Avatar n tn Many people, particularly those in early stages of addiction, think that if they can only get through withdrawal all will be well... but those in late addiction will attest that the physical withdrawal is not the biggest problem. In later stages of addiction the addict will be miserable enough to find the motivation to get through the physical withdrawal, but then later, just as the addict starts to feel better, he relapses! Or sometimes the relapse will occur after 3 months, or a year...

Avatar m tn Yep right here!!...I swear, & not many people believe me, but my methadone withdrawal was almost like nothing!!...I was on it for 8yrs highest dose about 100mg, & from January to March 24, 2012 I tapered completely off...by myself..no Dr...I was 3months clean & started to have bladder/kidney pain, had some surgeries, got on oxycodone for that & am currently trying to taper off it...let me tell you, it has been beyond WORSE than the methadone!!!...
Avatar f tn I have in my journal an article written by a dr about methadone and withdrawal. I went off methadone cold turkey from 65 mg and it was hell..in my opinion there is little difference in w/d from 10mg to 65 mg in terms of w/d..others may disagree but I don't care. methadone has a very long 1/2 life..meaning it build itself up in your system..lets say according to your wifes metabolism that the methadone stays in her system 36 hrs..
Avatar f tn my partner was prescribed methadone for withdrawal from heroin in march 2008, he was on 225mg to stabalise him a day. Now he is down to 12.5mg per day and has decided that he wants off. the problem is he is epileptic and has to take medication for this daily. Can anyone please tell me how bad his withdrawal maybe and what advice can you give me as should he still take methadone but drop slowly or stop altogether. He hates the stuff .
Avatar m tn Jake, go ahead and start a new thread with your question. As for 'addicted 73', I have strong opinions from my own experiences with addiction and from what I see with patients.... opinions that you may resist hearing. I would be very surprised if a person taking a couple hundred of OC per day could leave the addiction behind.
Avatar f tn Please listen to gnarly he gives excellent advise. I am currently going through methadone withdrawal I sympathize with your man. It's hellish and the hardest thing I've ever done. Manic and nutty is normal.. so is depression and anger being moody crying and laughing hysterically. And if he's not sleeping which nobody ever does on methadone withdrawal after being up for so long and no sleep you will go a little crazy and could see and hear things that aren't there.
Avatar f tn Then see what my pain level is.Only problem is the withdrawal pain is driving me insane. From what I have read about methadone withdrawal its going to be quite some time before all withdrawal syptoms are gone.I deal with depression also and while on methadone there are alot of anti-depressant meds you can not mix with methadone.I have tried so many anti-depressants nothing works for me.I always feel very sadated once they have there full effect.I just feel terrible when I take anti-depressants.
Avatar m tn m currently withdrawalinf from methadone which is a different opiate. I had anxiety in the first few days of withdrawal and I have extreme exhaustion and just walking up a flight of steps or walking around can give me shortness of breath. Normally those things wouldn't give me shortness of breath. My family doctor prescribed me clonidine to help withdrawal symptoms and it has eliminated my anxiety along with a ton of other symptoms.
Avatar f tn I have also been losing my hair on methadone. I lose alot for a while and then it stops. Then starts back again. It has been "shedding" now for a few months. I'm afraid I'm going to lose all my hair. Good thing I'm almost off Methadone! Congrats on your time off Methadone. I can't wait till I have that many days clean.
Avatar f tn I returned to methadone as was best option during pregnancy.(fortunately baby had no withdrawal symptoms). Haven't used heroin for about 5 years but so scared of withdrawal, thought i would be on one of the above for life. Baby now 19mths & have been withdrawing slowly so can still fulfill parental (single). I am currently on 4mg and have conflicting info regarding what to do next.
1311475 tn?1274198780 I am now taking 60 mg. of methadone, trying to get off of the methadone to become eligible for other pain treatment. I didn't know where to ask this question. The 1st reason I started taking the methadone was due to heroin abuse, which I started to kill the pain from a car accident. I had dabbled in heroin use prior to my car accident. But have been clean for many years now, thanks to the methadone.
