t seem to go any lower on the methadone so they are switching me to buprenorphine and some oxicodone then slowly tapering me off. I am scared don't know what to expect. Will the withdrawals be as bad as the methadone?
why cant i stay off the methadone for 3 days and than get a script for buprenorphine generic .and start my treatment detox at home. i do have a gp doctor.and i think he can do the buprenorphine program.
s I know want you off methadone for 3 days OR when you are in kinda bad methadone w/drawals. That being said, on my 2nd day off methadone, (was on 32mg's) , I took a couple Vicodins because of the w/drawals. On the evening of day 3, I was tested for the amount of methadone still in my system. I only had a tiny bit, (also popped positive for opiates, but explained why), and was given my dose and felt fine in 1/2 hr. Actually, felt great.

Can anyone help me with some knowledge of this medication????? I have a relative who's suffered badly for years and tried every clinic and therapy and medication and nothing helped till now. He's lately been prescribed this buprenorphine and he swears it's just about given him his life back. My question is it a narcotic, therefore addictive. Does it have the nasty side effects of oxy or other pain meds.
maybe longer, and want to transfer to buprenorphine- simply as methadone is not lasting 24hrs before [mild but annoying] withdrawal feelings begin ..cut down now to just 30mgs- they say 25mgs is best to do the transfer..
Here, buprenorphine is used much more often than suboxone. Wish I'd quit years ago.

Eagle is correct, Cathy-- buprenorphine, Suboxone, and Subutex are all essentially identical. Buprenorphine has been around for 30 years; it used to be sold under the brand 'temgesic' in liquid form before being made as Suboxone, which is easier to dose. Buprenorphine is used for pain, mostly in Europe-- a skin patch in the UK called 'buTrans' releases 5-20 micrograms of bupe per hour through the skin.
Six years ago, in 2003, Suboxone became available in the US.
Suboxone contains the active medication buprenorphine. Then, after you have the baby you can address your addiction and get off the methadone.
