Methadone vs dilaudid

Common Questions and Answers about Methadone vs dilaudid

methadose

Avatar f tn hydromorphone, however (dilaudid) is fairly short-acting and i would not consider it a substitute for methadone, which has a significantly longer half-life...you may want to consider switching to something like MS Contin or OxyContin (two long acting meds) and continue with your roxicodone for breakthrough...but again, all of these are risky if you combine them with a muscle relaxer/anti-anxiety like Xanax....only you and your doctor can determine if you can safely combine them.
Avatar m tn u r citing several different narcotics to stop a narcotic u r already on..some even stronger than the one u r on..dilaudid is not absorbed well orally...perhaos stop the IM injections and taper down fron the dilaudid slowly...morphine is another drug that is not absorbed well orally...dilaudid and morphine r usually an IV drug abusers choice vs a pill popper's choice..heroin is the street form of heroin...not a very sought after drug for oral use and neither is dilaudid...
Avatar n tn I am being switched from20mg of methadone per day(last 18mths) to 8mg of dilaudid per day, can anyoneadvise me on what w/drawl feelings I may get or how this will continue to manage my pain levels. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!!
Avatar m tn As I am almost 9 days clean on my first detox & WD, I can't answer your question other than to tell you that if you were finished detoxing from the methadone then the percs shouldn't be 1/4 as bad. Just my experience with norco/percs,roxycodone, vs. hearing other peoples stories about methadone DT & WD.
Avatar f tn methadone had longer, milder withdrawal, and dilaudid has shorter, more intense withdrawal. But the total pain is the same. A second thing, though, that pushes me to see you not having only 'physical dependence'... those people do not have near the trouble tapering the drug as do addicts. I have seen people merely physically dependent many times back when I was a pain clinic doctor; the people got sick and got angry, but they didn't have trouble stopping.
Avatar n tn 5gram aday herion habit and a 80 to 120mg a day dilaudid habit. and methadone is by far the hardest thing i have ever atempted to quit. now to the point, iwas hoping someone could give me a rough idea or timeline as to when ican exspect to start feeling better. i know thats a very openended question but this draging on much longer then exspected.
Avatar m tn This is the reason I am posting you because I would like some advice on the Methadone. I did research on methadone the other day on the methadone site, but I would like an opinion about taking this med. Any advice would be appreciated.
Avatar n tn My doctor decided to switch me from 2 10/325 norco 6x per day to one 8mg dilaudid 4 times per day. I am not sure how much stronger the dilaudid is from the dose or norco I was taking, and I do not understand those narcotic equivalancy calculators. Can someone with experience please help me understand how much stronger this medication is? The only other medication I take is xanax .5 twice daily.
11519729 tn?1419045607 Are there any CURRENT ongoing groups for those who are either now coming off methadone or have recently come off of methadone? I see several groups that are older (2008-2013), but can find nothing current. Help. I'm doing it cold turkey because that's what my PM doc decided was best for me.
Avatar f tn So, I'm here again and can't believe how stupid I've been. I traveled this road for almost 10 years, got clean for 7 years and relapsed for the past 3 months. Except now I have a 4 yr old daughter. Hate myself sumthin bad right now. Needed to tell someone. I want to WD but I'm afraid I'm not going to be able to work. I'm never going on methadone again that stuff is just as bad. Please tell me it won't be as bad this time.
Avatar n tn was taking up to 10 - 10mg (a day) of anything and everything I could get my hands on, i.e., vicodins, oxycotin, methadone, dilaudid, percs, etc. This habit was formed over the period of a year. The W/D's were horrendous, as many of you know. I couldn't function AT ALL for at least two weeks, even by a month out it was still pretty bad. Anyhow, within the last 6 months I relapsed and began taking oxy's and vicodin again.
407807 tn?1235060636 I recently went to my doctor and he has prescribed me dilaudid 2 mgs pills and plans to begin a taper. He also prescribed valium which I absolutely hate and havent taken .Is this a reasonable plan to get a person off subs??? He has shown me that he has experience with subs (bup) and detoxing patients and is confident this is the way to go but I have concerns and reservations after investigating this . Please Help me understand ???