Avatar f tn t get past 2 days of withdrawal. I feel like im going to jump out of my skin. I have 22 month old daughter to take care & she deserves way better than me. Im at the point of suicide. Hospitalization is out of the question because there is no one to care for. Unfortunately im not close with family who won't help, even though I've cried out for help. Any advice will be appreciated. Thank you.
Avatar m tn It has as long or longer half life than methadone and the exact same lengthy withdrawal experience as methadone and therefore negates arguments for it's use. If u wanna taper switch to a short acting and do so. Check out ibogaine treatment too. You have to go to Canada or Mexico because its illegal in the us but most people can take just one dose of ibogaine and be completely free of opioid dependence after like a magic bullet cure. But don't switch sub for meth.
Avatar m tn sorry bama if i didn't specify more, really i ment to but got off track. mental withdrawal is kicking my a**. i wasn't referring to anything about the codeine i was only simply comparing the methadone with any type of opiate pill. methadone is a very strong drug and i just think it would be right that people are more educated on the pitfalls of it. when i walked in to that methadone clinic i was told nothing negative, and for 4 yrs it ruled my life.
Avatar f tn I'm on day 13 no methadone-13 is my lucky number but today is such a bad day. I guess I hit that energy crash. I feel like my body is made of lead. I'm trying to stay positive. I have no desire to go back now. I guess there are worse things than no energy-like being on methadone. I will make it through today. Who knows tomorrow might be better. Hope everyone else is doing ok. Must remain strong minded even when weak bodied.
Avatar n tn Are there stages to xanax withdrawal? I'm two weeks off taking xanax and still feel awful. The anxiety isn't so bad but the physical aspects of the withdrawal are terrible; heavy headed, pre-syncope, tingling, numbness, narrowed vision, surreal feelings, etc. I could have saved myself years of torment if the doctors I'd seen had only recognized that I was experiencing withdrawal while taking the xanax itself.
Avatar n tn my daughter is 33yrs old and was arrest on 8/27/08. At the time of her arrest she was on daily methadone (110mg). since they don't give methadone in jail she was forced into cold turkey withdrawal. Last thur4day she was sent to a mental health faciltiy because she is seeing things and hears voices. Please can anyone tell me is this somtimes part of the withdrawal or has she possible lost her mind.
Avatar m tn Once you go into full withdrawal, the symptoms vary depending on the person, and the dose of methadone. Some people still have a rough time with pain, vomiting, insomnia, etc, whereas others have very mild, and sometimes even no symptoms at all. It is a very comfortable withdrawal, and you`re not on it long enough, of enough of a dose, to become dependent on methadone. I strongly suggest looking into something like this. It saved my life when i was ready to give up, it will save yours too.
5621112 tn?1371375561 Also, if you start Suboxone and limit your time on it to just a month or so, your withdrawals will still be less than that of methadone withdrawal since methadone is a full opiate agonist whereas Suboxone is a partial opiate agonist which leads to lesser withdrawal symptoms. Plus there are certain medications that are pretty cheap and generic that you can take to combat the withdrawal, and that includes the methadone withdrawal if you are concrete on sticking with it.
Avatar f tn The level of misinfo on here about this subject is sad. Here are some facts: There is an EXTREMELY HIGH risk of miscarriage if you detox from methadone while pregnant. Lowering your dose WILL NOT mitigate neonatal withdrawal symptoms after birth. The fetus absorbs much of the dose, causing mom to be in constant withdrawal if dose is lowered, which is dangerous to the fetus. Federal methadone guidelines now recommend dosage increases during pregnancy. Yes, the baby will go through withdrawal.

Avatar m tn Hi I have been a methadone addict for over 20 years. I cut down my prescription to 15mg a day and then stopped. It is day eight now and I am suffering more than I thought. While not sleeping one night and looking through medicine cabinet came across some tramadol left over after my daughter's operation. I took one and it helped alot. Does anybody know if these will just put off my withdrawls or could they actually help me?
Avatar f tn I know as a mother that it is not easy to see your child suffer, but understand, this is all part of recovery, your daughters body is undergoing many changes due to having little or no methadone, it will get better, but only if she stays off methadone. The symtoms of methadone withdrawals vary from person to person, mine were like riding a roller coaster, some days were good, then the next day Id feel as if I were back on my first day of detoxing, so shes gonna have good days & bad.
