i take 300 mg a day for various pain. now, 3 times my urine has shown methadone in it. i have never taken any methadone. telling a meth clinic this and swearing on my life holds no water if you know what i mean. has this ever happened to anyone and if so what could cause this?

Your inquiry about methadone. I would rate methadone right up there as the worst withdrawal that I ever experienced. And that would be as oppossed to hydrocodone, codeine, morphine, heroin and a few others. The methadone wanted to stay around forever. Several weeks of standard physical w/d's and then months of mental things. Possibly up to a full year to get back in any kind of decent shape.

150mgs of methadone is 1950mgs of codeine. 150mgs of codeine is .8mgs of methadone. I tapered down to 160mgs of methadone in the end, I would take 600-800mgs of morphine to feel good enough. Don't underestimate methadone. 1mg would be enough for your dosage of codeine, according to one of the only equivalent charts that has not been removed from the web. CT from 150mgs of codeine is easier than 10mgs of methadone detox. My opinion, but lots of experience to back that up.

Also with methadone or you might want to look at suboxone, some people think this is easier to come off than methadone, you'll know exactly how much your taking and it'll be much easier to control rather than just popping pills away. Good luck.

Oh, okay. You have another 5 days or so for the codeine. It won't be As bad as methadone, but you will have to ride it out. Good food and time are all you need now. At least the methadone has has time to clear out, so now it's time to take lots of walks and wait for your body to balance out. Don't stress, you know what that does. You've worked so hard to get here. Just a little more time. You can do this.

Any suggestions on a med stronger than codeine, but not methadone, that will take away more of the pain, but still allow orgasms? Methadone will not help that. Likely you will become a Methadone addict and continue to seek other drugs when the Methadone only makes you feel normal, not high. You then end up with a double habit. I've done it. Methadone is extremely difficult to get off. Pleaase don't get on it.

Janie, I find it so hard to believe that anyone would suggest that you go on Methadone for Codeine abuse. Please understand that I am by no way suggesting that your addiction is that bad or anything like that but it would so sad to see you do this. I am not an advocate but if I were to recommend it, it would only be in the case of hard core Heroin addiction and even then I would be hard pressed to recommend it.

You can't get off of opiates by taking methadone. Methadone is an opiate..along with Suboxone (although a chemically different type of opiate). What is your drug history? What are you taking now and at what doses? Why do you think methadone is the best choice for you right now?

i broke my foot about 6 weeks ago. i am allergic to codeine and nothing the doctors prescribe works. ive lost more than 20 pounds and i think im getting a little depressed bc nothing helps my pain. i never sleep. please help me with medications to suggest to my doc bc im terrified. he wants to operate but i cant have any traditional pain meds after surgery....

Here in Ireland a huge scandal has blown up over the amount of men and women, many of whom are not even drinkers who have become addicted to over the counter pain meds which contain codeine. Despite these products now being regulated it's simple to buy them over the internet. The only reason methadone is recommended is to stop drug addicts from stealing, mugging etc to get money for their fix. The advice for a normal person like yourself is to stay away from methadone.

I am a wife of a drug addict. My husband was a user of codeine. I know that doesn't sound bad, but has been taking Vicodin and such for 20 years. He decided to get off codeine in October 2007.

She said that most places only help with heroine addiction which is usually a methadone clinic. However methadone can be used to help with all opiate addictions. I was just trying to reassure her that it can be a safe a very helpful use of treatment. I don't know where she lives so she would have to look for one in her area. I was able to taper to 10mg and then to 5mg then I used OTC codeine and diarrhea meds to taper from there. Eventually I took the codeine farther and father apart and one day I found myself SLEEPING IN totally drug free! It was such a good sleep. Now years later, after a bad accident I found myself addicted to pills and back in the US! I did get a few scripts for Hydros and Oxys but I knew I couldn't do that forever.

I take oxycodone and tylenol 3 w/ codeine for pain but you people with chronic pain like me need to be careful with addiction. So methadone is not a cure for RSD/CRPS, fibromyalgia period.
