Avatar n tn He has been on a lasix iv drip for almost 72 hours now and is finally feeling better and breathing well. My question is, how can he keep the water off at home? Lasix at home is not working well. His kidneys are ok, not perfect, but ok. The doctor does not want to increase the oral lasix because of kidney damage, but if something can't be done, what does he do? Go to the hospital about every 5 days, stay for 3 days while he gets lasix iv, go home and start the cycle all over?
Avatar m tn His weight stabilized and he was removed from the Metolazone, but he is a different human being now. He has become too weak to walk, and his thoughts are obviously clouded. His water weight is about at his normal set point and stable, and his oxygen saturation levels have been stable at 93 to 97. It's worth mentioning that he has a small patch of pneumonia on the lung and that this hasn't been cured for about three months now.
Avatar m tn Two weeks ago, he gained water weight, and lasix did not work. The doctor prescribed Metolazone, a more powerful diuretic. This removed water, but from about 2 days after he started Metolazone, he began a downward spiral. He developed a potassium shortage, treated by a supplement. Metolazone was stopped, but he has become too weak to walk, and his thoughts are clouded. His water weight is normal.

Avatar m tn Furosemide 40 mg and spironolactone 25 mg. Should I take both at once or take both the same day at different times or discontinue one? Did anyone can share your experience?
Avatar n tn I need some answers to the severity of this condition. I feel that my primary care physician and the members of his staff and group where very neglectful in this matter. any advice would be appreciated in regards to filing a case against them for there neglect to inform me of this (EF) report.
Avatar m tn My grandmother takes water pills and she gave me something stronger. Furosemide. So far this is the best thing to have work. Not 100% as i still fluctuate back and forth in weight because of water. But it is giving me some relief. But down side is it's depleting my body of potassium and causing some wicked charlie horses. I don't know what to do. Doctor says nothing is wrong but obviously there is.
Avatar f tn We have been advised by the doctor to give my mom 20mg furosemide through iv for 3 days because of edema, today was her last day and her bp was 130/50, the doctor told us that her bp should not be lower than 90/60, but we still gave her medcation since her normal should be around 110/60, was it a good idea or a bad one that we administered her furosemide with bp reading of 130/50?
Avatar m tn how do you work out the the right does of furosemide. he is on 10mg a day and he is 10 lbs. what is dangerous high level or low level.
Avatar n tn is it ok to take furosemide 20mg with diltiaz er120mg,digoxin 0.25mg and metoprolol tart 50mg and a bayer aspirin 325mg ?
Avatar n tn For at least 3 years I have been taking a 25mg Losartan potassium tablet and a 40mg Furosemide tablet every morning. I went to a new chemist this morning and he said I should never take the 2 tablets together as they will cause low blood pressure. I went to the doctors last year for a check up and complained of low blood pressure ( I took a list of my last 20 readings) but was told it is nothing to worry about!.
Avatar m tn There is no cross-reactivity between Ethacrynic acid and Lasix (Furosemide). These drugs are both in the same family of medications known as Loop Diuretics and are more commonly known as a “water pill” because they cause an increase in the excretion of urine and electrolytes. There are different types of allergic reactions to medications known as hypersensitivities and symptoms can range from a skin rash to swelling and inflammation of the throat causing difficulty breathing and even death.
Avatar n tn My old Akita (going on 16) had a cough for about 2 mos that my vet originally through was kennel cough. . However, since it didn't disappear, he put him on 20 mg of Furosemide 3 days ago and the cough has since stopped. I understand Furosemide is a powerful diuretic so I'm wondering if this will harm him in the long run even though his condition has improved. FYI, Kita (the Akita) also developed a heart murmur about 4 years ago.
Avatar m tn The usual starting doses of diuretics are 100 mg of spironolactone and 40 mg furosemide. Doses can be changed up to a maximum of 400 mg of spironolactone and 160 mg of furosemide. A ratio of 100:40. An initial therapeutic abdominal paracentesis (taping the fluid with a needle to look for infection in the fluid) should be performed in patients with massive ascites. Patients with ascites admitted to the hospital should undergo abdominal paracentesis.
Avatar m tn I have been sick and my doctor ordered me to take a regiment of medication being prednisone, doxycycline and furosemide. I have been on the prednisone for 2 weeks now and he has ordered me to take 5 mg every 8 hours (he gave me 80 pills) Would the prednisone effect my HIV results? Thank you.
Avatar f tn Beginning dosages are 100 mg of spironolactone and 40 mg of furosemide by mouth daily. If weight loss and natriuresis are inadequate, both drugs can be simultaneously increased after 3 to 5 days to 200 mg of spironolactone and 80 mg of furosemide. To maintain normal electrolyte balance, the use of the 100 : 40 mg ratio of spironolactone to furosemide is generally recommended. Maximum accepted dosages are 400 and 160 mg/day of spironolactone and furosemide, respectively.
Avatar m tn I have fluid retention on and off and my doctor prescribed furosemide 80mg twice a day. This is the second time that I have gone through sudden and severe muscle cramps, entire body, arms, legs etc. First time was 2 years ago and he stopped my taking Lipitor. Last night it happened again. I only take this when my legs swell badly and this just started 3 days ago ( the swelling ). I do not use the furosemide all the time , only when I am retaining water.
4856858 tn?1365378777 I agree with Idyllic that the Lasix (Furosemide) will 'probably' make you urinate a lot. I say 'probably,' because it did not make me urinate any more than normal. Lower extremity swelling can be cause by a lot of things.... renal, cardiac, and others. Plus I am certain that mine was due to the Hep C drugs, probably Interferon. In your case, my question would be, did your doctor try to find out why you are having the lower extremity swelling?
Avatar n tn You mentioned Effexor, which is an SSRI that I have never taken myself. Also, you mentioned Furosemide and WellButrin. Forgive my naivite' but aren't Furosemide and Wellbutrin two different medicines?... Or have they given Wellbutrin a generic name now? I can't keep up w/ all these new SSRI's anymore! LOL!

Avatar m tn He went to the doctor last week and they increased his lasix - 160 mg twice a day. No change to the edema. He went back yesterday and they prescribed Metolazone (diuretic). He took one this morning at 7:00 am and at 10:00 am he had not noticed any increase in urination. He also went to his cardiologist yesterday who said he did have fluid around his heart (cause of the coughing) but agreed with the diuretic prescription.
