Avatar f tn My nephew is a methadone baby....I don't think methadone would be best choice.... I feel for u in this time.... you can do this ..,your not alone and when you go through withdrawals talk to us... scream, whatever..its not going to be easy... but I believe you want this!
Avatar f tn It says tramadol is category C though. If you don't know what that means just type in goggle pregnancy category C.
Avatar f tn I feel very strongly that methadone is not the best choice for drug treatment during pregnancy. I am sure you want what is best for your baby and so do I. Methadone is an opiate, very long acting one and very addictive. You are still opiate dependent and if you continue to be on methadone through your pregnancy, your child will also be born opiate dependent. Your baby will be in withdrawals after birth and will have be spend time in the Neonatal ICU to go through those withdrawal.

Avatar f tn I took vicodein during my entire pregnancy for a fractured spine and pelvis and my baby had no withdrawal. Never stop opiates cold turkey in pregnancy and never miss a dose as withdrawal in utero CAN cause miscarriage or fetal death.
Avatar m tn The fetus feels withdrawal symptoms during pregnancy. Short-acting opiates such as heroin cause fluctuating levels of opiates in the blood, ranging from high levels during intoxication to low levels a few hours later as the drug wears off and withdrawal symptoms start appearing. This fluctuation is tough on the unborn child. http://www.healthystartfv.org/Doctors%20Info/Heroin-Detox%20Website%20-%20Opiates%20%20Pregnancy.
4398388 tn?1354024545 t taper down DURING pregnancy? It would seem logical to me that as long as you were comfortable, your baby would be as well. Not a doctor by a long shot so I was just wondering. Avatar f tn I returned to methadone as was best option during pregnancy.(fortunately baby had no withdrawal symptoms). Haven't used heroin for about 5 years but so scared of withdrawal, thought i would be on one of the above for life. Baby now 19mths & have been withdrawing slowly so can still fulfill parental (single). I am currently on 4mg and have conflicting info regarding what to do next.
Avatar n tn This means that it is not known whether buprenorphine and naloxone will be harmful to an unborn baby. Use of buprenorphine and naloxone during pregnancy may cause withdrawal symptoms in a newborn baby. Do not take buprenorphine and naloxone if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment. Contrary to what you may have heard methadone is not safe during pregnancy, it is actually more dangerous to a baby than heroin. I am not sure why doctors prescribe it but they shouldn't.
Avatar n tn There is no danger to the baby during the gradual weaning of your medication during the pregnancy. The main risk to the baby would be from withdrawal after birth if you still continued to take the methadone. You are greatly helping your baby without any risk to him/her.
Avatar f tn GoingTo MakeIt is correct it can be mild or severe, from my own personal experience during my detox from methadone, it was bad during the first two weeks, but I still functioned, as best as I could anyway, I tapered down from 90mgs down to 2mgs then stopped, my symtoms were like many who stop methadone, no energy, depression, bad anxiety, couldnt sleep, sneezing, etc. It has been 2 1/2 months since being off methadone & I am back to my pre-methadone days, & very happy about my success!!!
Avatar n tn I have a few articles about pregnancy on methadone and on Subutex at my blog, Suboxone Talk Zone-- just go there and search for the posts about pregnancy and you should find them. I agree with the prior comment-- we don't know of serious problems from opiates in neonates. The worst part will likely be the judgmental attitudes you will be given by the hospital staff. As for the withdrawal, there are a couple things to remember.
Avatar f tn Get comfortable and form a solid plan with more clarity. Making decisions was so hard during methadone withdrawal. Allow yourself to surrender to this process. One thing at a time. Do what it takes to get in that rehab, let the doctors help you take care of your baby. You can do it, one thing at a time.
Avatar n tn Staying on your methadone will also ensure that you do not relapse on whatever it was you were taking to get you on methadone in the first place and that you are comfortable and withdrawal free during your pregnancy. Women who are on methadone and feel they need it and also want to have children decide to get pregnant and have healthy babies on it every year.
Avatar f tn Both my suboxone dr and my obgyn said that as long as I am monitored closely that me and my baby will be ok... I have an 11 yr old daughter and had never touched a drug during my pregnancy with her so this is a whole different situation for me. Are there any mother's out there who have been on Suboxone during pregnancy and given birth? Please tell me your outcomes, good or bad. .
Avatar f tn When I became pregnant I realIzed after a few months I was experiencing withdrawal. The more comfortable you keep baby during pregnancy, is the easier they get off methadone. I thought best thing for baby was to deal with it, stay at as low dose as possiblee. That is not the case. If you are experiencing withdrawal, so is baby. Baby is going to withdraw either outside of womb, or in womb. In womb, baby can have seizures which is dangerous for baby and mama.
Avatar f tn ve been in pain management for 4 years, I found out that I was pregnant in July and immediately told my pain management doctor. My pain started worsening during pregnancy and my doctor put me on oxycontin 20mg three times a day on top of the oxycodone 10mg three times a day that I was already on. I've only been on the oxycontin for 2 months and I've been taking more and more every day to avoid feeling withdrawal.
Avatar f tn I am pregnant with my 4th child and I'm on Methadone this is my 2nd pregnancy on Methadone my 1st pregnancy was ok on it however when I delivered my daughter didn't have any withdrawals but the doctor insisted I breastfeed after 2 weeks of breastfeeding my baby wouldn't latch good so I went to formula and 3 days later she had withdrawals so bad she was in ICU for 2 weeks being detoxed with opium. If I wouldn't have breast fed she wouldn't have had withdrawals.
Avatar f tn I'm on methadone as well, this is my first pregnancy. Depending on the state you live in and the hospitals policy where you deliver, CPS might get called because you're on methadone... But as long as you're clean and doing everything right they probably won't even follow up with a report... Just a heads up.
1825630 tn?1317572157 Is it better to decrease your methadone intake as much as poss during pregnancy - and also how much more dangeous is it to inject ampoules than taking methadone pills, on the foetus?
Avatar f tn Do you plan on tapering at all? Even though you have only been taking it twice a week, that is a pretty hefty dose. I don't really have any experience with methadone except from what I have read so I don't have the knowledge to answer your question but there are a couple of members that do. Gnarly1 and KC both know a great deal about methadone. They have both tapered off and are clean from methadone and everything else. I'm sure they will be along during the day to help you out.
