methadone with oxycontin

I’ve been prescribed 10mg methadone x2 daily and 2weeks ago my dr changed it to 10mg OxyContin x2 daily. I now have double vision and am listless and cold. I have several methadone left from my old prescription. Would I be able to change and take the methadone instead of the OxyContin until I can talk to my dr on Monday. I was told the change was due to something from my blood work showing up wrong?

My family dr. also got the memo to try to give all her patients with pain methadone. I refuse to get on it and will have to see what happens. It has become a personal nightmare.

Okay, So to sum this up quickly I was on oxycontin (up to 200-400mg a day) for 3 years, and I went on methadone. My Babys dad was also doin this with me...anyways he got clean and wanted me off the methadone, so I stopped it Cold turky, but was too ***** to go thru that ****, and started using pills again ( I even got him back into and he was like 6 weeks clean....*sigh*) anyways, I DONT WANT TO go thru the hell I KNOW im facing.

Well last month he took me off the oxycontin, I was taking 3-- 20mg oxycontin pills a day along with 8--- 15mg oxycodone for breakthrough pain. So instead if increasing my dose of oxycontin he just takes me off it and leaves me on the oxycodone but increases me to 9 pills a day. I must say this last month has been hell.

i don't know about methadone withdrawal but I am on day two of w/d from oxycontin and dialaudid. I think the clonidine, b vitamins, and l-tyrosine are saving me from the worst of it. Do you have any support from your doc? You could try calling a drug crisis line to get some advice if you really can't cope. I've done cold turkey before and it took about 8 days before I felt human again. I heard methadone can take longer.

I was taking oxycontin 40 mg pills 6 a day for two years I went to an inpatient detox they did an 8 day taper using methadone today is 36 days since last oxycontin and 29 days since last methadone I felt ok while taking methadone 2 days after taper starting feeling withdrawls still feel very anxious and am freezing cold and can not sleep but am slowly getting better I was reading posts from people saying 4 days 5 days for oxy withdrawls I was just wondering if it is normal to feel wd's after

I was prescribed oxycontin a year ago after diagnosed with spinal stenosis. I became addicted to them and although I am prescribed 3 20's a day I do 5 or 6 a day. I wanted to go on suboxone and found a sub doctor. I just spent the last 24 hours in withdrawls preparing to go in today and see the doc and leave with a prescription for sub.

Are their benefits to taking methadone to oxycontin? Espeically when you are takin oxycondone for break through pain.

you will probably have withdrawal symptoms from the methadone, which you would also have from the oxycontin. unfortunately ALL strong opiates are now being demonised for various reasons and it isn't helpful to think of methadone in political terms. I think seeing as you are seeing a pain doc tomorrow it would be best to be honest with him and follow his advice without any false negatives being applied to any particular drugs.

After reading all comments, I am very scared to begin trying to withdraw from my pain medication, I am a 40yo mother of 2 teenage children. I am on 80mg oxycontin/20mg methadone/25mg amatryptiline and Oxynorm 10mg as required. I suffered a severe car crash in January 07 leaving me hospitalised for >4 months. I am now trying to reduce my pain medication not thru choice but through govt regulations that say after 12 months I should no longer be on these medications.

I need to know what a safe time would be between Oxycontin 10mg 4 times a day and Methadone 10 mg three times a day? My doctor wants me off the Oxycontin but I was afraid to change without a waiting period but I don't want to wait so long I can't walk. She doesnt abuse her methadone at all, she has no desire, but I have seen her take excessive amounts of oxycontin in the past. Thanks!

re best off discussing this with your doctor - simply be honest wtih him/her and tell them that the oxycontin is not working very well anymore and ask if there is anything they can do. They may decide that increasing your dose would be beneficial, or adding an additional medication, or switching to something new altogether. However, this really is a decision/discussion that needs to happen between you adn your doctor/s. Best of luck.

I have been taking oxycotin 30mg twice a day and oxycodone 10mg prn for break threw pain put I am not getting good pain control on this I was on the fentyol patch that did not work because the tape messed with my skin I also was on methadone for 6 years put I thought I should change and give my body a break from it.

Hi, I was on welbutrin 150XL 1xper-day,I have anziety/panic,also im on methadone,40mgs for oxycontin and percocet issues.I found the welbutrin was problematic as if may of helped with depression,but increased aggitation,anziety,etc.I stopped the welbutrin and felt way better 2-5 days latter.The methadone i have never found to cause ant adverse reactions.I no longer double doctor and buy oxycontin and worry about running out.In my opinion the benefits are worth the risk.

Some drugs are metabolized very efficiently by our liver, like oxycontin(4 hours). Others such as methadone are much harder for your body to metabolize so you get half-lives in the 12-24 hour range, which is great for stabilized blood-methadone-content but you also run the risk of overdosing much easier even by doing drugs the day after you've done methadone.

and I would be hesitant about the sub - you are looking for an easy way when there really isnt one. Even if you would invest the time necessary with methadone you would still have to address withdrawals at some time. One researcher stated that as long as she had been involved with therapies, it didnt seem to make much difference whether one was withdrawing from 30mg meth or 3mg - it was still tough.

My doctor informed me recently that it is high time I was taken off OxyContin in favour of something somewhat different, coupled with pretty much constant supervision from the local pain clinic. it`s very very hard and very dangerous. the program i went on with methadone was to get off oxycontin. i was on 300mg a day, and what they did was formulate a dose of methadone to match the oxycontin, and slowly took me off the methadone day by day. you cant go cold turkey off methadone. it`s approximately 3x the strength of methadone. so if you were on 40mg a day, you would need around 120mg of oxycontin a day to break even.

Since I had my son, I was prescribed percs.. I had those for about a month and moved onto methadones, to oxycontin.. Its been about four and a half months and I am ready to be done. I am curious to see how bad withdrawal will be. I have gone days here and there without using.. Only took 40 mg methadone a day, and if I didn't have that 80mg of Oxycontin... Has anyone gone through withdrawal after this short of time?

I do NOT take it all on the same days. I will take the oxycontin for several days then take the methadone a Day or two. I have been taking this dosage for about 2 years. I Have taken the oxycontin for two weeks then the methadone for two weeks. I never take them together on the same Day .....never. which one should I stop taking all together first??? I want off these pills. HELP!!

They most likely equaled your dose of oxy with methadone to make sure you not only transitioned more easily but that you would recieve enough pain support..or have you a bit of a lower dose(just guesses as I'm not your doc..or close to an MD). Have you had trouble breathing? Or is it just a fear your experiencing? If you feel your having trouble breathing I advice that you call your doc asap and have the dose lowered.
