Im not sure how long its been since your dose of suboxone, but it always took me about 1hr before I would feel its effects. I was on methadone before going to sub, tapered down from 140mgs-30mgs, then started at 8mgs/suboxone. Im not really sure how methadone compares to morphine milligram wise, but if it doesnt help then talk to your doctor about adjusting your dose. You cant expect to feel great, but it should hold off the w/d's and cravings.
wih shorter use suboxone is a little milder than methadone, but they honestly are both bad. I feel like methadone was a ebtter choice for me to get off opiates for good, but everyone is different and if suboxone works for you then stick with it. I was on sub for 8 months and it worked for a few but the cravigns started getting worse and worse and I eventually succumbed. I started a MMT program and feel much more prudctive and structured than being on suboxone.
I was on methadone for a year and now I am on suboxone. I had a lot of terrible side effects from methadone. Weight gain, terrible damage on my teeth, ect... and I have only been on suboxone for about 4 months. My docor tells me that if you wean down slow enough, there should be little to no withdrawals. I haven't experienced it myself yet. But I know for me, suboxone saved my life. There are no miracle cures for addiction, everything has side effects. My opinion is that suboxone is safer.
I am not allowed to say that I take methadone for pain relief. I can only say that pain relief is a side effect of methadone. Well this is fine and dandy until I started to travel for work. Clinic rules are strict and impossible to follow.
Today I have had 3 doctors offer to take over my care, but none of them are legally allowed to prescribe me methadone.
So I have 2 questions plz. How fast should I drop my methadone to reach my goal, b/c 5 every 2 weeks is taking too long. Second question is, what dose of methadone do I need to be at to make the switch, and how long cold turkey b4 making said switch? Any advice on either or both would be appreciated. Thank you all!
This last time I quit methadone I tapered down over about 7months to 30mgs then over to suboxone. I started at 8mgs which was enough to take away all withdrawals and cravings for the most part. I was on sub for 18wks, the last month of which I was under 1mg, last two wks was down to about .25mgs before I quit. The w/d's were fairly bad but looking back not nearly as bad as I had experienced in the past when coming off high dosages of methadone.
If you took some Methadone after taking Suboxone...that's why you feel so sick. Now that you've taken Suboxone, the Methadone will not work.
Never take opiates when you're taking Suboxone,okay?
No matter how hard I tried to taper, I struggled with completely coming off the methadone. It was only with suboxone that I was able to do that. Suboxone wd isnt fun, but it made methadone wd seem like candy.
Like the others have said above, he needs to see his prescribing doc to restart is oxy prescription safely. Methadone seems to really screw with your Mu receptors in a way far greater than other opiates, and can also change his tolerance.
Please try to taper off the oxys or get low enough and cold turkey (it will S*CK tremendously), you will hurt but it is actually easier than methadone or suboxone detox. Go to your doctor and make a plan to come off, he or she can give you some things like maybe clonidine, a mild muscle relaxer and an anti-inflammatory. Just please put some thought into trading one addiction for another. One that in my opinion, will put you in a worse situation.
Hello. I successfully transferred from methadone to suboxone and then quickly tapered off the suboxone over 3 and a half years ago. I did a methadone taper at home over the course of 6-7 months(?), reducing 5 mgs every week. Once I had lowered my methadone dose below 30mgs I checked into a residential medical detox facility.
I was required to go 48 hours without methadone before I was allowed my initial dose of suboxone which was titrated every 4 hours untill I felt no discomfort.
