Avatar f tn The Oxy is long out of her system and when she goes through withdrawal, it will be from Methadone. I can tell you that it will be a lengthy and difficult withdrawal. I think you mentioned yesterday that she was participating in meetings but stopped? That is a shame because she will need help from others who can help her get through this and show her that there is another way.
877402 tn?1241569071 Fortunately, medications and counseling can improve the chances of success. New treatments like Suboxone, and traditional therapies like methadone and 12-step programs, are helping thousands of people stay on the road to recovery. Physical Dependence and Detox Narcotic addiction leads to real changes in the nerves of the brain. Prescription drug addiction hijacks the circuits that deal with mood and "reward" -- feeling good for helpful behaviors and bad for harmful ones.
877402 tn?1241569071 It activates the same opioid receptors as narcotics, effectively eliminating withdrawal symptoms. Providing the correct dose of methadone prevents opioid withdrawal symptoms and eases drug craving but it does not provide the euphoria. The dose can be slowly tapered off, freeing the person from physical dependence without withdrawal symptoms. Methadone is the most effective known treatment for narcotic addiction.
Avatar n tn How long should someone be on methadone treatments before being weened off of it? It has been 16 months now on Methadone and I feel ready to be weened from it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn Hey Yall, I went to the doc today and got Subutex (not Suboxone) I'm switching from Methadone 50mg to Subutex. I took my last dose exactly 26 hours and 23 min ago, I know it's extremely pathetic that i know that. My doc told me that I could take an 8mg SUbutex as soon as i get them filled, but I panicked because of everything I've heard about going into Precipatated withdrawls, So I havent took any of them yet.

569676 tn?1315641158 There have been a lot of posts latetly from many users beginning methadone, suboxone or other Opiate replacement and maintenance treatments. I wanted to stress the importance of recovery care during this time to increase success, and to an extent make withdrawals easier! And why and how it works. The article hints to suboxone primarily, but upon reading you will find that this doesnt only occur in patients on replacement therapy.

Avatar f tn I have been taking Methadone 30mg/day for 3 years and 6 months. It is prescribed by my primary physician for radiculopathy (?) pain following spine fracture from a horse back riding fall. For the past 6 - 7 months, the pain has slowly increased. Am wondering what is causing this?
Avatar f tn Methadone is the hardest drug to withdraw from. It took 8 months of tapering and horrible withdrawals. Mental spiritual and emotional death. Please reconsider taking that devils brew.takes about 2 years maybe longer to get methadone out of your bone marrow. Withdrawals are long slow painful and could affect you the rest of your life.
7392085 tn?1390512827 i am currently on a methadone clinic & getting oxycodone from my pain doctor the clinic wants me to stop seeing her im thinking of asking my doctor for methadose pills/w oxys & getting off the clinic any advice
Avatar f tn I returned to methadone as was best option during pregnancy.(fortunately baby had no withdrawal symptoms). Haven't used heroin for about 5 years but so scared of withdrawal, thought i would be on one of the above for life. Baby now 19mths & have been withdrawing slowly so can still fulfill parental (single). I am currently on 4mg and have conflicting info regarding what to do next.
1311475 tn?1274198780 I am now taking 60 mg. of methadone, trying to get off of the methadone to become eligible for other pain treatment. I didn't know where to ask this question. The 1st reason I started taking the methadone was due to heroin abuse, which I started to kill the pain from a car accident. I had dabbled in heroin use prior to my car accident. But have been clean for many years now, thanks to the methadone.
Avatar f tn High dosage and long term use increases the risk and severity of dependence and withdrawal symptoms. Withdrawal seizures and psychosis can occur in severe cases of withdrawal and anxiety and insomnia in less severe cases of withdrawal. Gradual reduction in dosage reduces the severity of the benzodiazepine withdrawal syndrome. I'd rather use natural remedies like Amino acid supplements, diet and vitamins to get my neurotransmitters back up to par instead.
Avatar f tn From my observation (and I know it was only observation accompanied by what the people were telling me), Methadone withdrawal is far more painful and grueling than Hep C treatment. My observation and understanding is that methadone withdrawal produces severe symptoms of withdrawal which last for months. (nausea, vomiting, severe abdominal cramping, bone pain, general body pain, total exhaustion, tremors, perspiration, fever, severe runny nose to name a few).
Avatar n tn my daughter is 33yrs old and was arrest on 8/27/08. At the time of her arrest she was on daily methadone (110mg). since they don't give methadone in jail she was forced into cold turkey withdrawal. Last thur4day she was sent to a mental health faciltiy because she is seeing things and hears voices. Please can anyone tell me is this somtimes part of the withdrawal or has she possible lost her mind.
Avatar f tn The level of misinfo on here about this subject is sad. Here are some facts: There is an EXTREMELY HIGH risk of miscarriage if you detox from methadone while pregnant. Lowering your dose WILL NOT mitigate neonatal withdrawal symptoms after birth. The fetus absorbs much of the dose, causing mom to be in constant withdrawal if dose is lowered, which is dangerous to the fetus. Federal methadone guidelines now recommend dosage increases during pregnancy. Yes, the baby will go through withdrawal.
Avatar f tn I've been going to a methadone clinic for 6yrs. I have been addicted to opiates for many, many yrs and I'm 37yrs old. I also have hep c and have been taking treatments for this, so my liver doesnt metabolize ANYTHING like it should anyway. One of the many side effects of those trreatments is depression. I havent seen a doc yet that was methadone "friendly", so I havent tried to get any anti anxiety meds. Most wont give it to u knowing you are on methadone. So on Nov.
Avatar f tn I know as a mother that it is not easy to see your child suffer, but understand, this is all part of recovery, your daughters body is undergoing many changes due to having little or no methadone, it will get better, but only if she stays off methadone. The symtoms of methadone withdrawals vary from person to person, mine were like riding a roller coaster, some days were good, then the next day Id feel as if I were back on my first day of detoxing, so shes gonna have good days & bad.
Avatar f tn I believe everyone is different. I was on klonopin for 2 years and became pregnant and had to ween off of it. This was not hard. However I was unable to ween off subutex (not recommended because opiate withdrawal can be very dangerous for an unborn baby) and switched to methadone for my pregnancy which is the most studied and safest drug to take while pregnant.
Avatar f tn GoingTo MakeIt is correct it can be mild or severe, from my own personal experience during my detox from methadone, it was bad during the first two weeks, but I still functioned, as best as I could anyway, I tapered down from 90mgs down to 2mgs then stopped, my symtoms were like many who stop methadone, no energy, depression, bad anxiety, couldnt sleep, sneezing, etc. It has been 2 1/2 months since being off methadone & I am back to my pre-methadone days, & very happy about my success!!!
Avatar m tn Yep right here!!...I swear, & not many people believe me, but my methadone withdrawal was almost like nothing!!...I was on it for 8yrs highest dose about 100mg, & from January to March 24, 2012 I tapered completely off...by myself..no Dr...I was 3months clean & started to have bladder/kidney pain, had some surgeries, got on oxycodone for that & am currently trying to taper off it...let me tell you, it has been beyond WORSE than the methadone!!!...
Avatar n tn can my gp prescribe something for my cocodamol addiction (withdral) like methadone or somethng to get through the pain and symtoms?
