Avatar m tn About two weeks ago, he gained a lot of water weight, and the normal lasix did not remove the water. Instead of hospitalizing him, the doctor prescribed Metolazone, a more powerful diuretic. This worked to remove the excess water, but from about two days after he started taking that drug, he began a downward spiral. Aside from the normal dizziness experienced on this drug, he developed a severe potassium shortage, which was treated by a potassium supplement.

Avatar m tn His feet and legs look like they are going to burst. He went to the doctor last week and they increased his lasix - 160 mg twice a day. No change to the edema. He went back yesterday and they prescribed Metolazone (diuretic). He took one this morning at 7:00 am and at 10:00 am he had not noticed any increase in urination. He also went to his cardiologist yesterday who said he did have fluid around his heart (cause of the coughing) but agreed with the diuretic prescription.
Avatar n tn He has been on a lasix iv drip for almost 72 hours now and is finally feeling better and breathing well. My question is, how can he keep the water off at home? Lasix at home is not working well. His kidneys are ok, not perfect, but ok. The doctor does not want to increase the oral lasix because of kidney damage, but if something can't be done, what does he do? Go to the hospital about every 5 days, stay for 3 days while he gets lasix iv, go home and start the cycle all over?
408795 tn?1324935675 ve been prescribed lasix and spironolactone and it helps but it only helps to get me to go to the bathroom more I don't really think it minimizes the swelling. Anyways I have two questions for y'all as I know there's at least two other ppl on this forum who take these direutics. 1. What if the Lasix stops working, is there another direutic I can take that you know about? 2.
Avatar f tn s much appreciated he sees his GP weekly also has weekly bloods for kidney function and potassium he is also under the heart failure specialist who increased his spironolactone to 50 mg and said he could take a metolazone every second day if his weight was still going up he has done this once and his weight has gone down to 78 kg I have worked out if he has some salted peanuts small amount that this really improves things.
Avatar n tn They used to have me on 3 diuretics a day, Lasix, spironolactone, and metolazone. They stopped working, and I wasnt peeing hardly and kept getting pancreatitis. So, I stopped taking all of them. I didnt get worse, but I havent gotten better either, I just dont have the horrible gut wrenching pain shooting out my back any longer. What is also weird, is I potty every 30 -45 minutes at night, and not much during the day. This is very fatigueing for me.
Avatar n tn My kidney doc prescribed lasix 20 mg a day. After about a month ago. Recently I become ill and weak. I went to my internists. Bloodwork showed my kidney function down to 17% down from 24% in 4 months. The tests also showed dehydration. So lasix was stopped. I am told that dehydration can skew the results....but I don't know how much. They are repeating tests in 2 weeks. I still feel very poorly 2days without lasix. I was wondering if anyone had experience with this. I am very concerned.
Avatar n tn Yestersday, the vet prescribed very mild dosage of lasix for my dog and should I start giving her lasix now or should I wait till her steriod to wear off ( when she stop shivering and panting)? Vet is afraid lasix may cause her pancreatitise to come back again if given larger dose. When dogs are given lasix does it means the pet do not live that long? Please advise. Thank you for helping.
Avatar n tn they couldnt put him asleep to do some testing cuz he would die. they gave us lasix now for over 6 weeks. my dog was perfect in all ways and we were shocked and still are of this diagnosis. ever since that day he is progressing worse, and he has gained at least 5 lbs in 6 weeks and his stomach is huge and his cough is horrible. he is drinking more, but has to be coersed to go potty and doesnt go very much.
559187 tn?1330782856 After checking my kidney and liver function, my PCP called to tell me to go ahead and get the Lasix (water pills) and start taking them. Has anyone taken Lasix and if so, do you have any suggestions about what time of day is best to take them?
Avatar m tn Hello, I agree withDrZ123 on this one. Aortic stenosis is a surgical disease. Of course the timing of surgery is the most critical issue and is dependent on the degree of aortic valve stenosis, symptoms and other comorbidities. The outcomes of aortic valve surgery in today's time are excellent. I would recommend a consultation with a cardiologist ASAP to discuss this further.
7569019 tn?1460135460 now down to 10) 4 days of major charlie horses Dr said stop taking Gemfibrozil.. and to help with the swelling I was put on lasix furosemide 20 mg and pot chloride 20 meg.. 422425 tn?1307992990 I am on a prescribed Potassium tablet morning and night plus the lasix, spironolactone and Diovan for my high BP. Needless to say I spend a lot of time in the lav.
Avatar f tn My 13 year old Lab was just diagnosed with CHF. Prior to that, our vet put her on Pronin for a bladder issue that worked and solves that issue. However, now we reduced the Pronin because of the Lasix, now the Pronin isn't working like it should, of course because of the Lasix. I'm guessing we will be looking at a trade off situation. Will she be in pain if we ask our vet to take her off the Lasix? Or maybe she could go back to her full dose of Pronin?
Avatar n tn You can also cut way back on salt consumption and so need less Lasix.
617141 tn?1225706428 Transfer was postponed till I get better. Doctor gave me Lasix 40 mg to be taken once and Neo-K (potassium chloride) 500 mg twice daily for 5 days for now. My concern is that I ate two potatoes, one banana, a cup of yogurt, and tomato, all potassium sources today.
Avatar m tn Dear Doctor I am writing this from India My Son was diagnosied (provisional diagnosis) of Viral Myocarditis when he was 2 weeks old and he was in ICU for 2 weeks (in Dec 2005) . When his condition became stabe he was discharged and was on medication - Carnitine, Lasix & Digoxin. When he was 1 year old, echo revealed improved EF of 45-50% and Doctor stopped Lasix.
Avatar f tn It was so bad I went off Abilify for a few months because of it. No other med helped so I went back on but with Lasix. The Lasix allows me to tolerate the Abilify and the Abilify is the only drug that has returned me to "normal". You may want to ask your doc about it?? Good luck.
Avatar m tn She had lost over 20 lbs. Now she is on Lasix since Nov and having same symptoms. She is also allergic to sulfa.
Avatar f tn My cat was diagnosed with impaired renal function (stage II) and was put on a fluid therapy on saline 0,9% and Lasix. As a result of the use of lasix, the vet suspects she has became severely hypokalemic and she will be placed on potassium supplement therapy once her blood work is confirmed which unfortunately may take another 12 hours. At the moment she is lethargic, has no appetite and unable to walk around but at least she is alive.
Avatar n tn He went for a checkup recently (not his regular cardiologist) and had a chest x-ray done. Results showed some fluid. He was told to double up on his Lasix. What could be causing this fluid build up and is it safe to increase Lasix? My concern is that he saw his regular cardiologist approx 1 month ago. He told my Dad that he did hear a "girgle" when he listened with his stethascope, but never recommended that he increase his Lasix and didn't recommend a chest x-ray.
Avatar n tn accidents are more likely to be due to Lasix. It takes about 30 minutes to one hour for lasix to act, especially with subsequent doses the time is about 30 minutes or less. This urgency to pass urine after Lasix also depends on the fluids consumed in the hours before the tablet, and amount of displaced fluid in the body. The action varies from individuals to individuals.
Avatar m tn So we took him to the vet and they put him on Fortekor for his heart and Lasix pills to get rid of excess water. We recently took him off the Fortekor but he still takes the Lasix, but the Lasix just isn't working. He's retaining all the water in his abdominal area, where as the rest of him is just skin and bones. In the last few days he barely eats but still drinks water, minimal moving around and he doesn't like to lye down.
