've just started taking metolazone to improve my breathing, i can hardly walk 1/2 block without having to stop. it seems that the breathing has gotten a bit better, but i've been hit with bouts of dizziness and fatigue hits me hard. i was wondering if anyone else out there is taking it and what type of reaction you may be having, good or bad.
408795 tn?1324935675 ve been prescribed lasix and spironolactone and it helps but it only helps to get me to go to the bathroom more I don't really think it minimizes the swelling. Anyways I have two questions for y'all as I know there's at least two other ppl on this forum who take these direutics. 1. What if the Lasix stops working, is there another direutic I can take that you know about? 2.
Avatar f tn The GP contacted the heart failure Specialist who advised increasing spironolactone to 50 mg and if weight still increased he could take a metolazone every 2 nd day if necessary . Ihave worked out that if he has some salted peanuts small amount that the cramps are much reduced . But thank you both for your advice it is much appreciated.
Avatar n tn They used to have me on 3 diuretics a day, Lasix, spironolactone, and metolazone. They stopped working, and I wasnt peeing hardly and kept getting pancreatitis. So, I stopped taking all of them. I didnt get worse, but I havent gotten better either, I just dont have the horrible gut wrenching pain shooting out my back any longer. What is also weird, is I potty every 30 -45 minutes at night, and not much during the day. This is very fatigueing for me.
Avatar n tn What is the correct lasix dosage for a 75 pound doberman pincher? He has congestion from an enlarged heart (dilated cardiomyopathy -DCM ) and is taking two 5mg tablets of Vetmedin (Pimobendan) 2x daily and 20mg Benaepril once daily. Any suggestions regarding treatment? We spent much $ and lost 2 loved dobies several years ago (and nearly did him) before our recent discovery of DCM-- which seems to kill most dobies.
Avatar n tn Yestersday, the vet prescribed very mild dosage of lasix for my dog and should I start giving her lasix now or should I wait till her steriod to wear off ( when she stop shivering and panting)? Vet is afraid lasix may cause her pancreatitise to come back again if given larger dose. When dogs are given lasix does it means the pet do not live that long? Please advise. Thank you for helping.
Avatar m tn If you are allergic to ethacrynic acid can you be allergic to Lasix? Symptoms are bad taste in mouth when eating and can't eat as well as some abdominal pain at times. My mother went through this last year when placed on Ethacrnic acid and when taken off appetite came back. She had lost over 20 lbs. Now she is on Lasix since Nov and having same symptoms. She is also allergic to sulfa.
Avatar f tn My cat was diagnosed with impaired renal function (stage II) and was put on a fluid therapy on saline 0,9% and Lasix. As a result of the use of lasix, the vet suspects she has became severely hypokalemic and she will be placed on potassium supplement therapy once her blood work is confirmed which unfortunately may take another 12 hours. At the moment she is lethargic, has no appetite and unable to walk around but at least she is alive.
Avatar n tn He has a pacemaker/defibulator. One of his meds are Lasix 10mg daily. He went for a checkup recently (not his regular cardiologist) and had a chest x-ray done. Results showed some fluid. He was told to double up on his Lasix. What could be causing this fluid build up and is it safe to increase Lasix? My concern is that he saw his regular cardiologist approx 1 month ago.
Avatar n tn accidents are more likely to be due to Lasix. It takes about 30 minutes to one hour for lasix to act, especially with subsequent doses the time is about 30 minutes or less. This urgency to pass urine after Lasix also depends on the fluids consumed in the hours before the tablet, and amount of displaced fluid in the body. The action varies from individuals to individuals.
Avatar n tn lasix can most definately cause dehydration!
Avatar m tn How soon can I resume her Lasix pill (if she will take it) after having received the Lasix injection?
Avatar f tn My 13 year old Lab was just diagnosed with CHF. Prior to that, our vet put her on Pronin for a bladder issue that worked and solves that issue. However, now we reduced the Pronin because of the Lasix, now the Pronin isn't working like it should, of course because of the Lasix. I'm guessing we will be looking at a trade off situation. Will she be in pain if we ask our vet to take her off the Lasix? Or maybe she could go back to her full dose of Pronin?
