Avatar n tn It is well established that ADHD is a legitimate diagnosis that can have serious lifelong effects. Even though it may be over diagnosed in some circles, most people with ADHD are still never diagnosed or treated.
Avatar n tn Celexa is a more preferred drug for OCD at a low dose for children. This drug seems to work the best with the fewest side effects. If you don't mind what type of OCD subject is it?
Avatar m tn m not sure if Zofran is used in children but you could ask. Tetrabenzene is used but that has some serious side effects so that might not be for children either. But there are other medications as well. Clonidine in patch form (Catapres) is especially helpful for tic like motions (tardive tourreticism which is a variant of tardive dyskinesia I have as well). I am on Tenex which is helpful as well. I believe both of those are used in children.
Avatar f tn WARNINGS - Ritalin should not be used in children under six years, since safety and efficacy in this age group have not been established. Sufficient data on safety and efficacy of long-term use of Ritalin in children are not yet available. Although a causal relationship has not been established, suppression of growth (ie, weight gain, and/or height) has been reported with the long-term use of stimulants in children. Therefore, patients requiring long-term therapy should be carefully monitored.
454366 tn?1211245301 Litium did give me a hyperactive thyroid condition. The med I was given for that has a side effect of osteoporosis in the lumbar in long term use (Synthroid). I ended up with litium toxicity a few years back because diuretics will cause that. As you know caffine is a diuretic (soft drinks) - which most kiddo's I know tend to drink. I would not allow litium to be given to my child; not going through what I have with it. I have a son who is ADHD.
Avatar n tn My doctor put me on Buspar, 5 mg 2x a day to help with my ADHD...but I have not read any solid literature on Buspar and its effects on ADHD symptoms. Is this a good drug to go on for ADHD? Has anyone else been on this drug for ADHD? I haven't noticed any difference in my ability to remember/concentrate but have been taking it for a little over a week now and seem a bit (I use this lightly..) less anxious...but, still need my ADHD treated.
Avatar n tn My son just called and asked if I could drive him and some friends to the ice skating rink and I sadly had to tell him to ask dad. I heard a bit of sadness in his voice (he is 11) since he and my other children know that mom is always the one to go to for things.Thankfully my husband agreed to drive them but I feel guilty because I know hubby is not going to pick up the slack when it comes to the kids and I am sure that they know this too.
Avatar f tn ( I was prescribed Nuvigil by my neurologist and between the dislike of taking another pill, and the side effects and addiction possibility of the Nuvigil I am VERY hesitant to take it. I am at wits end! I have done ALL the steps and done everything but the Nuvigil and I am still fatigued. ANY Suggestions??? Poker247 a.k.a.
1367899 tn?1278121440 My sister and I started a blog on Adderall to learn more about the medication along with alternative and complementary ADHD treatment options. Any feedback from users of Adderall or Adderall XR would be greatly appreciated. Topics to be added this week on http://Adderall.org How is Adderall XR different from Adderall? [Adderall vs. Adderall XR] What is Adderall? How to Make Adderall: [Adderall Background Information] What are the best Adderall and ADHD books?
Avatar f tn My 11 year old son has the following symtoms after a streptosyme infection found in his blood in Nov 2008, and after taking methylin for 5 days in Dec 2008. Could this be related to dystonia and why? 1. frequent blinking 2. painful finger cramping 3. stress induced twitches in left side extremities 4. involuntary movements/jerks in left side extremities 5. muscle stiffness and jerks in left arm, hand, fingers, leg, foot, and toes when trying to relax 6.
Avatar n tn are their any adults who took it as a child and had long-term negative or positive effects? Does it slow growth in children? Are their negative effects on school performance? I would really appreciate a doctor's opinion, or any other person who has had a child who has taken Prozac. Thanks so much.
Avatar f tn I'm more worried about the hair thinning right now. I've seen posts about people thinking their hair thinning is a result of the medication. The side effects I've found is a long list and hair thinning has been mentioned. I'm scared to death and beginning to panic about it.

Avatar m tn Just a bit of personal experience to add to this discussion...I take methylin(a time release form of ritalin) for ADHD regularly. However, during a severe episode of MS-like sx lasting 2 1/2 months this winter, I couldn't tolerate taking the stimulant since it suddenly caused lots of side effects like trembling, tremor, racing heartbeat, increased hyperreflexia, etc.
281209 tn?1209385426 I had a TT for papillary carcinoma in 7/07. I had a 30% uptake in my thyroid scan and they gave me 21mCi I-131 to bring down the dose. I just received my second dose (220mCi) last week, and expected nominal side effects. I've felt terrible since then. Loss of taste, overall nausea, etc. Anyone else go through this? My docs didn't mention anything about side effects (besides the normal salivary glands swelling). How long should I expect to feel this way?
Avatar f tn s so hard to predict how different people are going to respond to treatment in terms of side effects. Some people seem to go through with few problems, and others have varying degrees of side effects. There are also times during tx when you feel better and times you feel worse. I have seen many people with jobs make it through, and many folks with children also. You have to do what's best for you sometimes in order to be there for everyone else.
Avatar n tn http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/guanfacine_ad.htm http://www.depression-guide.com/tenex.htm http://www.drugs.com/mtm/tenex.html I don't see much that would describe your son's behavior here, but if he's taking other meds on top of this one, there could be a reaction.
147929 tn?1294851722 I posted this yesterday in Maternal & Children but thought I should ask you ladies as well....I did test this morning and BFN but I have never had a positive on less than day 28 so I knew testing this morning would be worthless (day 27) - I plan to try again Sunday and then Tuesday before stopping the progesterone if I don't get a positive. I've been on progesterone suppositories since 3 dpo and the last few days have been feeling really cruddy....
