Common Questions and Answers about Methadone withdrawal fatal

Avatar f tn With respects to the doc at that er, the xanax withdrawal is what will kill you, not methadone or other opiate withdrawal. I'm surprised at the meds you were given; I am assuming that they figure you were too far out to worry about DTs from benzo withdrawal, but typically withdrawal from benzos (xanax or alprazolam,, valium or diazepam, ativan or lorazepam,, etc) is treated with antiseizure meds like barbiturates or depakote.
Avatar f tn Hello. Detoxing right now can be harmful to the baby who will feel everything the mother is feeling....especially cold turkey. Make an appointment with a doctor to discuss the different possibilities. One possibility is methadone as it is relatively is safe for the baby. Then, after you have the baby you can address your addiction and get off the methadone.
Avatar f tn ve got methadone to begin with but my withdrawal from roxys was a hard one and I got very scared when I started cramping, fearing I was causing my body to miscarry. I just want to do the right thing but safely.
3828885 tn?1348255932 I also get severe withdrawal symptoms. I know the conventional wisdom is that opiate withdrawal is never fatal, but i have other medical conditions that seem to make my withdrawal worse. Every addict friend i have says they've never seen anyone get as sick as me. once the wd's start i start vomitting and don't stop. i don't sleep, i am in no way functional.
Avatar f tn m very aware that methadone is addictive and way worse withdrawal wise. Obviously with the amount/rate I'm going I only have enough for 3 days max. Am I getting myself in worse hole? I've been taking detox tea, drinking tons of water and stocked on multi vits, potassium (for RLS), zinc, B complex, L-tyrosine and omega-3s as well as eating regular. Any advise on making it through this successfully would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn I really worry about the withdrawal part of being on methadone goin to the clinic every single day, and getting my dose of 60 mg right now I have been on about one month for heroin addiction I used to be on this program 10 yrs ago but moved out of state and stayed clean for 10 yrs off heroin, but pain pills i still did like crazzy...
Avatar f tn I have someone very close to me that can't get off methadone despite numerous attempts... They have tried everything from loritabs to quitting cold turkey and the withdrawals are horendous...
Avatar f tn For the most part opiate withdrawals do not cause death. I'm posting a quote from Adi Jaffe PhD in "Psychology Today" magazine "Opiates - Many people are surprised to learn that in most cases, withdrawal from many opiates (link is external) is not deadly. Still there are some very important exceptions.
1835769 tn?1318283340 No, you won't die. You will feel like you're going to, and then you will probably feel like you want to, but you won't die. The withdrawal symptoms will be pretty severe for about five days, though. BuTrans are the patch version of a drug called suboxone, which is another opioid. It's along the lines of methadone in that it can be used to control pain, but it is more often used to help people get OFF opiates.

Avatar f tn I'm on week 5 of detoxing from only 60mgs of methadone (prior heavy IV heroin addict) and everyone keeps telling me it's going to get better. I feel like I have a body of a 80 year old women and I'm 33. I would rather withdrawal from heroin than methadone. It's the hardest thing I have ever had to do.
Avatar n tn I did not detox off. I had her while still on methadone. She was healthy but did go thru withdrawal. She stayed in the hospital 16 days, then was allowed to go home with a small prescription for me to continue her detox. Not all states or hospitals let you do that. You would have to call your NICU where you plan to deliver to see if that is something they do. If she hadn't detoxed at home she would have been there about 5 weeks. Don't let that scare you.
Avatar f tn I WAS PRESCRIBED CELEXA TODAY AND I AM ON 45 MG DAILY AT METHADONE CLINIC. I ALSO TAKE KLONOPIN 1MG THREE TIMES DAILY. THE METHADONE MAINTENANCE DOCTOR PRESCRIBED THE KLONOPIN AND SAID I COULD TAKE NO MORE THAN 3 MG PER DAY.MY QUESTION IS, IS IT SAFE TO ADD CELEXA TO MY MEDICATIONS (40) MG CELEXA 1 TIME A DAY? I ASK THE CLINIC, PHARMACIST AND PCP AND ALL 3 SAID I SHOULD DO OK BUT I WAS LOOKING FOR MORE LIKE:DEFENATELY I CAN TAKE THESE 3 MEDS TOGETHER.