Avatar f tn dr just said from the lungs....prescribed daily lasix of 20mg but take more if needed. The lasix never seemed to do much.....and if it reduced it we hardly noticed that much of a difference. He got to a point of not taking it and discovered that when he didn't take it the edema seemed to go down quite a bit. Then he'd get nervous about not taking it and would start it up again and the edema came back quite a bit. Dr just says to keep taking it and up it if necessary.........
Avatar n tn Why would a hospital refuse to do a thoracentesis when the fluids are worse today than when he was first admitted on 12/31/08. Two weeks ago they did a thoracentesis the day after he was admitted and he was much relieved. He was discharged three days later feeling much better. He was readmitted today, given one i.v. dose of 120 mg Lasix and that's it. They are offering no other treatment and are discharging him tomorrow. Have they given up on him or what?
Avatar n tn After reading just a few comments I see that my 14 year old Lab may have heart failure as well with the hacking clearing throat cough (hairball comes to mind) and now is on Lasix in spite of vet saying his heart is fine. He had terrible allergic type hot spots, licking of legs and raw rash all over in summer early Fall as did other pets around here- everyone was told it was from wet weather, red tide whatever. nothing helped, shampoos, benedryl etc and finally was put on daily cortisone.
Avatar m tn Furosemide (Lasix) is what is known as a loop diuretic because it works in small loops found in the filtering apparatus of the kidneys. Pimobendan (Vetmedin), when used in conjunction with Lasix, offers a much better treatment plan than simply using an ACE inhibitor alone. Two things to remember are to always make sure your dog has access to lots of fresh water because the Lasix is going to make her drink (and pee) a lot more.
Avatar m tn Is there a substitute in the U.S. for Lasix? I am taking lasix to prevent swelling in the lungs. I have a very small swelling in my legs (near my ankle) currently. TheLightSeeker On the Medication, I will have to look back and see what I was on before surgery if I still have the records-I probably don't have those. I do know the cause is not Digoxin. I do remember I was on Metoprolol Tartrate before surgery. I can't remember if I was on Lasix though.
7569019 tn?1460135460 My husband is on lasix with swollen legs. lasix is used to drain the water out of your system. You don't want to ever drink alot of water when you are on lasix because you are already swollen with water. and always elevate your feet. My husband started out with 20 mg and when his water was not draining he went to 40 mg. He has diabetes so he is now at 80 mg of lasix which is helping him, on another thought, too much lasik is bad for you.
Avatar f tn I was just told that I have Diastolic Heart Failure. BNP is 900, EF 50%. They just told me to continue my lasix, limit fluids, eat low sodium diet, and sent me home. Now I'm sitting here with my head spinning, thinking "What the heck just happened?" How do you stage heart failure? After reading about a BNP of 900 that makes it sound like I am already pretty advanced into this. But yet if I still have a EF of 50% then I'm only in the early stage? I'm confused. Where am I?
Avatar n tn i explained that i take lasix prescribed by them i started having a clean ua once they upped my lasix mg from 40 to 80. what can i do? if i dont take lasix then i cant urine at all. By the way my pm dr is just a physician assistant.
Avatar n tn During Sept of that year I had to be re-admitted as I had a lot of fluid retention (swelling of legs, abdominal area and face). Cardio gave me IV Lasix and after 4 days of treatment I had to take Lasix pil daily. I am now 3 years post-op and I take Lasix when I have fluid retention. I still get fluid retention, but it is now only once a month or so. OHS is a very big operation and it takes your heart and body almost 2 years to get completely over it.
Avatar f tn No Lasix,it would be dangerous since this kitty also has renal problems, it would dehydrate her too much. It s not REAL baf , I mean the percardial effusion, in which case it would be mandatory, just gives her at times difficult breathing. Only sometimes , though.
Avatar f tn i take lasix 80 mg daily ,i need to know if that will cause me to test negative for my norco 10s and my xanax on a random ua?
Avatar m tn Then was given Cefuroxime, Linezolid antibiotic, corex syp and metolazone diuretics when partially conscious. He didnt eat much drank 50 ml water in last 14 hours and nothing after that. Later in the evening his oxygen was down to 70 SpO2. In 1.5 hours he was given oxygen with oxygen machine and the oxygen started to increase in a bit. In an hour heartrate started to fluctuate BP was almost NR. The patient suffered cardiac arrest few minutes later. The patient wasn't a major heart patient.
