Common Questions and Answers about Methadone withdrawal remedies

methadose

Avatar f tn i am a reasonably healthy 46yo female & spent 18 years on methadone before being involuntarily withdrawn from 75mg methadone over an 8 week period. Last 20mg I came off at 1mg per day. I am now taking (not prescribed) 5-20mg methadone per day as I couldn't cope with some withdrawal symptoms. Suboxone is not available to me in New Zealand & my GP prescribed zopiclone 7.5mg for sleep.
Avatar m tn There is great support here and we can help you with home remedies and such to ease the withdrawal process. I hope you consider it.

Avatar m tn my personal sub doc (VERY EXPENSIVE BY THE WAY) assured me it was giving me my life back.... easy to say when you are not going thru methadone withdrawal and want to quit hurting. but in reality its the toughest 2 weeks of your life. I have a very physical job (I move furniture) and fell hook line sinker for that lie. I went thru 4 days of hell making sure I didnt get PRECIPITED WITHDRAWALnow I am struggiling with 7 days clean. I have slept a grand total of 12 hrs sleep.
Avatar f tn I am 23 years old, I was in a head on collision 2 years ago, and after 4 months of suffering of pain and trying natural remedies to make the pain go away, I was referred to a pain management doctor. It took me a year to realize that I have a problem. I have now been on them for 2 1/2 years and I really really really really want to quit!! I have tried several times and I can never get past the 2-3 day then I give in, I researched things I could do to help with the withdrawal...
687729 tn?1397992727 Have I started the clock all over again by taking that Methadone this morninig? If this is, in fact, drug withdrawal - as opposed to a virus - how long can I expect it to last? and, last, but not least, would flannel sheets help? RSVP I am going out of my mind. Thanks PS. I know that real pain is a part of the problem because I had shoulder surgery recently as well as my very-recent decompression/fusion surgery; but, still, this is ridiculous.
Avatar m tn Anyway, if you took the last one 8 days ago I am sure it was about 36 hours before the real withdrawal kicked in so it is maybe day 6. that's good because it will last much longer. I cannot pin point an exact time for you, there are too many variables. Tell us what exactly you are feeling and maybe we can suggest some things to help ease the symptoms.
Avatar n tn I am an addict - first time I have ever announced that to anyone besides myself. I was on about 160mg oxy for a year and a half. I want to stop but I am waiting for that moment where I know my desire to be clean is greater than my desire to be high. Does anyone remember theirs?
Avatar f tn I returned to methadone as was best option during pregnancy.(fortunately baby had no withdrawal symptoms). Haven't used heroin for about 5 years but so scared of withdrawal, thought i would be on one of the above for life. Baby now 19mths & have been withdrawing slowly so can still fulfill parental (single). I am currently on 4mg and have conflicting info regarding what to do next.
1311475 tn?1274198780 I am now taking 60 mg. of methadone, trying to get off of the methadone to become eligible for other pain treatment. I didn't know where to ask this question. The 1st reason I started taking the methadone was due to heroin abuse, which I started to kill the pain from a car accident. I had dabbled in heroin use prior to my car accident. But have been clean for many years now, thanks to the methadone.
Avatar n tn I applaud your resolve to get clean, but want to caution you that methadone is a long acting narcotic and your withdrawal symptoms will stick around for quite a while. You will feel rotten for as long as four to six weeks. There is really no easy way of detoxing from home. I have dealt with hundreds of addicts who have all told me horror stories of doing it by themselves. I would only guess that if are successful in doing it at home you don't end up in my clinic.

Avatar n tn my daughter is 33yrs old and was arrest on 8/27/08. At the time of her arrest she was on daily methadone (110mg). since they don't give methadone in jail she was forced into cold turkey withdrawal. Last thur4day she was sent to a mental health faciltiy because she is seeing things and hears voices. Please can anyone tell me is this somtimes part of the withdrawal or has she possible lost her mind.
Avatar f tn Yeah, It sure sounds like methadone withdrawal, I,ve been slowly weaning off methadone for almost one year, as of today Im at 3mgs, & while Im ok at times, their are other times when I get cranky, emotional, and the worst of the worst is the lack of energy, I take so much pride in my home as this is my first home I bought, & its most peoples dream home, well since getting under 12mgs I have let it all go, dishes in the sink, my bathroom looks like a huricane hit, laundry is piling up, I
268911 tn?1213744781 Oh and dont take oxys well on methadone again the methadone is only to mask the withdrawal symptoms of the oxys you wont feel any while on the methadone but if you do this remember it works but you must not take it longer then 5 days and you must lower the dose each day.
Avatar f tn As most of you have read my posts, and I have decided when I get to 10mgs of methadone Im quitting cold turkey...my tapering down is not working very well for me at this point...I woke up at 5am with diarrhea, chills and a little sweating. Im pigheaded and stubborn, as addicts can be, and im at 13mgs right now, but either i continue going down 3mgs a week., or quit cold turkey......
Avatar f tn The level of misinfo on here about this subject is sad. Here are some facts: There is an EXTREMELY HIGH risk of miscarriage if you detox from methadone while pregnant. Lowering your dose WILL NOT mitigate neonatal withdrawal symptoms after birth. The fetus absorbs much of the dose, causing mom to be in constant withdrawal if dose is lowered, which is dangerous to the fetus. Federal methadone guidelines now recommend dosage increases during pregnancy. Yes, the baby will go through withdrawal.
Avatar f tn I know as a mother that it is not easy to see your child suffer, but understand, this is all part of recovery, your daughters body is undergoing many changes due to having little or no methadone, it will get better, but only if she stays off methadone. The symtoms of methadone withdrawals vary from person to person, mine were like riding a roller coaster, some days were good, then the next day Id feel as if I were back on my first day of detoxing, so shes gonna have good days & bad.
Avatar f tn I believe everyone is different. I was on klonopin for 2 years and became pregnant and had to ween off of it. This was not hard. However I was unable to ween off subutex (not recommended because opiate withdrawal can be very dangerous for an unborn baby) and switched to methadone for my pregnancy which is the most studied and safest drug to take while pregnant.
Avatar f tn but it is an option. the main problem with methadone is that the withdrawal process is so long, up to 6 weeks, depending on dose and length of time on it, so that can vary. to hard to predict the outcome other than it being hard and quite uncomfortable.
Avatar f tn GoingTo MakeIt is correct it can be mild or severe, from my own personal experience during my detox from methadone, it was bad during the first two weeks, but I still functioned, as best as I could anyway, I tapered down from 90mgs down to 2mgs then stopped, my symtoms were like many who stop methadone, no energy, depression, bad anxiety, couldnt sleep, sneezing, etc. It has been 2 1/2 months since being off methadone & I am back to my pre-methadone days, & very happy about my success!!!