Avatar m tn I feel your pain, honestly, I was on methadone for 5 years and this past October, I walked off cold turkey at 100mg after five years. I've been through different opiate withdrawals and i must say that methadone withdrawal wasn't as hard as i thought it would be, honestly. The bad thing about it is that while the symptoms aren't as intense per say as detoxing from oxy or heroin, it lasts so much longer.
Avatar m tn sorry bama if i didn't specify more, really i ment to but got off track. mental withdrawal is kicking my a**. i wasn't referring to anything about the codeine i was only simply comparing the methadone with any type of opiate pill. methadone is a very strong drug and i just think it would be right that people are more educated on the pitfalls of it. when i walked in to that methadone clinic i was told nothing negative, and for 4 yrs it ruled my life.
Avatar f tn I returned to methadone as was best option during pregnancy.(fortunately baby had no withdrawal symptoms). Haven't used heroin for about 5 years but so scared of withdrawal, thought i would be on one of the above for life. Baby now 19mths & have been withdrawing slowly so can still fulfill parental (single). I am currently on 4mg and have conflicting info regarding what to do next.
Avatar f tn cut the dose by 10% every couple weeks. That strikes me as too slow, though-- maybe 20% every three to five days would be more appropriate. I don't think there is any concern for fatal effects from the drug during withdrawal.
1311475 tn?1274198780 I am now taking 60 mg. of methadone, trying to get off of the methadone to become eligible for other pain treatment. I didn't know where to ask this question. The 1st reason I started taking the methadone was due to heroin abuse, which I started to kill the pain from a car accident. I had dabbled in heroin use prior to my car accident. But have been clean for many years now, thanks to the methadone.
Avatar f tn Please if anyone has any advice or has been in this situation and has a child that didnt go thru withdrawal or have complications at birth please respond! Thank you!
216046 tn?1193943404 My question is, has anyone heard of lyrica causing withdrawal symptoms when taken w/methadone? I was given Tramadol(Ultram) w/ methadone and thought I was going to die with the interaction it caused!!!
Avatar f tn How could you keep using pills and have a poor baby born with an addiction? I'm watching this poor baby in the hospital born addicted to pain pills. The hospital has to keep the baby at a "high" so the baby doesn't withdrawal and have seizures. The once he's at a maintained dose they will slowly wien him off of that. Could take months the doctor say! Can't even believe the pilled out mommy is helping the doctors with her baby!
Avatar f tn Hey and welcome :) I will post some information below for you. Withdrawals can cause some issues so your going to want to make an appointment with an OB to discuss your options. Dont be afraid though...be honest with your doc and it will be fine. There are many pregnant women who come here with the same issue and it ends up fine so long as they go see a doc.
Avatar m tn When you say Meth I'm a$$uming your talking about methadone mot methamphetamine? Right? Anyways, if this is correct it seems like your daughter did it backwards as the methadone seems to be the standard protocol from expecting mothers detoxing from opiates. She should have stayed on the methadone and let the Percocet go. Whatever she does should be done under the care and advisement of her OB but here is some helpful info below that you can present at a dr visit.
Avatar n tn it is a possibility..not so much the methadone altho at that dose it would be horrid...but ct from klonopin can kill u if ur dose is high...the combo sounds like a really bad idea...
Avatar f tn I have been on Suboxone for a little over a year now. . It has been fantastic! I recently found out that I am pregnant. I am 6 weeks pregnant and both my suboxone dr and my obgyn dr know I am on Suboxone. I can't withdrawal from the medication now that I am pregnant because the drs say that it will cause the baby to also go through withdrawal and will most likely cause a miscarriage. I was wondering if anyone has any input?
Avatar n tn my daughter is 33yrs old and was arrest on 8/27/08. At the time of her arrest she was on daily methadone (110mg). since they don't give methadone in jail she was forced into cold turkey withdrawal. Last thur4day she was sent to a mental health faciltiy because she is seeing things and hears voices. Please can anyone tell me is this somtimes part of the withdrawal or has she possible lost her mind.
Avatar f tn For me, I can kick my withdrawal symptoms in 1-2 days taking 20-30mg of methadone once in the morning. Methadone is said to be a pain med but I have never had any pain relief benefit, even in high doses. Go to your Dr. I'm sure they will agree that Methadone is your answer.