1659111 tn?1302459251 hi, I was recently in the psych ward at some hospital and I admitted I was illegally taking dilaudid. I also told them I took some of my husbands methadone. Turns out they called his doctor and eliminated his perscription! Is this legal?
1549683 tn?1293990213 I am an IV dilaudid/heroin addict. At the peak of my addiction i was IVing up to 110 mgs of dilaudid a day (12mg at a time). I quit and went on the methadone program. I'm up to 120 mgs a day. People talk about opiates being a CNS and respitory depressant, but this stuff amps me up till i'm bouncing off the walls. My heart rate goes up about 10 bpm and i cannot sleep. I talk and talk and talk when i'm on this stuff. i become neurotic about things.
585134 tn?1218579114 i started with vicodin and after several years it progressed to oxycontin to finally dilaudid, 6 years ago i went into a methadone clinic and spent 5 years trying to get off of that and finally about 18 months ago i cut my dose from 100mg to 50mg and 2 weeks later down to 30mg and i quit. i went to a psychiatrist and she gave me some codeine to ease with the withdrawals and it was tough but i did it!
Avatar m tn yes, it *****. but nothing like methadone which is i swear cooked up in a devils lab. Dilaudid lasts about 7-10 days of physical withdrawls.
7857462 tn?1394795639 ll still be in a lot of pain as she has been slowly reducing the amount of dilaudid now and I have mobility pain and really bad leg pain at night. What I want to know is if there is a medication I can take in it's place for my pain and to ease withdrawal symptoms? I can't take methadone, had bad reaction to it years ago.
Avatar n tn But if taken too soon after using a full opiate agonist (heroin, fentanyl, methadone, Dilaudid, Norcos, Vicoden, Oxy, etc.,) Subutex itself CAN cause precipitated withdrawal because it will act as an antagonist. I can tell you this from my own experience, I have suffered through PWs and it was kind of like, instantly going from feeling normal to instantly feeling like Day #2 of full blown heroin withdrawals in 5 minutes and nothing but shooting an ass load of Dilaudid would help it.
Avatar n tn dilaudid is an extremey powerful drug-8x more potent than morphine and 3 to 4x more than heroin-Im 22 and have been on and off oxy, methadone, dilaudid, morphine, fentanyl, etc. and just about every other drug known since i was 17.....None of which were for pain.....STAY FAR, FAR AWAY if you can....made a mistke of doing dilaudid iv for the first pain killer i did and that was 05".....still fighting the battle.....it led to the worst drug addiction over the past four to five years....
Avatar m tn I've been on opiates since 07..mostly methadone..I went CT off it at 20mgs was very bad time.ok I was on 30 mgs of these perx 5 yrs now..my highest dose 40mgs..ok I tapered to 12mgs..ive been tapering 2.5 mgs every 7 days..I was thinking if I got to 5 mgs do it 14 days. Then drop off..i,m confused in what to do..
Avatar f tn m understanding right ur trying to taper down off methadone but ur getting so sick so ur using dilaudid in between ( then u started skipping methadone doses ) right? Mayb the taper is too fast? That could b y u are getting so sick? Tht is just my opinion I was never one methadone I'm on suboxone but my understanding is you should do a very very long slow taper on both meds. If I'm wrong I'm sorry I'm sure more ppl will b along to add to the great advise above.
1708849 tn?1308063972 I just read something about a methadone breakthrough comment from the methadone community. I took Dilaudid for my bad spinal tap and isn't that like morphine? That is not a breakthrough in my opinion; that is a bad drug to get on. I know it helps temporary but I was on morphine for 5 days and it stopped working eventually. I take oxycodone and tylenol 3 w/ codeine for pain but you people with chronic pain like me need to be careful with addiction.
Avatar n tn You physician is kind to provide you with medication but unfortunately lortabs and percocets cannot compare to the strength of dilaudid. Dilaudid is one of the Big Dogs. Long acting morphine or regular release morphine is stronger than what you are taking now and quite a bit less expensive than dilaudid. You may want to look into the actually cost. Fentanyl is very expensive so it probably would not be an option. Have you looked into state insurance?
