Methadone withdrawal management

Common Questions and Answers about Methadone withdrawal management

methadose

Avatar n tn m assuming that she was taking the methadone for pain management, is that correct?) It can often take quite a while, depending on where you live, to find a new pain management doctor. And you should get her records so you can see if there's anything in the records that are incorrect that might prevent another pain doctor to see her. Patients are usually cut off abruptly if they violate their pain contract in any way.
Avatar f tn if I where you I would get a second opinion....talk to a pain management doctor that is familiar with methadone explain you want to go off of it but want to do it the right way also explain what your current doctor is doing to you it should send up a red flag to him/her that there not doing it correctly....I was on methadone for pain management also but it took me 8 1/2 mo to taper off it really depends on how high of dose you where on b/4 you began to taper....
Avatar f tn I have had 4 different doctors prescribe methadone. The last one I've had for about 3 1/2-4 years, and she was my pcp. She would only do 1 thing at each appointment and not very well, if I got sick the day before my meds refill and asked her to look in my throat or ears, she would say" Do you want your pain meds, or for me to look at your ears?" She found cancer in my paps smear in Oct of 09 and has done nothing about it, including doing my mammogram.
Avatar m tn I began seeing a pain management specialist last May who put me on methadone 40 mgs a day. I was doing pretty well, but after a few months I requested a fentanyl pain patch after researching that it may help my issues a little better. I was concerned I might go into withdrawal when switching, but she assured me I wouldnt. I was so sick I thought I would die. I called at least twenty times that week with no answer.
4832551 tn?1359761830 I was wondering why after almost a month I am not feeling any better and still get RLS and insomnia. I am also rxd methadone that I haven't been taking since I got suboxone strips. I was wondering if I took a 4th of one after not taking a strip no bigger than 1 cm , would I suffer worse w/d symptoms or would it take this horrible pain away and then I could just keep tappering off methadone until I feel better.
Avatar f tn I have been in pain management for over 15 years and on 40mg of methadone. Dr. thought it was affecting my heart so he switched me to dilaudid 4mg every 8 hours. 2 days later I was in full blown withdrawels. After about 3 weeks I began to think I might live, Dr. kept telling me I shouldn't be having withdrawels. The dilaudid only lasted 2-3 hours, if I waited 8 hours I was hurting so bad the medicine was'nt doing me any good, besides it just was'nt enough. Next visit Dr.
Avatar f tn At the same time our insurance company refused to pay for the high priced drugs and we did not have $1,000. My husband went through horrible withdrawal until he could find another pain management doctor. I told the doctor that we needed a pain medicine that we could pay for so that if the insurance stopped paying for we could still manage. I hope this makes sense.
Avatar f tn Most recently, I have been on 60 mg of methadone daily for 10 years. The pain management doctor in Oregon told me that it is illegal for any pain management doctor or any primary care physician to prescribe methadone to a patient with the diagnosis of "opiate use disorder" here in Oregon. She is therefore cutting me off cold turkey and refuses to titrate me down. This sounds incredibly wrong and inhumane. is this actually true?? If so, what are myoptions?
901222 tn?1399142874 I struggle with a severe form of spinal arthritis. My doctors encourage me to medicate. I don't like to. I tend to slip in and out of dependency according to pain levels and depression about it. I stay far away from oxy and morphine because they are very difficult for people to quit. Vicodin makes me sluggish and sad. I lose connections and sulk in my bed. I just stopped all about a week ago. Feeling a bit better. Still depressed with another RF medical procedure looming. I'm worried.
Avatar f tn ve seen on television, babies do go through withdrawal after birth. Adults go through some sort of withdrawal after being prescribed those medications. Think about how fragile a baby would be. I would seek alternative medicine. Not sure what your health problem is but Acupuncture might help.
Avatar f tn t started it yet because I am unsure of the interaction. Some say it causes withdrawal for the methadone and some say it increases methadone, talk about confusing!! Please tell me your experience or opinion.
Avatar n tn s hard for me to tell sometimes what is from the methadone withdrawal and what is from my other problems (severe reflux disease, pain from thoracic outlet syndrome in my arm, which is a nerve inpingement, arthritis, bone pain from cancer meds, shortness of breath on exercise, fatigue). Can you be specific about what withdrawal symptoms you've experienced? It might help me if I knew what to look out for as I get lower so I can identify problems as withdrawal related or not.
Avatar m tn Hi Truth, Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. You've ask a good question and it has been answered very well by all the above members. Unfortunately there are no opiates, including tramadol (which acts much like an opiate) that are easy an easy withdrawal. The opiates you mentioned, Hydrocodone, Oxycontin and Percocet all have addictive qualities. They all produce withdrawal symptoms to one degree or another when the medication is stopped. As OtisDaMan said everyone is different.
Avatar f tn Hello and Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. I don't know a lot about withdrawals W/D. This is the Pain Management Community and the Addiction. Substance Abuse Forum may have more information for you. By no means am I implying that you are an addict... and I would never use the term junkie with you. It doesn't make sense to me that after all this time and the replacement opiates you are on that you should still be in serious W/Ds.
Avatar f tn Have you talked to both your pain management and ob/gyn about replacing your morphine with Methadone? Methadone is prescribed for moderate to severe pain but is also and opiate blocker. Their pamphlet says there have been no official studies on the effects on a baby HOWEVER, of those taking the methadone who were pregnant, they suffered no side effects, birth defects or dependency by the baby. Here is a like to the fact sheet on webmd: http://www.webmd.
Avatar n tn Fentanyl is no bargain getting off either. It can be a very difficult withdrawal though not as long as methadone. I tapered off it when I was on it from pain management and it wasn't easy. The withdrawals for some can be very, very intense. Stay away from it. If you need to taper, you need to talk to your doctor!!!
Avatar n tn why are you on methadone and oxy both thats a lot
Avatar m tn I just started the triple treatment yesterday. I have been on methadone maintenance for 15 months and from what I've been reading the Incivek somehow uses your methadone faster and you will need a dosage change. Has anyone had this same issue. My gastro said not to worry about this issue too much. Just told me to keep track of symptoms but the side effect symptoms are the same as opiate withdrawal symptoms. How do I know what is is a side effect of?
Avatar f tn Hi everyone, I have posted here just a couple times, so most of you don't really know me well. I am on 51 mgs of methadone that I started using 7 years ago when I had pain, osteonecrosis in my jawbone, the pain was unbearable and I had no break in pain whatsoever.
Avatar n tn how much oxycodone is needed to switch from Methadone 80miligrams to Oxycodone?
1826775 tn?1321633072 I got into a pain management clinic and they perscribed me 10mg oxycodone (percocet) and 10mg methadone. I am very concerned with the methadone as i have researched it and discovered the severity of the withdrawls. It seems that it is nearly impossible to get off without horrific detox symtoms. I have talked with the doctor at the pain clinic and expressed my concern, and he advised me to go from 30mg per day to 50mg per day! Does anyone have any advice, or input on this issue?
